I didn't play the game long enough in beta to give it a rating of any kind. I uninstalled after two play sessions of about 2 hours each. I really wanted to like the game because I am a big fan of the ES series. I think that reviews should at least consider the IP in this case. Does the game feel like an ES game at all? It didn't to me for several reasons. There was no possibility to being immersed into the ES universe. Points should be deducted IMO for such a poor use of the IP.

i dont think youre bothered by the copied dungeons - i wasnt ....doesnt take away from the immersion - other players and bots are much worse...

I would completly agree with 95% of the review - except longevity...i dont see it...but then again, i dont see longevity for any themepark

I don't get it, how do you give GW2 a 9.3 , TSW a 8.5 and FF14 8.4? I am starting to think you guys are getting paid for real, sure the game has bugs but lets be real, this game has more content then the 3 games above combined let alone deep story and lore.

You guys are losing your touch.

The social score of 8 blew up this entire review, got too greedy there. Well it almost worked.

Spot on review. To note the normal and usual trolls are back and completely upset that with all the non-playing the game critiques they have spewing did nothing to sway this honest review. I mean really Meta-Critic? HA

Forums are hardly a place to get an accurate review of anything. In-game is so much different than what these obvious P2P haters eject out there its not even funny.

And wow the the cute little pic being thrown around about what the dungeons look like is patently false. Some look alike, most don't with a lot of quest occuring out in the open world.  I love when a person reads this crap and goes OMGZ really???? LOLZ  with out even playing the game and just believing some random guy again NOT playing the game..

The PVP area is HUGE been playing a month and i havent even seen all the area yet....

So to reviewer KUDOS on an honest review and to all the haters?...well you will find something else to hate

So much misinformation and BS here...../facepalm

It does say "31 are not duplicated."  If you'd like, we can talk about how clearing a room full of mobs that pull simultaneously in one of these instanced group dungeons netted me just a few trash items and a mere 23 gold (we're talking 10+ mobs in said dungeon).  Or how the entire dungeon, while level appropriate for my character, yielded me (even with quest reward) about 1/4 level for my character, if that.  Or how the drops worth picking up from the dungeon totaled 2 items.  The solo quests/dungeons are a much more efficient endeavor.  I'm all for group content for the sheer challenge and teamwork, and I enjoyed that dungeon experience, but if that kind of balancing act continues, no one will care to run them.  ESO encourages the solo player.  That group content, while not copy/pasted, isn't even worth the time.

yeap.. and those 31 dungeons they're talking about...don't include the ones he was talking about

I mean think about that for a second..over 100 dungeons in a game...and people are like "well they have 70 that look the same"...How anal can you people be?

    I mean bloody hell people...

"ESO looks and feels like a TES game to me. I feel just as connected to Tamriel in ESO as I did in Skyrim and Oblivion"

Absurd, period. It looks like a TES game but that is where it stops. This entire statement makes me want to throw up actually.

Well he had a nice write up as to why he thinks it does, you just want to throw up. So tell us why it doesn't feel like any other Elder Scroll game.

  • Here's what i find funny, Gw2 gets a 9.2...or whatever....When I remember leveling up in that game consisting of

    A. People running the same "Group" Even Chain over and over again... for example..Centaurs invade land, we follow what was basically a rip off of Warhammer Public Quest system to the different events and then get a chest at the end.

    B. Standing in front of a Cave hitting the 1 key with a Greatsword while mobs spawned...I could only stand about 30 mins of this before i found it boring... but pretty much every single zone had one of these and the Koreans and Chinese were farming it.

    C. Sweeping up some NPC's porch, or removing graffti...or some other terrible pointless shit...Like hey..I need you to pick the fruit from this tree...Congrats you filled up the heart and get some XP...Just like Public Quests in Warhammer online with stages...

    D. Crafting 40 levels..Like Seriously...If crafting did not give XP in GW2..there is no way i would of gotten 80... the pve is bloody awful... Pretty much every Alt i've made i've lvled entirely by crafting because the PvE is that bad..its so bad i never even finished the main story of the game.

I am pretty sure that i remember the author of this article said something like "well do no expect anything 8 or higher from me lol" in some thread.

(Oh yes i found it: "ESO won't be quite that low, but don't expect an 8 or higher from me either.  :)  For what it's worth, our reviews as a whole at MMORPG scale lower than our colleagues across the web.") http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/post/6302496

Well, he kept his word. 7.9 is lower then 8.

    Interesting read. Good PR bulletin.

Stages of a new mmo: 1) It's just beta. It still has plenty of time before release. 2) It just launched. Give it time. WoW wasn't built in a day. 3) We don't need you anyway. 4) F2P announced. 5)Huge influx of players. 6) Look how much has changed. 7) Cash shop is the only thing developed lately. 8) It has been a long journey and we thank everyone who was part of it. Shutting down in 3 months. (Courtesy of Robokapp.)

One of my biggest gripes so far is the combat. It just doesn't feel satisfying. I can't say for sure exactly what the problem is. Maybe it's the sound and/or animation. It's not visceral at all. It doesn't feel solid. Maybe it will get better as time goes on and they polish the game more. Maybe not.

The combat in TERA and Neverwinter just feels good. I feel like I am making contact with something solid. Of course those games have other issues (in my opinion).

I wish some company could get all the major components correct in a single game. It just doesn't seem like it is ever gonna happen.

    Anyone else feel this way?

Yes that's what I found odd. It seems as though he changed his mind for some reason and decided to rate it higher than he'd intended. And bearing in mind what he'd said previously gave it this weird 7.9 score. I can't believe he was intending to give it 7.9 when he wrote that.

