Wow is that true? I played/paid lots in PS1. But, finally tried PS2 a few months ago. In short, I felt that the environment overshadowed the players. Players were hard to see, but environmental geometry/texture was everywhere. Contrast to PS1 where the terrain, while pleasant enough, took a back seat to the people in it. I didn't enjoy PS2 at all.

I wish SOE well, but I personally think they've squandered good will in favor of the new shiny. They tried hard to ignore the fact that old EQ still had massive popularity. Rather than hire new people to explore that revenue stream, they instead focused on the next best (or not) thing.

Luckily, i don't need you to like me to enjoy video games. -nariusseldon.
In F2P I think it's more a case of the game's trying to play the player's. -laserit

Frankly, if that's the case why not root for the zombies to put this miserable self-destructive species to an end?

+1 I agree.  I love pvp in fighting games and smite, but pvp in this game will just be a lame gankfest.  The interesting thing will be how the pve matches up.

guns are super rare as stated.

In a response to all the negativity about how this will be a deathmatch... I feel the need to point out giga1000's post.  They already stated that guns will be extremely rare.... they could be lying, but assuming they arn't I don't see how this will be a shoot em up.

But this is an MMO....rare just means people will have to try harder.  Let's be real here.  Guns will be extremely common after things start up, and EVERYONE who is competitive will have one.

You mean they abandoned the games that were abandoned by the players?  Huh... funny how that works.  Imagine a world where product sales don't have to meet a quota to be profitable.

Vanguard was killed off by SoE. They didn't update a single thing, they had 2 developers working on the MMO.

People still believe that? i played Vanguard till the day it was shut down and if it wasn't for SOE i wouldn't even get those few years to play it. Vanguard would have been dead long time ago when Microsoft pulled out its support.

+1 Get real.  Vanguard survived as long as it did because Smed decided to help Brad out a little bit, after Brad had dug his own grave with his "vision."

I found a game that as an SWG fan, has encouraged me to get into it. It's called The Repopulation. It's the closest to SWG I have seen in a long time. It feels like a mix of SWG, UO, Entropia Universe ( EU because some of the mobs and terrain among other things).

I feel it's definately worth checking out if you liked SWG, UO, or EU.

On top of how rare the guns have been stated to be I also feel that having you character locked to a server which kills server hoping to hide your douchebagery.  Also as there will be nameplates so you would think the amount of people running around killing everyone would die down once they were pretty well known around the server as being that way and people grouped up and formed guilds to stop it. But if the server you are on doesn't work that out you could always just create a character on a PVE server or find a PVP server where the guilds have banded together and started a kill on sight list for all the murderers. I feel that has a much better chance of happening in the games with no server hoping, nameplates, and guilds. Time will tell.

Go look up Smed's recent statement about them changing the payment model for PS2 and how it is not a "scam". His statement about PS2 not making any money is in there.

I read the statement but don't care enough to go look it up for you.

And here's a news flash for you: well funded, successful companies do not cancel projects left and right (especially ones that are well into production, like The Agency) if things are going well. Or shut down existing efforts.

And this is on top of years of layoffs.

At some point, poorly run companies just aren't viable anymore.

I guess necromancy on a thread about a game that is about zombies is ok.

I can't find anything like that. Actually, I found the contrary. Using this list of top MMO Games based on average spend per user, it looks like PS2, is actually still managing to get money from people's wallets. It just squeaks into the top 50 games on Steam, but doubles the number of users that play Rift on Steam. So I'm not sure what that means, other than the population isn't horrible and other games are obviously surviving on less money. Plus they're just rolling it out onto console which will only increase the number of players and also make a push for the All Access program, possibly.

" 7 Days to Die" on steam, really close to what you want, the graphics on the characters needs some care, but its a fairly good survival game (still a work in progress)

So you have already make your decision on an EARLY RELEASE game that has yet to even opened its doors on that access?

I don't even know what to say.

Frankly it does make sense. I can totally see humans killing eachother to steal resources in a world where surviving another day is your biggest goal.

When SOE said they had something coming that the SWG fans would love, this is the game they were referring to?

    Wow, was I wrong.

This is just a DayZ wanna-be.  Just a stupid open world PvP gank fest, with no true survival game mechanics and where zombies rate below mosquitos in term of threat.

I see what's coming:  I spawn as a new survivor.  I take a foot step.  BAM!  I've been hit by a sniper 2.5 miles away - perfect shot, middle of my forehead.  Just for good measure, the bullet  does fusion & fission damage over time.  The sniper is wearing camo'ed, obsidian, titanium, head-to-foot armor.  And just to make the whole experience suck even more, this sniper (and his buddies) have managed to get this weaponry and armor, even though the game's only be available to everyone for 2 days.

    -----------

I want The Walking Dead MMO.

I want a game where a great day is finding a can opener that works.

I want a game where an aluminum bat is worth 100x an assault rifle, because a bat kills silently and doesn't get stuck in a zombie's head.  Fire a gun and you get 1,000 zombies on you in minutes.

I want a game where I can take a hacksaw, a foot-long piece of PVC pipe, duct tape, and from that update the forearm part of a leather coat to make it bite-proof.

I want a game that recognizes that if I hole-up in a two-story house and have de-constructed the staircase to the 2nd floor, that I am pretty safe from zombies and can rest a bit.

I want a game where all the clothing is torn, ripped, and stained.  Where all men have beards and everyone's hair is long and stringy.

I want to see lots of burned out and breaking-down buildings.  I want to come upon a stream and wonder if the water is safe to drink - did they shut down the nearby nuclear plant in time?

    --------------------------------

It looks like I will keep waiting for that game.  It doesn't seem like SOE's H1DayZ1 is it.

    Sigh.

Too bad you havn't played the game yet nor watched or reviewed some Dev streams/info or this thread would not exist.
