Not the best analogy, but you get the point.
Fortunatly, from what i gathered, there actually isn't even much creep in ESO. When i asked this, it seemed the jump from VR0 to VR10 wasn't even that noticeable. Not enough to 1-2 shot you atleast.
So i imagine VR12 won't have much advantage. Could be wrong though. Really hope not. Seriously, power creep in pvp game modes is just plain idiotic.
This is completely and utterly wrong. Between vr1 and vr10 not only do your stat caps all increase by 25%, the armor and weapon damage starts climbing extremely fast as well. The top end damage you will see on a bow at vr1 is about 105 for a purple. At vr10, bow damage on a purple tops neatly 150. That's almost a 50% increase in effectiveness of gear. I say this as a vr6, a vr10 is noticeably harder to kill than a vr1.
Hm, not looking good. How much health does vr10 have compared to a vr1? It's weird because i did see a video of a guy take on a level 50 vr? when level 26.
But a general stats graph would be welcomed for better comparison. Not that i don't trust your quote, just that a general info graph'd be nice.
1-50 = 500 stat points
vr1-vr10 = 300 stat points+gear difference+stat cap increase

Sure, you can take on a VR10 as a level 26 but chances are, unless the VR10 is run by somebody with a severe disability you are going to get creamed. If you notice in the patch notes, released last Friday for 1.1, they are actually making it so you can take your character's base stats over the "rounded" stats you get from Cyrodiil.
Currently if your stats are over a certain number, Cyrodiil will actually bring your stats down when you zone in (your stats are artificially raised if you zone in below level 50 but they are artificially lowered if you pass a certain point). After the patch, high VR players are going to be even harder to kill and they will be dealing even more damage. Of course, being mid VR myself I can't say that I dislike this change but I think it will be a rude awakening for a lot of people.
Depens how you see advantage. If you builded up your set very well you mostly get a few statpoints into a cap. THIS CAP IS A HUGE NERF. For example my magical ressist with v1= 1700 almost at cap and my armor with medium armor is at 1500, same for my stamina which is at 1950 with buff food.
Now the thing asked a few v10 about their caps, stamina 1950 aswell, magical ressist same or less since I focused my rings on it.their armor was like 1900 (heavy armor), it is capped on 1800. So their advantage is "100" armor, since you can get like 1800 with heavy armor on v1 aswell.
The only advantage I see, is the weapon dmg, I could not see a weapon damage cap yet and v10 weapons are simply much stronger then v1 weapons.
In my opinion the hardcaps, nerf the v10 stuff alot. Currently the only thing which is really overpowered in cyrondill are some player builds which are simply broken and will get nerfed.
Maybe I'm being too optimistic when I read what the OP posted but doesn't it sound more like they are capping the PVP'ers who have exploited, AE grinded, and raced to VR10 into a situation where, if they want to get that VR 12, they are going to have to go back into the world and quest for it?
A situation that is going to be a lot harder for those who really didn't get the proper number of skill points or actually learn how to play their characters in a utilitarian kind of way on their way to the top.
Meanwhile they are making it easier for those players who don't pvp as much, or not at all, to catch up by increasing the amount of experience given from participating in the PVP portion of the game?
I mean, that's how I'm picturing it. And again, I could be wrong.
If I'm not though, it seems like more of a solution to get two bad children to play together. One of those bad kids being the group of people that one to make the game one dimensional in one direction and the other being that group of people that want to make it one directional in the other.
Meanwhile, those who play the whole game get to benefit all the way around because not only are they going to catch the speed racers faster but are likely to be more prepared to jump up to 12 once they get there because they will already have the points and the PVE experience to get through the big quests.
I'm VR2 and compared my stats inside and outside Cyrodiil, they were the same except for additional health from the "Battle Spirit" buff, I overcharged my armor with heavy whites with reinforced trait and the difference was that I only had -16 armor inside Cyordiil. The scaling for Cyrodiil is really wonky, but if I remember correctly it stops scaling you once you hit VR.
The matter is made worse by players who exploited all sorts of crap to VR10 before Zenimax fixed it. So everyone else has to level the hard way to be competitive in pvp. Previously VR10 now VR12.
Ridiculous.
This says it all.
VR10 to Vr12 is like in real lvl's 20 LEVELS, that u need to go up. This is just insane the game is just out for 1 month and next month they increase the LVL CAP already, makes no sense.
PVE wise it should be all about GEAR progression not leveling progression after 1 month again.
PVP wise i see the vet ranks fit perfectly, PVE wise a total fail and just waist of time for nothing, VR10 is basically lvl 150 and when Vr12 hit's it is lvl 170.
Imagine players that will join the game after 6 months, there will be like VR18. Equal to a lvl cap of 230....well that will be some fun to play true the game man man can u imagine the Horror Grind? wane play with friends? help u out with dungeons, well very bad they can not enter low lvl dungeons to help ya out /HAVE FUN with playing a nice solo rpg game!!
most players don't yet understand the BIG impact that those veteran ranks have in the long run because they still lvling and have not yet experienced the vet ranks what they are, what for pro's it has and con's in the long run.

