It is blatant trolling done by players of ESO in chat. They bait people into thinking things by saying obnoxious things like that. They are saying it's the wow killer with the 10 million sub thing, which when I was in zone chat in ESO there was quite a few WOW WAS THE FIRST MMO comments so I wouldn't be surprised to see this being a new troll attempt.
I don't like spam in general chat but if I'm questing I don't pay attention to it anyway so sales pitch away. I've seen it before in other games and a few months ago in WS beta where someone was bitching how ESO was better. So tit for tat I suppose.
The numbers mentioned are pure fantasy though. I'm sure WS will get at least a million subs at start then trickle down to half that for the rest of it's run. People will be hoping it goes f2p which it might since other big name mmo's went that route. Either way expect to see more of this during their open beta run.
Heh, it's funny people posting about knotwood being a synonym for a shill. Are we getting a new household name for shills?
Anyways, now I'm considering cancelling my digital deluxe purchase. I haven't played the game yet and won't be considering playing the beta since I have no time for it.

People actually think Carbine had something to do with this? Thank you, this is why we have shows like "Keeping up with the Kardashians" and fads like "planking".
I love stuff like this because it's fun, It's like when wow released there panda expansion and another game collected donations to save pandas stuff like this should happend more often.
Originally posted by LordZeik Guess carbine is desperate to get more players. I want to say that it isn't carbine doing this.... But, I've seen several other players with different names posting the same exact ad. Wonder if this is going to become a new trend for trying to bulk up your playerbase.
I doubt it's Carbine, but if it is, this is truly a new low for advertising everywhere lol.
Why would you consider this a low move?
I would call it a savvy move on the part of Carbine, your advertising to MMO gamers, inside an MMO game, surely that's only common business sense.
I used to work at Cable and Wireless in Bracknell, 1 day a van with an advertising billboard turned up, parked the trailer that had the billboard on it outside the IT building of C&W, the Bill Board was advertising for IT personnel for Vodafone, C&W where not happy as they did lose some of their IT ppl, but damn was it a bold and brilliant piece of poaching of staff.
There is no such thing as low advertising, you do what you have to to sell your product, and lets face it it's a dog eat dog environment in the MMO world.

It's called Astroturfing and it can get you sued in a heartbeat.

If it is carbine their marketing department sucks. Advertising breaking 18 million subs in the first year only invites ridicule not interest. I'm guessing it's a troll, particularly with those TM marks trying to stir up the ESO fans, and by all appearances he was quite successful.
Look again at the figures posted, 10 million in 18 months. Still ludicrous but lets not start with Chinese whispers, before you know it trailer parks around the world will be up in arms that their beloved WoW is in danger of being toppled by a game claiming to have 118 million players in 10 days.

Yeah, probably not carbine. How hilarious would it be for a dev to be like, "Hey come play our game!" while not playing their own game.

Well that's fortunate I'm in the UK, as the Unfair trading standards ppl are as woeful at enforcing rules as our Government is at sticking with their election promises, and as such it's very very rare to see any action over unfair or biased advertising, other than a slap on the wrist, and certainly no suing.

Don't forget the other lil' gems:
"largest game world ever" and "predator permastealth"
You would think Carbine would actually know their game a bit better. (/sarcasmfont) And let's be honest if this was NCSoft the grammar wouldn't be nearly as well written.
Whats funny is in the Wildstar Beta we are getting ads like that for ESO and the new update. I wonder who this 3rd party is.... tin foil cap = BLIZZARD Employees!!!!!!!

Wouldn't surprise me if some "edgy" internet marketing firm promising a "viral" sales campaign managed to fool both companies into hiring them, would explain why the advertisement sucked so much and why they didn't even have a good grasp of the game they were trying to advertise.
Or it could just be the same troll or someone who saw the other troll. I'm sure a lot of people have access to both ESO and Wildstar beta.
Certainly seems like you are. Why are you trying to allude that its an official wildstar ad and then putting that asterisk at the end saying 'its clearly a fan'. This reminds me of when news organizations try to pull the line 'some people say'. Why would Carbine do something that's illegal and easily traceable VIA account information.
Obviously this is a fan trolling / trying to cause drama.
Wouldn't be surprised if it was you. At least its not as far of a stretch in saying its Carbine.
I would change your title to 'Wildstar fanboy trolling in ESO general chat'
I'm not trying to make anything out of this. Wildstar is not my cup of tea but I have no particular hate for it or the people who like it.
I'm just sharing this screen cap because it's funny and so well formatted that it almost looks like an official ad... although it's almost certainly just one fan.

Yes, his absence from ESO forum is noticable, maybe he got new job on WS, now when ESO has launched
Good... it restores my faith in the universe to know NCsoft's marketing department operates like L2 PvP.

Truly, best of luck to those that are interested in WS and are looking forward to it.
I just wish that they could be excited about their game without dragging ESO into it. This goes for players in Forums, Games or anything else.
