I was in beta 6-7 months, played about 2 weeks worth....realized this game is on rails like no other game Ive played...sure you can do different things, but they are all hubs where, once again, you are on rails. If you like linear, this is perfect for you. If you like annoyingly goofy, this is for you. If the most exciting part of a game for you is the platform-esque parts....this is the game for you. It's just bad...
there, Im done...been dying to say this for a VERY long time
I agree, the questing was so boring and I found it much like WoW in many ways, like extremely fast leveling in battlegrounds compared to questing. I leveled so fast in the battlegrounds I abandoned questing altogether. It got boring and old fast, and yup it is on rails like every other themepark out there, sadly. I loved their promo videos from the start, and was hoping it would be a refreshingly new and innovative mmorpg, but I was sadly disappointed after being in beta for months and months.
The game is awesome, the questing is just like WoW with a jak and daxter feel to it since it plays out like a platformer too. Makes it a bit more interesting but let's face it, questing in ALL MMO's so far is a pain. It's just a means to an end. Playing a MMO to do quests might aswell shoot yourself in the foot.
Judging a MMO because its a quest hub after quest hub is being ignorant to the current state of the genre for many years. Might aswell hate all MMO's.
There's always ArcheAge around the corner which is a mystery how it will turn out in the west but at least it's coming and its a sandbox...sandparkish.
I like how you were urging just to let the world know you hate Wildstar, let it all go man, let it allllllll go, there there. Because WE CARE.

3 pages of negative responses and you're the first one to post anything positive. Doesn't bode well my friend.

Wildstar is a game tailored to the WOW crowd and those who like very typical themeparks. That isn't a bad or good thing - it just is what it is. It's not for me, but it's kind of silly to knock it for being a quest hub grinder because that's what all these style of themeparks are. Granted I don't feel it does a good job with questing, but still.

Don't worry, once the new game sheep are done devouring ESO's meagre paddock, they will jump the Wildstar fence and graze there until the next green pasture comes along.

I hope those people don't ever see EQNL on their radar because it's been a really fun game in alpha
Yeah if you are waiting for a game with an interesting levelling experience (via open world and questing) then you are in for a bad time with both upcoming releases.
Wildstar is traditional quests and ESO has possibly the worst quest writers known to man.
If you want a game that does instanced PvP and PvE well, then Wildstar is that game.
If you want a game that does GW2 WvW better than GW2, then ESO is that game.
If you want a meaningful and interesting levelling experience via the open world, then you'll need to wait for something else to come along, because they both suck at it.
Thankfully Wildstar hasn't nerfed the XP from everything else aside from questing, so you can jump straight into PvP at level 6 (basically as soon as you get off the noob ship) and then into adventures at 15 and dungeons at 20. I think you need to finish the first zone after you leave the ship, but then you are free to avoid the rest if quest hubs aren't your thing.
Yes, something like that.
I m waiting indeed for both ArcheAge and EQ Next, but until then I m up for Wildstar more than anything else.
I like PvE more. Dungeons / Raids / Public Quests etc attracts me more. I like graphics style also (i m not saying i don't like TESO graphics though) and for the first time i like this combat style more than the classic one (e.g.WoW). I like quality questing but tbh i dont care much anymore, after so many years and so many different mmo's. I got bored of them anyway.
For PvP i m happy with arenas, i always liked them, as i always liked BG's too. Warplots looks interesting though. I m not the kind of player who will zerg all day WvW etc or have as a priority the pvp.
Anyway i m happy with what i have seen so far by Wildstar. Its close to my tastes and i think it will give me some fun and quality moments, until ArcheAge or EQN or what ever else comes out. Then we will see what happens

It is 100% your fault if you look at your map and follow the numbers. You're missing out on a TON of stuff the map doesn't show you.
If your goal is to get to max level as fast as possible, of course the game will feel linear. It's shocking you played the beta for a supposed "6-7 months" and never figured out this simple fact.
3 pages of negative responses and you're the first one to post anything positive. Doesn't bode well my friend.

I personally want to play The Repopulation, only one that has my attention for the long term. All other games being released till then will only be fillers to kill time.