I guess some kind of miracle happened in between :)

I've really been enjoying this game. Granted my mmo experience is limited having only played wow and gw2. I'll say that whike wow is by far the most complete mmo I've played, I'm having just as much fun playing eso. Eso just seems more immersive thAn either of the other two. I could very well be losing my mind bc people seem to have a special hatred for this game. I'm not a fan boy, and don't have allegiances to certain games. I play what I think is good and this is definitely good. Buggy, botty and suffering from an identity crisis at times... Yes. Still, this is the most fun I've had with an mmo in a while. ( loved wow just as much to be fair). Also, hopefully the developers will continue to work the kinks out and will listen to what the players want. Does anyone else like this game? Or Am I just losing my mind ?

That looks to me like quest caves

No different than what WoW does.

Open world dungeons and a cave that has a quest objective is very different.

Not really. Where do you get the quest in ESO's open world solo dungeons? ;)

When you compare it to earlier reviews 7.9 seems fair. They generally give out way too high scores.

    Personally I would give ESO a 5 or a 6.

Your point is valid, appreciate this information.  Pretty much agree with all of this.

You know friend before this review i wrote here 5/10 and i get temprorary ban. Now  most of people think same of me. i think moderaotr must  consider fairly before judge.

There are paid reviews and honest ones. I guess this one is the previous one as MMORPG have tried to say very possitive things about this game. A somewhat positive review will in the end make so this site gets some more cash from zenimax via commercial (indirectly paid review) and MMORPG knows this. That's why we gets a positive one.

    Here are my silly ratings..

GAMEPLAY - 9  I havent had this much fun in a long time, even more fun then GW2 last year (which i enjoyed a lot)

AESTHETICS – 10  as i personally think its the most beatifull world in any MMO

INNOVATION - 7 Taking known things to the limit...  its evolution, not revolution... however the crafting system is different and prommising... and they introduced some Elder scrolls stuff  to the MMO world...

POLISH - 4 The totall number of bugs is totally unacceptable

LONGEVITY - 9  eternal leveling approach, not an alting game, but a single char that can enjoy it all... mostly depends on if they can push enough hard content to keep average joe that plays 20 to 40 hours a week busy with the new content...

SOCIAL - 5  There are no tools for socialising, but then if you find a few good guilds you are okay..   but there is a lot of work to be done, to overcome the current hurdles

VALUE - 9  BEst MMO since WoW, it feels fresh and immersive... and there is more then enough carrots to keep me going for a very long time.... espescially if they can add the stuff they prommised like Adventure zones, Spell creator, criminal system, mentoring and such...  They are only starting

all in all i would say 77%, because of the obvious problems so far.... if they solve them before the console release.... it will be eipc with WoWish player numbers on consoles...

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

i believe the gameplay and the value are overestimated on your review : )

i dunno if anything changed since beta, but although i am fan of action combat, in ESO's case it is executed really poorly just as my english ! lol

Agree with some points Bachus made and yours about combat also.

I would give a 6.5-7 score as it is right now. Time will tell if it will be a much better game than it is now. I hope to be, as i hope for every other game, because i think we need good games and not crap ones :)

GAMEPLAY - 5  You are limited what you can do in combat. I wished it was more complex than this. You are also limited which faction you can join for each race and where you can go. You can not group up with players of opposite faction. It feels you are running, running and running from quest to quest which feels extremely repetitive, tiresome and boring. I wished it was more fun to loot. Without looking at the map you don't really know where you are in the world as you teleport from zone to zone. All in all the gameplay feels quite mediocre.

GRAHPIC – 7  I wished some races looked little bit different. Animations could look better.

POLISH - 4 To many bugs.

LONGEVITY - 5  I think the game will be fun for many players the first weeks but after that many will feel the same way as I did after few hours gameplay.

VALUE - 6  It's not the worst MMO I have played, but it's not the game I would recommend to my best friends.

The Review in itself isn't bad, the score is just quite inflated. I'm sure you'll be backing Zenimax Online with your wallet for quite some time for your own reasons, but that doesn't really make the score well deserved. The scores for social and value don't feel right at all. Longevity is a question mark as well, but whatever.

Still, a 7.2 or a 7.5 or a 7.9 doesn't make all that much of a difference really when you compare it to the scores other games have gotten. So pretty good review I guess.

9/7/6/8/6/7 for a 7.2 average rounded up, that would be pretty fair IMO.

From my experience, I'd rate the social score as higher than most because I actually stop and help people and sometimes sit down with other random people in the game. We could be waiting for a boss or Anchor, or just in the city crafting. I have not done this in years.

Polish-wise, I actually have had only a handful of bugged quests (not bugged anymore) and I'm passed 25 on multiple characters. I've fallen through the world one time since launch. My rig set-up seems to be working pretty well with the game and the FPS itself is crazy good. I'd give polish a  pretty high score.

Longevity... I have never played many mmos that actually make me want to experiment wih new characters and try new builds. Also I'm not rushing the game. Both of these reasons give this game higher longevity than anything else I've played recently.

    Aesthetics...this game is freaking gorgeous.

Support..every single ticket I've entered has rendered a response fairly quickly. Granted I don't enter many because I don't have as many issues as other computers.

So a lot of the issues people are facing are semi-personal. I'd give the game a 7.5-8.0... professionally. Personally, since I haven't had this much fun in half a decade, I'd give the game an 8.5. Way more fun with way more longevity than say Diablo 3....even the new expansion since it's really a total grind fest.
