It is, nonetheless, the exception. My enthusiasm for The Elder Scrolls Online's competitive side doesn't stack up against the time I have spent feeling drained by drab questing or restricted by a world ensconced in fog. This is an MMORPG of moderate scope with a few good ideas and the resources invested in it seem sufficient to expect new dungeons, daily quests and armour sets to collect at a decent clip for the next couple of months. If you're tired of your current fantasy haunt and looking for somewhere to transfer your guild, this game may suit you for a time. For everyone else, though, I'd advise caution. There's no game that I'd be happy recommending on the basis that it's at best 'okay' for thirty-plus hours. 'Okay' isn't good enough when you're facing down this much of a premium, and I can't imagine paying a monthly fee to visit somewhere I've been many times before.

I mean PC Gamer isn't the biggest name out there, but I'm surprised they weren't paid to give a better review...
I know I'm cynical, but usually that happens a lot with games and ESO seems to be doing a lot to push that in places.
I mean either way a 68/100 isn't a "No its terrible" mark either, it does emphasize (for that reviewer) that the game has some going for it, though its got flaws... then again I think every score starts off with a minimum score of 40 on those reviews with lower scores only being to emphasize games that are god awful that didn't bother try faking their scores. XD
Looks like this game has more haters than allies then.
What does this tell you ah?
So true. Of course, if they had given the game a 100/100, the haters would be on here complaining it was a payed review or that the reviewer is an idiot. Funny how both the fanbois and haters are different sides of the same coin...

That some people will take on review and a couple of negative posts and conclude that means the game is doomed...

funny is the most "haters" you guys like to call beta tested the game, what that tell you?
ESO does have an abnormal amount of hating going on. I've been around a long time and I don't recall seeing this level of hate.
IS there a need to focus on haters or something here, the only people I see mentioning haters is you and Vol. The subject is the review why not get back to it?

Okay well, point by point.
The reviewer doesn't like the voice acting, but imo it's some of the best voice acting in an MMO . . . ever, if someone has a list of MMOs with better voice overs, please feel free to post it.
He doesn't like the visuals.
He clearly wants another single player ES game and doesn't like when there are too many players playing near him (well, say hi to MMOs?).
He likes the combat. And apparently doesn't find it "floaty" as so many people claim it to be, but finds it quite impactful.
Likes PvP, but doesn't like that the side with more people wins.
And those are his points. So he gives it a 68/100 based on those.
That a lot of people have unrealistic expectations and expected it to be just like Skyrim with a the mods but better, and when they found out they couldn't gank all the merchants and quests givers because its a MMO their bubble burst. Seriously I say a beta tester here a month ago complaining because all the merchants were not killable like in Skyrim
Not just in games but some people in life are never happy unless they can make everyone else just as unhappy and miserable as they are. If you say its a nice bright day they will complain the sun hurts their eyes. Basically some people will always complain no matter what and are never happy.
How quickly we forget SWTOR, Conan, WAR, et al....

I can't really disagree with your assessment:) and AT least it's more interesting than haters this haters that :)P. I do have to say I found the combat floaty though

Not at all. Just pointing out the absurdity of both camps that are prevalent on this web site. Sorry that somehow offends you. I have no issue with the review or his score. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.... but I won't apologize for being entertained by the oh so sweet ironies and contradictions from the same "regular" posters on this web site...

Frankly I'm at a loss as to this unrealistic expectation remark about Skyrim fans who were expecting an online version of Skyrim. Isn't this game banking on them in fact much of knotwood's crazy predictions is relying heavily on the single player base being converted . How can the game not market to this single player base and then not thoroughly cater to them ,it would have to meet some of their expectations be they unrealistic or otherwise and if they are being disappointed wouldn't that be cause for concern. So why should you then criticize the very crowd you want playing this game by calling them unrealistic. If anything this player base is vital and should be coddled for the game to sell more and retain subs.
Quite frankly GW 2 was numero uno in the hate meter here and ESO has not even touched that level that GW2 inspired.
Haha, so true indeed. If IGN gives it 8 or 9 out 10, they sold out. But honeslty, many AAA games have bought reviews for positive press. It's really no secret.
Personally, i'm actualy shocked. Metacritic rating is already 7.8. I was really expecting big name sites and mags to give atleast 8 out of 10. But meh, whatever. Personally, the only one i trust in terms of impressions is myself.
SWTOR actually got a better review from PC gamer ^^

I stayed away from ESO because of the cost and the game felt mediocre that does'nt make me a hater just careful where I spend my money and time.
I've got to agree with the review really. It's a solid experience and it works but it's lacking personal goals. I was loving this for awhile, even made a few addons and patches for it, and then, suddenly, I had the urge to reinstall Rift after not playing it for over a year. Now, I want to log into Rift instead of ESO.. it's pushed me back to other MMOs.. probably because they have a lot more activities to do in them. The disappointing dynamic events in ESO are the main reason it hasn't hooked me. Not to mention Rift is probably the best FTP model out there.. I spend money in the store because I 'want' to.. not because I have to. Subs are definitely on the way out if they can't deliver on the content and activities that other free games provide..
So, do I recommend ESO? No, it costs too much for what's on offer. Wait a bit and see what it becomes later on.
Ok, i do not agree to all the points being raised as negatives in the review and i also think that the author missed some of the strong points of the game.
I do however wonder why he also missed some of the blatant flaws that game has at this point and think with 68/100 it got away generously.
6/10 on my scale, with a tendecy to go further down if you also want to bring up the "how much actual Elder Scrolls does Zenimax deliver with ESO?" subject.
When im online reading global chat's whole day long, I do not experience much hate or flammers. Seems haters are sitting just on websites / forums. Or the haters are to lazy to write in global chats:p
I wasn't talking about what you said, you simply responded to what caused the derail to begin with, there's no foul in that IMO. I agree with your point as well.

Amazing. I well known publication rates TESO above average, but not stellar and everyone thinks the reviewer is a Hater..
That is just funny.
