If you get chance to try before you buy then definitely do so. With all the hype me and the majority of my Guild were looking forward to this and having it as our main MMO, but after the BETA 90% decided that it was no longer for them. Even SWTOR had a better reaction and that had to be one of the worst MMO's I ever had the displeasure of playing. WS will go the same way.

I wasn't a fan of the telegraph system initially, and you do spend most of the time staring at color patterns and not your character, but its still good fun imo.
And yes the questing is boring, paths a bit dull, and the game linear, but because of the combat the dungeons and arena will more than make up for it.
So it's being compared to the most profitable MMORPG of all time. Sure sounds like Carbine's in for some tough times... (that was sarcasm).
Maybe a month out from release, these forums will be filled with people saying they've decided to give Wildstar a chance or about how they've changed their minds and Wildstar has really grown on them.
I am in same boat as OP. I have decided not to purchase either game. Sadly disappointing for both games. But there is still a silver lining for Sci-Fi. There are still a couple things in beta I am looking forward to.
The Repopulation - Although I'm not holding my breath for that one. When it does finally release, great! Until then, it's just something to keep an eye on as a future possibility.
And the other is the Anarchy Update Engine that has been almost a decade in the works. I'd still not believe it was happening if it wasn't for an old Org-mate I stayed in touch with who is actually in the Beta and is playing on it.
Glad I read this. I knew ESO was going to be not worth trying, never even bothered with the beta. Had hopes for Wildstar, but sounds like it washed out as well. Guess for the moment that only leave "The Repopulation" on my list of upcoming games to keep an eye on.
I've been in beta for months also. I think at the moment I'm more on the side of play Wildstar till EQNext or something new comes around. I enjoy the combat, the dungeons are decent, but the quest system is the most boring I've seen in a long time (on the level of questing in a Korean grinder). I'm not a fan of traditional quest hubs, but if you are going to do them at least try to make the quests interesting like WoW. Challenges break up the monotony a little bit, but for me it's going to be a rush to endgame through PvP and Dungeon grinding and ignoring quests entirely. The raids could be interesting, and I hope they are and intend to do 40 man raiding if possible. Housing is decent diversion from questing I suppose, especially with some of the fun challenges and expeditions you can add to them.
I can't really recommend Wildstar to anyone unless you only plan to focus on endgame raiding which has the possibility of being a lot of fun, especially with the combat system in place. PvP is okay, but there are serious imbalances right now that need to be worked out both on a class level and specific ability level. As with other games some abilities are just superior, for example with a Warrior tank there is no reason to take Support Power over Assault and use Support skills (other than Plasma Wall and Bolstering Strike) because Support Power adds mediocre damage instead of mitigation while Assault Power and Assault Skills adds much more damage and threat over Support Power. This means that EVERY Warrior, both tank and DPS will be forced into taking the Assault Builder and Power Strikes and both are the primary things you spam when playing a Warrior. Some of the abilities have really interesting functionality, especially with the Tier bonuses, but you won't see that in favor of the more efficient boring skills.
Originally posted by LisaFlexy22 Wildstar is a game tailored to the WOW crowd and those who like very typical themeparks. That isn't a bad or good thing - it just is what it is. It's not for me, but it's kind of silly to knock it for being a quest hub grinder because that's what all these style of themeparks are. Granted I don't feel it does a good job with questing, but still.
I dont get this remark at all. I still play WOW but was looking forward to WS for a fresh new WOW-ish start. I was happy to get a weekend invite but I did NOT like it at all. Neither did my guildies who played that weekend. These are people that are not totally hung up on WOW and very willing to try new stuff.....
So liking WOW =/= liking WS as I read a lot.
That's fine, there are always exceptions. But from what I've seen on this forum and many others in GENERAL it is the WOW crowd who go for this game. Hell they are advertising it as WOW 2.0 and a throwback to the "good ol' days" of Vanilla WOW so of course that's the market they are going to appeal to most.

I've had the same problem playing telegraphs instead of the game. My feeling of the game was "catch things within cones and rectangles and press a button". There was n 80's arcade title with the same gameplay.
Once i turned off my own telegraphs and lowered the transparency of the red ones it suddenly became a game.