You have nothing to worry about. EQN:L continues down the road it's going. It will remain a special game for the 1k people playing right now.
Once the game is labeled a themepark, beta testing is irrelevant. Not saying that themepark MMOs are bad. But in this age and time, it's easy to find out what a game is about without even looking at the official site.
After following the game for about 2 years I was really looking forward to its release or a beta invite. Some months ago I received an invite and what can I say.. for me it's the worst MMO I've played so far. Every other MMO has something special to it.. something unique. For example SWTOR had incredibly good VO and story lines.. it wasn't a great MMO but I enjoyed that strength. Or GW2 had interesting quests and a neat combat system. WildStar has nothing to it. It's the same old grind. The action combat is fun at first but gets old very quickly. The classes are basically all the same.. no special builds which differ from other classes. A lore for 15 year olds and a very, very bad overall performance (20-25fps with lowest settings on a gtx770, 16gb ram, quadcore 4ghz system). The path system is a joke and the things I enjoyed were basically just minigames (like housing). Well.. dungeons are fine but too similiar to World of Warcraft. In my opinion it's definitely not worth the monthly fee.

I dont get this remark at all. I still play WOW but was looking forward to WS for a fresh new WOW-ish start. I was happy to get a weekend invite but I did NOT like it at all. Neither did my guildies who played that weekend. These are people that are not totally hung up on WOW and very willing to try new stuff.....

I'm guessing you say that because you can't gank low levels and destroy everyone's property you come across..

I tried Wildstar a beta weekend, played it over 30 hours, and went straight to pre-order it after I had a taste of the dungeons and the Battlegrounds in the game. The combat is just fun as heck, and I can't wait to get my hands on it, like I can't wait to get into the endgame raiding. I love the graphic style, the artistic choice, and the general look of the setting, including landscapes, character models, armours, etc etc. I'm not even playing the beta weekends I got for pre-ordering because I don't want to spoil myself and keep the game fresh for launch.
Ah, right. The levelling is quest hub based. I'm fine with that. To each their own.
The only other mmo's I see myself trying this year are EQN and Destiny. Maybe Star Citizen, but with ten tons of caution at the whole "indie is good" delusional motto that reigns over the internet these days.
My opinion is my own. I respect all other opinions and views equally, but keep in mind that my opinion will always be the best for me. That's why it's my opinion.
I, like many on this forum, found it to be a sub par WOW clone with a bit of fluff added together with spamfest PVP.
If you get chance to try before you buy then definitely do so. With all the hype me and the majority of my Guild were looking forward to this and having it as our main MMO, but after the BETA 90% decided that it was no longer for them. Even SWTOR had a better reaction and that had to be one of the worst MMO's I ever had the displeasure of playing. WS will go the same way.

Dude I disagree, I played the beta and yes it feels like a wow clone and the reason that you didn't like might be because it's a bad wow clone. For me it seems like they have taken everything that is bad with wow and put it in there game as their selling points.
I found this game to be horrible, it's like they havn't even tryied. Just goin past the first quest hub made me wanna puke. I hope they are doing lots of changes to this game before release cause I was kind of excited when I got the beta invite but I can honestly say that there is no way this game is gonna make it big.
I see this game F2P 6 months after release and I think it should be from start if they want any players at all.
Sorry for being so harsh but I really wanted to try this game and it was a big let down. Before ESO and WS beta I thought this was gonna be the big one of those two but I can honestly say that ESO will crush this game. I am not gonna play ESO either cause I didn't like it enough to pay sub but I can see the lore of that game and understand why ppl are gonna love.

Thing is. If you stop and take an objective look at both games, it becomes painfully obvious that WS shares the exact same core philosophy as WoW does. When you break down the games features it has far more in common with WoW than most other MMOs. And indeed, the game has far more in common with WoW than it has different. Perhaps the 1 key difference is the combat, which is little more than severely watered down version of GW2's (fully telegraphed). A combat system I did not think could get more simplified, but they managed to do so.
Indeed if I was to check the top 10, or even 15 streamers for WildStar, all of them are WoW fans. If I was to look through the post history of the most vocal defenders of WS, they've all played and enjoyed WoW. There a couple features the game borrows from other games, but that doesn't change what the game actually is. It's a MMO created by ex-WoW devs, for ex-WoW players. Sure it has some nice additional features thrown in, but it doesn't have the core design philosophy that made those same features good in other games.
Just like WoW, this game was made with 1 word in mind. Accessibility. It'll probably be a very popular game. But it doesn't really bring anything refreshing to the genre.
Originally posted by remyburke OP, I agree with you on both of your posts 100%. I won't be playing either of these games. What a sad state this genre is in.
