its pretty simple here..if your on or play on a pvp server

1.expect to be player killed no matter where you are if you like pvp or pvp servers this is where / what you like to play

    2. ppl that complain about being player killed on pvp servers are ppl that want to be god mode / max lvl asap so they can do what has been done to them and if thats not true maybe they should rethink about playing pvp in the 1st place

it is true that you have rude ppl commenting "stoopid" stuff in chat like "dont like pvp why you here?" or "this is a pvp server deal with it" when all your doing is trying to complete a quest and you have someone camping you and all you want is some help to rid the twat pvper...those kinds of ppl are annoying in chat but thats how the gamers have become to act like over the years instead of helping or grouping together to try to rid them

ic most of the poll has voted 1st choice..and prolly cuz most pppl in these forums are carebears and dont perfer pvp..every game i play i perfer to pvp or choose pvp servers but atm im rethinking ESO that   im currently playing cuz i dont relly care for that kind of pvp..would really liked to see a pvp server but i kno that will never happen..ill prolly go back to shadowbane...some ppl like the sence of urgency in a game ..some like just walk / skipping around questing with no trouble in site

its just a matter of choice really

And this sums up most of the situations. Darkfalls simply does not have any mechanics to create a proper balance. it's "police it yourself " game. pvp servers in pve themeparks are also the same. The mistake everyone makes is that many owpvp games don't have the gameplay elements in them to properly regulate players.

Unfortunatly, as shown in this thread, even if the game as said features, the moment a player gets ganked, even if the penalty for non combatants is basicaly non-existant, they over-react to it, and ragequit over nothing special.

And this also ilustrates why devs keep makign skinner box games. If you present players with a situation that might cause discomcort, no matter how minimal, they'll dramatize it.

You think Darkfall isn't a Skinner Box?

I said no to the poll.  Simply because the greatest feeling of triumph I have ever had in an MMORPG, greater than downing a hard to kill raid boss, or soloing a difficult group quest, or crafting a legendary item, was in Stranglethorn Vale (WoW) around level 30 on my Alliance warlock.

Minding my own business, having not molested the Horde around me.  Some guy over 10 levels higher than me attempts to gank my little young 'lock.  I proceed to run, firing off dots and fears, some of which stick to him and some of which slide off like rain since he's so much higher in level.  The fears that stick are sending him running into mob groups which then knock him around a bit on top of the small damage my other dots and drains are doing to him.  Eventually he keels over and I'm feeling giddy having run around all over the place, barely surviving, laughing my self silly when mobs smack him around.

That would never have happened on a PvE only server, and I was a happy camper to have gone through it.  Of course, I can't count the number of times some stealthed rogue threeshot me throughout my game time but that just came with the territory.  And the times when I was able to break stun and actually beat them was also rather triumphant.

I keep reading posts that seem to imply, "PvPers enjoy griefing." I can not help but think, "WTF?" I think anyone who says they "enjoy" griefing is telling a lie.

Some players see "griefing" as being an acceptable part of PvP. This, I can not argue with. It is their own opinion. I just do not find it acceptable for me.

I play MMOs to have fun and enjoy my time in the game. Frustration, having hours of fun gone, or not even being able to DO anything is not fun (or acceptable), to me. For those that do find it fun, more power to you :)

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.

Having high levels able to attack low levels can work if it is done right.

To make it work a few things have to be done:

    - Hide player levels.

    - No pvp rewards. Having PvP rewards is what encourages high levels to grief low level players.

    - Player made factions only.

    - Declaration of war system. In order to kill someone your guild must be at war with their guild. Default is peace. Guildless people can attack anyone but in order to attack them you would have to leave your guild unless hit first.

Darkfall has safe zones which have enough things to do within them to allow you to become strong enough to be considered PvP viable within the 1st week or so (few days if you know what youre doing / have someone guiding you). You can earn enough prowess to invest in your stats and skills that you can max out your man stat along with getting some other stats up to a decent level and also max out a few skills. You can also either craft your own gear, or have enough gold to buy some, which is pretty equal to what your average player is running around in. Very few people actually run around in the best gear just for he hell of it. Not worth the cost / risk of losing. Most people generally stick to medium tiers of gear for normal gameplay which are very easy to make and not very costly.

Beyond your main stat, the rest only give a very minor advantage, and gear also doesnt provide a huge difference. It is much more skill based in PvP than most other games to the point where, by the time you even need to step out of the safe zone and risk being attacked, you can hold your own in a fight just fine IF you have the skill to do it.

It doesnt require any other mechanics to "police" the game. Nothing is forcing you out of the SZ until you're strong enough to compete in PvP. Doing so is your own choice.

Seems the point of this post is being lost.  It's not about if it's "right" to gank, or "care bear" players.  The question is asking if "griefing" damages a game, and the concensus of the poll is yes.  So stop with the cuttlefish impressions (muddying the water).  Does griefing damage a game?  Argue this point.

I play PvP and have been on the sharp end of corpse camping, and endless ganks while leveling, never fun.

Personally I feel it does damage a game.

Be safe, have fun! (Don't let my point of view affect you.  Afterall it's just "pixels")

it depends, cause many times i saw these newbie characters to be actuall cameramen to inspect the enemy ... also thats why i prefer action combat MMOs where the stats dont pay a role but the skills .