I hated combat systems others than the classic WoW tab target.
Wildstar's combat is the first one that makes me feel i was playing something really dated. I m just finding WS combat simply excellent. The best combat i have ever experienced.
You also have many options to make yours or others telegraphs to show as you want or even disable them.
This was known to be a theme park from the beginning and it was aimed to the people who loved WoW back in the days, and also to the ones who like THEME PARK MMOS ( please, read that caps line with all your heart).
Also, how can someone say that this game is liner is beyond me. I found quests ( not all ) , to be kinda excited in some way or another. The combat is excellent from my point of view. Is not the WoW combat where you stand-still ( shut up ) and spam 1-2-3-6-7-8. Is very engaging and you really need to SKILL ( yes I know, most of you are used to just spam 1-2-3 , no move, no strategy ) to actually play the game like it meant to be.
The PvP from my point of view, is and it will be, one of the biggest selling point of Wildstar. Is fun, is fast , is strategic, is dramatic.
Dungeons? Oh my . I love them. When I first entered in Stormtalon Lair Dungeon for the first time with a full party, we stayed 1 hour to actually kill several mobs, because we didn't know how to react to mobs skills ( and also we had a pretty bad tank ). Finally we managed to get to the first boss. Of course, we wiped out several times, and no .. we did not killed him. Reasons? Lack of knowledge in terms of healing, tanking and strategy ( and better items I guess ). But that's not bad, that's actually excellent. It makes Dungeons actually hard and engaging and not your typical tank and hit kind of dungeons seen in other games.
I feel bad for you ( The ones who stayed 1 YEAR or SEVERAL months in Beta. Yea, go figure it out ), and didn't liked the game in the end. Also I feel bad for Carbine for inviting people like you who were not going to actually test the game and provide necessary feedback.
You don't like the game? Fine, move along. Why people need to continue bash a game they don't like is beyond me. I played few hours ESO in one of the weekend Beta. I did not liked the game, but you don't see me going to their forums and start none-sens topics about how &@&!(@* is that game and why I don't like it.
Grow up please.
And no , don't you tell me that I don't have the rights to defend this game or I don't have the right to counter your "experience in Wildstar" , or that is your opinion and I should deal with it . Yes, I deal with it by also saying my point of view. You come here and bash it, I defend it. Simple as that. Don't like it? Stop posting and play whatever game you want. I will also stop posting and going to play whatever games I like.
Reporter: What's behind Blizzard success, and how do you make your gamers happy? Blizzard Boss: Making gamers happy is not my concern, making money.. yes!

I have to comment on these excerpts.
1.) WildStar is indeed pretty linear. You have zone after zone after zone with an increasing Mob level. There is no room for real exploration or questing the way you want. The only decision you can make is whether you're doing quest "A" before quest "B" or quest "B" before quest "A" when they're both side by side in a certain area.
2.) PVP is kinda fun but definitely not very strategic. For the most part it's a big clusterfuck (not very surprising when basically all spells are AOE). The areas are too small to play with a specific strategy. Walatiki Temple is a zergfest with 1-2 players trying to steal the enemy flag. Wow.. so much strategy! Halls of the Bloodsworn has the same problem with its middle plattform. It's too rewarding to hold the circular field. So everybody goes for that.. again with 1-2 exceptions.
3.) Who said we actually didn't test the game and provide feedback? Dude.. I made it to lvl 50 although I knew that WildStar isn't my cup of tea at the end of the day. And I did send a lot of bug reports.. trust me! It has been a beta.. so I didn't give my hopes up for some major changes. But now I'm sure they won't come and that's why I'm coming here to report (...which leads me to 4.).
4.) "You don't like the game, move along." Well.. WildStar hadn't any open beta and already started to allow pre-orders. A forum section like this is important.. to share an opinion for players who couldn't get into the beta up to now. Personally I hate pre-ordering games which I couldn't test myself and I know there will be many people who are pre-ordering blindly (*choochoo* hypetrain). So what's the problem to warn at least some of them?
5.) "Grow up please" Thank you very much - I already did.
I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised with the value being offered via WildStar. I have not played it in at least year (18m?), and am very glad to see how much it has progressed. I can honestly say that I feel that it is worth subbing for a few months.
P2P Sub based games revolve around selling you content. They need to occupy your time (that is what you are paying for) in an enjoyable manner. Wildstar does this pretty well. There are places to go, things to do, and many ways to pass the time enjoyably. What more can you ask for from a sub?
I am still concerned that the end game will not work well as P2P. I also have to say that the PvP just doesnt work as well as TES (comparable game coming out at the same time). As a themepark, it is fun. However, once the content runs out/gets old, it will be time to move on.
I still expect this game to convert to F2P, but now I feel that it will sustain fairly well as P2P, based on the content. It should be able to last a year before converting, it may convert faster if they hit heavy competition, or decide to be more agressive in the monetization.
...Alas, I couldn't find anything from this game. People want to bash ESO, well at least ESO has depth, has a story, it may not be perfect, heck far from it, but it is far superior to Wildstar.
To each their own. I played a few weekends in each game. I really wanted to like ESO. I was a huge fan of DAOC and hoped the pvp would remind of that game. Sadly, the combat was extremely clunky and ran into way too many bugs to be this close to release. The first weekend I got stuck on orc island with 100+ other people standing around because the main storyline quest was bugged and we couldn't progress.
As for Wildstar, the combat was way more responsive, I ran into less bugs, and I enjoyed the quirky characters. ESO does have a more indepth and better storyline. However, if I wanted clunky combat and a great story I'd just go back to playing TSW.
Yeah if you are waiting for a game with an interesting levelling experience (via open world and questing) then you are in for a bad time with both upcoming releases.
Wildstar is traditional quests and ESO has possibly the worst quest writers known to man.
If you want a game that does instanced PvP and PvE well, then Wildstar is that game.
If you want a game that does GW2 WvW better than GW2, then ESO is that game.
If you want a meaningful and interesting levelling experience via the open world, then you'll need to wait for something else to come along, because they both suck at it.
Thankfully Wildstar hasn't nerfed the XP from everything else aside from questing, so you can jump straight into PvP at level 6 (basically as soon as you get off the noob ship) and then into adventures at 15 and dungeons at 20. I think you need to finish the first zone after you leave the ship, but then you are free to avoid the rest if quest hubs aren't your thing.
I agree with this post. Good to see that WS hasn't destroyed exp for everything but questing like TESO has. I won't be playing either as they are the same linear no freedom crap I've been playing for the last 9 years. Possible hope for TESO PVP but I'm not sure I want to pay a premium price for PvP with very little to no risk vs reward.
there is something missing when you play wildstar.
but they say that WOW vanilla was not good and the game became good so I think at least wildstar has a good base to build on.
I will only buy when I run out of options, not good enough for full price and full sub.price
WoW wouldn't succeed in today's market, though. It had problems at launch, but mostly due to demand rather than design. Blizzard entered a market with a largely unknown IP (aside from people who actually played RTS games) where the reigning champion was sporting something like 250k subs. Blizzard wasn't prepared for the millions they got in the first few months, but it worked out because no other options were as good.
Wildstar is basically Rift 2.0. Everything looks good on paper, but it fails to innovate in any meaningful way.

