ESO is just that good :)
But they also are in for a world of hurt soon.

Free month is up and there are tons and tons of bugs / downtimes / class passives not working / dupes / etc etc etc
They should never have said "ESO will have the smoothest launch in history" as they are now falling down the mountain with the speed of light.

I love every minute i play, but this week alone EU had 5 server downtimes lasting around 4 hours avarage and 3 of them in EU prime time.

I couolnt care less about duping as this game doesnt have an economy anyway.
Nothing is soulbound so you can trade your stuff to anyone when your done with it.

But not being able to play for 20 hours this week is asking for trouble and many angry people.

Still ESO is one hell of an mmo tough.

Agree with your points but there is a bigger one. Considering a mmo good or bad its up to everyones tastes, but bugs / bots / downtimes / class passives not working / dupes / billing problems / EU server still on US (yes, i know it will be placed on EU "soon")  etc etc etc are not :)

I would definatly keep playing, I've only begun to scratch the surface of this game still.   Why would I want to go to another game with crapy RPG and crapy storylines instead?    Just start over just like beta,  atleast I got a monkey to show for that wipe!

Aren't you one of the guys who said he got banned for duping and then let back in to the game?

lol...yeah why would you switch games when you are able to dupe your way to the top in this game with total impunity?

  • RusqueRusque Member RarePosts: 2,785

Yes I would keep playing, no this game doesn't need a wipe.

Also duping just doesn't get people that far ahead, because it's not that type of game. Artifact gear is easy to get, legendary gear isn't much harder and the gaps between tiers is not that high.

Or let's say they have lots and lots of gold. Again, no impact because there's no global AH (and this is why that's a good thing - can't ruin an entire economy when you can't influence it) and having lots of gold means .  . . what? That you can upgrade your bank slots and buy a horse? lol

I do wish the dupers were banned, simply for their actions. But as far as the game goes, it's just not structured in a way that greatly benefits people who dupe.

why would one answer a hypothetical question ..has no meaning ..has not and will not happen..some people act like bad things never happen to new mmorpgs upon release..dont like it go do something else..

If the economic is that much damaged with the duping and a rollback would not invovle the reset of the achieved character level, I would appreciate it.

Its all about the econmic, if it is already harmed too much with exploits there needs to be done something.

But I would not like to see that characters achieved levels would be wiped....thats too much invested time already with questing.

Would quit and get a refund. They won't wipe servers though.

I love the game...but if they were to wipe...I'd be gone.

That's a pretty low blow.   But it should tell you how good this game is, when innocent people get the ban hammer and keep on playing despite being wrongfully caught up.   They did issue an apology to people like me and they did fix the issue after finding out innocent people got banned.    That's what really matters is in the end they always do the right thing, even if their communication on it sucks.

Actually in my opinion a server wipe would be a good idea, once they get all the issues fixed. It would allow everybody to start again on the same footing..And completelly destroy all things including money obtained through cheating and exploits. I would not mind it a bit..

May I ask which MMO's you had this happen in? I've never had an MMO do a complete wipe. Sure I've lost hours, but not everything. If you look at my list of played games, none of those games have ever done a complete wipe... thats quite the list I may add.

As for the OP... I would quit. No questions or regrets. Had my fun, not willing to do it all over again though. Thats why no MMO's do complete wipes too. Too many people with that mind set. Especially the new age crowd.

*edit, back to 7imelord, none of the games on your list have ever had a complete wipe ever either... so I am genuinely curious.

I forgive alot for new mmo's, but rollbacks aint one of em. So if there were a server wipe, it would be bye bye.

I use to lose a lot more in UO when it was new. Just small resets... but annoying as hell!

So far in this game the only thing I've lost is about 60ore. That could of easily been something more important.

Epics are no big deal to me in this game as user crafted items are better anyway. Heck, nearly all the armour I am wearing was crafted by myself.

Also, never heard of an MMO have a total wipe... its an interesting theoretical question for some, but throughout the years I've seen newbies threaten it and not understand it constantly.

I don't think I would go back after one of those.  I don't think it's even on the table as a option for Zenimax to do it either.  They would be more likely to just increase the level cap and make all the gear/mats we currently have worthless at max level than they would be to wipe the servers.  Do something like make a whole different set of mats for upgrading the new tier of gear and making enchantments.

All that of course assumes it's impossible for them to track down and remove all the dupped gear.  Which given what they did with my bank slot's i'm starting to think might be the case.  They told me they couldn't determine what was lost on my account so gave me a bunch of gold to replace it instead.  I'm not unhappy with the outcome because I probably came out a bit ahead on the deal but still it's kind of telling that they are having such a hard time sorting out these things.

Just to preface, I don't play this game and probably never will.

I remember when duping happened in Diablo 3.  They banned the offending accounts and confiscated the dirty money instead of wiping everyone.  I'm pretty sure near launch Diablo 3 had more players than ESO.  If Blizzard had the resources to conduct an investigation to find the offenders, I'm sure ZOS can do the same with this game.  If they don't, then they're either lazy or poorly run.

With that said, I don't think I would continue to support a company that had to perform a wipe on a retail product.  If it were beta, then sure, but my confidence in your product is lost after I've put money into it and have lost everything.

  • madazzmadazz Member RarePosts: 2,115
They have already banned many accounts that duped. They have even issued a statement about it. In that statement they even go further an apologize that some accounts that were banned may be innocent and they will review and re-open those accounts. Some of the people improperly banned have already been granted access again and also been given free time (I think like 1 day) lol.

A full wipe isn't really reasonable in this case since there are a number of easier solutions.

i mean the easiest fix would be to alter existing recipes, add in new recipe components, and new recipes ingeneral to diminish the value of duped goods then let the market work itself out. the economy is still in its new phase and should be able to adapt fairly well to the duping problem.

The mod edit is wrong then...  The fact you left "will" you keep playing in suggests it will happen while being at odds with the hypothetical at the beginning.

Correct title would be "Hypothetical Complete Server Wipe - "Would" you keep playing?

    You can owe me...

I remember Ultima Online had a duping problem with a specific robe in fact. After fixing the dupe they turned every illegitimate robe into a monks robe of shame or something haha. Was quite hilarious at the time.

Quite happy to continue playing, but then some of us do not see a MMO as a race to top level.
  • jesadjesad Member UncommonPosts: 882

I would keep playing.  I am all for a relaunch though because there are a couple of things that they did that I don't think were that good for the game overall.

    1. Allowing other players to research off of a players already researched goods without permission.  (Completely takes advantage of the person who had to get that initial drop and lends to powerleveling without restriction and also made that duping bug that much worse.)

    2. Cross faction guilds (Coupled with number one makes spying way too powerful).

    3. Need harder boss mobs so that bots can't just sit on them farming ornates all day like they are doing.

    4. Guesting and leaving servers. (A. it's akin to desertion in the case of leaving and B. it's just dumb to let a superior force just go wherever it wants.  A campaign should be a campaign till it ends.)