That's cool, it also happens to be the expansion that always gets brought when former players talk about when the game started going down hill. I remember reading a lot of "they're making it more like wow" around that time.
I believe more people dislike what he's done to this ES game than don't.
So I was reading through the upcoming content release/patch notes, and came across the following blurb,
Veteran Rank Updates You can earn up to Veteran Rank 12 as you continue your adventures in Craglorn. Additionally, the veteran XP earned from killing enemies has more than doubled.
So I haven't done much PVP, but I originally joined this game because I thought when I reached level 50, the playing field would be more or less level, outside of any "realm rank abilities" I might have to earn, a la DAOC.
But they don't really have that system it seems, but they do have VR1-10, and from what I'm reading, players who are VR5 have an advantage over a VR1, and a VR10 even more so.
Is this really true? Do we really have to grind our way through all of this PVE content to level the playing field in PVP? OK, fair enough, I was willing to do it, I'm a PVE'er at heart, and was willing to gut it out. (well, maybe)
But now I read about the upcoming release, and it says that by doing more PVE, Requiring grouping activities to complete (something I'm not really doing in this game, but that's another thread) which will result in players obtaining VR12 status.
Will a VR12 have substantial advantage over a VR10? If so, then I assume that when the next expansion comes out, it might raise the bar to VR14, and the advantage over VR10's would increase.
I can't see myself going through all of this group based, PVE in order to keep myself competitive in PVP, so am I really understanding this system correctly, or am I totally missing something?
Thanks in advance to anyone who is willing to help clarify this.
If I read the deep meaning of your post you feel as though VR ranks should have no meaning over one another so a higher VR should not have any advantage over a lower VR? That is nonsensical. That is what makes it fun.

Actually, that's exactly what I mean. Going back to DAOC, you leveled your character to 50, normally via PVE activities, but they made it so it was possible to do so entirely via PVP if you so chose.
Once there, you started collecting Realm Points, based on your PVP kills, Keep takes, and some small quests which could be then spent on special new abilities, both PVE and PVP focused, but most folks spent them on the more PVP oriented ones such as Purge, to break out of roots/snares etc.
There was a sort of a level up, when you hit Realm Rank 5L0, you got a bit of a bump up, and people called it unoffically level 51. But after that, the only advantage you could gain, was through better builds/gear sets and of course, having access to higher level and more realm abilities.
The leveling curve from PVE basically came to a halt. Well, at least until they screwed up and decided to release the Trials of Atlantis expansion, which suddenly added a host of new abilities and gear that were very advantageous in PVP but could only be obtained by completing the TOA content. That's when a host of PVPer's fled the game (reports previous in this thread are misguided) and is largely considered the "jump the shark" moment along with the New Frontiers expansion.
I don't want to chase a never ending PVE curve, just to keep my PVP competitiveness, and there's a chance they'll let people obtain VR 12 via only PVP activities, so they can skip the new release content (but I suspect they'll miss out on valuable gear)
Just not how I want to PVP in my MMO's. DAOC was not like this, until TOA, EVE is nothing like this, after a certain point (takes a good 2-3 years I'll grant) and there's nothing I need to train for in EVE to PVP effectively. (well, maybe Capital ships, but I don't have the stones to lose one of them)
You can't see the alternatives, because I suspect you never played any of the early titles that did not suffer this phenomenon, but it is possible to finally level the playing field some and make the game competitive.
It doesn't appear that ESO is going that direction, which is fine, just not the title for me so I'll be looking elsewhere.

I think it's more an issue of investing more time in PvE, just to be able to compete in PvP. As it is now, you can't even earn decent regular levels (10-50) from PvP. Certainly can't gain a bunch of VRs through it. So you can invest a LOT more time in PvP than in PvE, but still be weaker / lower VR than someone who focuses on only PvE first, then allowing them to jump right into PvP at max rank. A PvPer on the other hand, can't keep going through PvP. They need to stop PvP, go do PvE every time the cap gets raised, then come back to PvP after getting the new max VR.
Time invested isn't the problem. It's lack of rewards / progress for PvP, and having to play one side of the game in order to be better at the other but it is only a 1 way street. Doing PvP wont get you rewards that make you more capable in PvE.

Untrue. A number of the top 20 on AD Wabbajack do nothing but run small groups and actively avoid the zerg. The reward you get for killing an opponent 1v1 is much greater than in a zerg making it more lucrative than running around in a giant pack if you are a decent player.
Also, to the people that think this isn't a pvp game so it doesn't matter... there is literally nothing to do that takes up any amount of time at VR10 other than pvp. Pvp is the main focus of the game. If you don't like pvp and want raiding / typical endgame pve I would start looking at other games because you will not be happy with eso.

I basicly never zerg my biggest group I ever had in cyrondil was like 5 men, we are ganking trying to defend things like lumbermils/mines/farms if needed we also def a whole keep. It actually depens on how much siege weapons everyone buys and how fine you play in team.
If you got 10 oils with you, you can even defend 2vs20 a whole outpost.
In a zerg(raid) you get each kill like 20-40 veteran points. in a group of 2 and if you both deal the most dmg you get even a zerg helped you to kill 300 veteran points. If you kill guys solo because you keep catching them beetween keeps they even give you up to 1k.
Why do you thing those vampire exploiter just try to kill everyone solo with their lamer tactic.

If you are a true PvPer even one effin HP makes a difference in PvP.
However since ESO is zerg vs zerg I don't see you that disadvantaged in PvP over couple of veteran ranks.
If they do include arena modes or battlegrounds then we are going have issues but maybe it would be easier to gain VP in instanced PvP anyways ;j

Sounds like Warhammer Online.
Get to max level and then get 1 shot in PVP for 50 more lvls until you even have a chance..