Uhm.... what viable method of lvling does Wildstar even have besides questing & PvP? Because, as much as you kids love to hate all things non-WildStar, that's hardly something that sets the game apart. Heck, even ESO has decent lvling in PvP. Even though it's most done via bounties / pvp quests.
Played for a while in early beta. Just could not get into the combat at all....especially after playing Firefall (a game with huge potential if Red 5 would ever get it together). The combat system at the time was just awful. I should not have to shoot at my target for 30 seconds to kill it....ever. I think they improved it, but not sure as I never went back (and I am still playing Firefall even after the horrible .8 milestone update).
My wife and I got keys to closed beta and played for months. She liked it and wanted to play every day. I will tell you all (and would never let her know) it is the only game I ever played that made me angry every single time I logged in. Maybe it was because I wanted the game to be my next MMO and was so let down. I was really convinced it was for me. Man was I wrong.
I guess she never know how much I love her. I ate all that anger while I played Wildstar and just focused on spending time with her enjoying the fact that she was happy and that was good enough for me.

Dungeon and adventures so stop lol and you could lvl (all the way at a even pace to 50) doing pvp unlike in eso where all exp is focus on Questing and everywhere eles it is crap,so don't even act lol and how are you going to say us wildstar people hate,as of right now you really cant post anything negative in the eso threads because you get flamed really hard ,so goodbye lol.

already has a choice where can can play for free
i have found wildstar so be the only mmo coming out to offer so much (esp at endgame) i have no doubt that it has way more play time than ESfail tbh just its housing i would say has more content than that heap .
i found eso combat to be a more clunky version of gw2 dodging as well as the tab targeting.just down right subpar tbh

However, if I wanted clunky combat and a great story I'd just go back to playing TSW.
there is something missing when you play wildstar.
but they say that WOW vanilla was not good and the game became good so I think at least wildstar has a good base to build on.
I will only buy when I run out of options, not good enough for full price and full sub.price
+1
WoW wouldn't succeed in today's market, though. It had problems at launch, but mostly due to demand rather than design. Blizzard entered a market with a largely unknown IP (aside from people who actually played RTS games) where the reigning champion was sporting something like 250k subs. Blizzard wasn't prepared for the millions they got in the first few months, but it worked out because no other options were as good.
Wildstar is basically Rift 2.0. Everything looks good on paper, but it fails to innovate in any meaningful way.
You make me like charity
Uhm.... what viable method of lvling does Wildstar even have besides questing & PvP? Because, as much as you kids love to hate all things non-WildStar, that's hardly something that sets the game apart. Heck, even ESO has decent lvling in PvP. Even though it's most done via bounties / pvp quests.
Witty & Wicked
already has a choice where can can play for free
i have found wildstar so be the only mmo coming out to offer so much (esp at endgame) i have no doubt that it has way more play time than ESfail tbh just its housing i would say has more content than that heap .
i found eso combat to be a more clunky version of gw2 dodging as well as the tab targeting.just down right subpar tbh
