You really can't figure out why they would do this?
ESO has a big controversy because of their CE, so they don't do one to try and profit from that outrage.
It's clearly an exaggeration to call that controversy "big" when every retailer is sold out of copies of ESO's physical CE. Making decisions based on what loud minorities on forums get mad about usually isn't good business.
Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion, I gain strength. Through strength, I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains are broken. The Force shall free me.
They could just be assuming that digital distribution is going to so far outweigh physical distribution that it's not worth it to have the physical inventory and expense of collector's editions.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
No physical CE, okay I can understand that - dealing with supply chain adds a good amount of work and if you have a small team it might be best to give it a pass.
Digital CE shouldn't be a problem though, just make a couple of nifty looking hats and and a 10% xp boost item and profit.
Originally posted by CazNeerg AAA MMO launches pretty much categorically have them. ESO, for example, has it's physical Imperial Edition listed as out of stock at every online retailer.
Still doesn't matter, I would take a good game with no collectors edition over an average one that has one. And no, I am not saying Wildstar is a good game, I hold no themepark in that regard including TESO, the very idea of this topic is bogus and just an excuse to try to promote TESO.
Do it via gameplay if you think the game is better.

Your first link is to the PS4 edition, and the other two links are for the digital.

You are still wrong and still are trying really hard for some reason to try to make this game look bad. Don't you tell people in the TESO forums that they have no right to say anything negative, call them haters and tell them not to voice their opinions?

You keep providing links that don't say what you claim they say.
People can have whatever opinions they want. This thread wasn't supposed to be about which game is "better," it is about whether the failure to offer a real CE should/could be interpreted as a sign that a company lacks faith in it's product. I brought ESO into the equation to illustrate that the demand for physical CEs is clearly alive and well for popular products.

My links provide access to IN STORE PHYSICAL copies, the thing you stated all stores are sold out of. my first post was to links to the sites which you glibly pointed out was for digital only so I then provided links to where you can pick them up in stores so you then come back with online only is not available.
You are going in circles. You can place orders and still pick them up in stores. You are wrong and are going out of your way to run with an argument based on a lie. There being a CE or not means nothing in any context when it comes to the quality of a game.

You may think you linked to such a thing. I clicked on the links, they did not lead to that. The GamestopEBGames website explicitly states that the physical Imp edition can only be ordered online, and that it is sold out online. The Best Buy link you provide didn't even take me to anything about ESO.
And I didn't "glibly" point anything out, I just pointed out that your description of what the links went to was not consistent with what is actually shown by clicking on them.
And I never said it had anything to do with quality. I presented the theory that it might have a connection to the developer's confidence in launch window popularity.

I dont think lack of confidence has anything to do with it. Probably a business decision based on research. New IP without the exposure that a lot of other games have had.
The user and all related content has been deleted.
Somebody, somewhere has better skills as you have, more experience as you have, is smarter than you, has more friends as you do and can stay online longer. Just pray he's not out to get you.
"Deluxe generally equates to CE with only the digital items. A physical CE is much, much more expensive to produce (artbooks, alternate boxes, etc), and Carbine is a new, small team. They aren't coming into this with Blizzard level financial backing. Odds are there won't be a physical CE, just the Deluxe edition."

Sorry but saying Carbine is "small" or even "indie" is like saying the people behind Hearthstone are small and Indie. Carbine is owned and funded by NCSoft, one of the giants in MMOs and gaming. I don't think no CE is a sign that Carbine doesn't have faith in WildStar at all. But NCSoft on the other hand? Probably.
if you havent gotten a taste of beta for this game..uh the lack of a collectors ed is the least of your worries.. and no im not talking about bugs and incomplete items..you..you just have to see for yourself.
I bought the Aion Collector's Edition. That game turned out to be not so stellar and not very CE worthy. I bet that if it was being run by EA or SOE the plug would've been long pulled, and the lights turned off. I believe that the Collector's Edition is no longer necessary. The market for that is probably so small that they're not even bothering with it.

See for ourselves what? That you're trolling...because you have no explanation or anything for ....well anything. You're just generalizing in the most vaguest fashion possible.
On topic of the game's CE (and not the trolls who think there's a vague issue with the game), I don't see it as a problem. Sometimes they're a cost-lost for the developers/publishers when they're put with so many features; and as of late there's been far more made than sold (which removes the whole concept of "Collector" and certainly doesn't make it limited).
Eventually, hoping that after PAX goes well, they'll be selling the plushie Rowsdower from whatever online store they set up. This can be a way for fans to purchase individual physical items to express their liking of the IP without the publisher setting it all up in an all-in-one box.
I think collectors editions are silly, myself. Maybe they didn't feel like assembling the extra junk to rip off people with too much money? Collectors editions these days also almost always give some free in-game items to buyers and that basically equates to pay2win (extreme pay2win).
The goodies you get for the deluxe version don't seem worth an extra $15 to me, not even remotely close, but I'm glad they're not giving out a bunch of pay2win idiocy for a little extra cash.
...and glad no even more over the top idiocy exists as a collectors edition.
Plus. And sadly, there are several months before launch. You never know. They could come out with a collector's edition (and/or upgrade) before launch.
Premium MMORPGs do not feature built-in cheating via cash for gold pay 2 win. PLAY to win or don't play.
Simple business decision probably. CEs cost more - design and production of extras. And then they either have to arrange the shipping themselves or rely on retailers. And one of the reasons for CEs is for retailers displays.
Whilst Carbine want retailers to promote their game however they really, really want people to buy online. They will get two to three times what they would get via retail. (Pushing 70% instead of 20-25%).
So I don't think it is a case of low confidence more a case of being "realistic" and trying to get the most money they can.

I'm not sure either. A moderator from the WildStar forums may have put it best:
