Those statements reek of attention seeking and desperation.
When you are best at something there is no need to say it, as people are going to talk about it.
On the other hand whenever a product claims to be best...... almost never the case.
I couldn't agree more.
That said. The three things they have done best (in the game, not the genre) IMO are:
Housing, Crafting, and Adventures
I'm not a fan of their dungeons. Not at all.
For the record: A tough guy doesn't have to tell you he is tough. You can just look at them and know.
Ummm i hope that you are not ostracized by your fellow staff members for going against the opinions of the rest of the site.
Having dissenting opinions is a good thing, for some reason MMORPG.COM are really white knighting WS.
As i have said in many other posts about WS, i wish there was something that intrigued me, but i just cannot get that hook like other games have done.
My biggest issue is that 40 man raids = end game, for me that's a huge deterrent.
regardless i do wish that the mods and other employee's of MMORPG.COM could be more objective and stop acting as a mouth piece for whatever game is paying them with advertisement dollars. The ads are here the pandering needs to be rethought... this site needs to get back its integrity with the MMO community.
Reminds me of my supervisor years ago at my last job. Guy was an Army Ranger and was a bad ass mofo but whenever pressed he would always say he was a Cook in the Army. Tough guys don't announce their tough.
As for raids, yea I agree. I seriously doubt they are ever going to produce the kind of content for ME when 99% of the time the content delivered will be for the 1% raider community.
So i went to the official forums, i started a thread about 40 man raids, i just simply asked if there was an alternative to getting BiS gear.... Wow umm the fury and anger that has unleashed on me is crazy.
I dunno, i can handle 25 man raids... but 40 is just a terrible situation.... brb dog needs a walk.... brb kid is wanting a cookie... brb i need a beer.... brb i gotta pee.... brb my cat just knocked over my drink..... brb my wife is pissed at me for playing... on and on and on.
Carbine needs to rethink this decision, but lol i feel i am the minority opinion, even though hardcore raiders make up such a small portion of MMO gamer populations.
I was having some issues with my video card a couple of months back so am reluctant to fire up the beta although I have had it for awhile. I played it a bit in the beginning and like the quirky game but reading alarming stories about the card heating up and so on has me wary.
I will wait and see how the launch goes before I decide. Waiting saved me from ESO.

Ah, so you remember 40 man raids too?
I never, never, not once, regardless of how many different guilds I've been in, seen a large (40+ person) raid that wasn't absolutely full of the above. Even watching top tier raids guilds on youtube, the same thing happens. Getting 40+ people to sit together at the same exact time for 4 or so hours IS the entire challenge of large scale raiding.
Ouch. I'm kind of excited for WildStar, but these claims have a hint of desperation. This is not good marketing, especially after the WildStar ads in other games debacle earlier this week.
Let your game stand on it's own merit Carbine, don't try to convince people it's something beyond what it really is. The game is good enough to stand on it's own imo without trying to embellish it or make it seem like it's groundbreaking in any way. This is how big hype let downs like GW2, Rift, SWToR, etc. all made the same mistake.
Currently Playing: ESO and FFXIV Have played: You name it If you mention rose tinted glasses, you better be referring to Mitch Hedberg.

Hell all my 25 man guilds WoW were full of that.
But the issue I have with raiding is FORCED time constraints. I never ever ever ever ever want to play a game that requires me when, where and how I must play. "Raid Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at 7PM". I should never ever have to plan to play a FREAKING video game. If I want to raid then I should be able to do it with out being told when to play. I should be able to raid without attendance issues, without drama, without forcing others to log on. I should be able to play the game when I log in right away, not plan out my play sessions around some silly time constraint such as a raid. Such a stupid concept.
I did large, hardcore style quests in Asheron's Call that took multiple groups to coordinate but none of it was ever planned it was always spur of the moment because the times you could pull off certain quests were dicatated by certain events in the game world. Not preplanned.
Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!
Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!
Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!
With a single sentence carbine turned everyone's attention towards their game, which was the point.
These guys never struck me as stupid, or even all that serious. They seem to know what kind of game they're making, and who they're making it for and they haven't tried to cover hat up. I really respect that.
Its a game for people who miss vanilla WoW. Not my cup of tea, but I know a lot of people want that kind of raiding mmo.
This panel reminds me exactly of the guys who were promoting hyping Warhammer,it did more to turn me off than encourage me to play it.
It doesn't bother me if someone thinks their product is the best but at least say WHY,not just because.Tons and tons of content means nothing to me if the content is all shallow,i want GREAT quality content.
Also the whole MMO thing for me is about going online to play with other people,i don't care about solo content nor pvp either.
Their combat is just a copy of FFXIV's and miles worse than the king of combat "FFXI".
Housing, well i am not sure what they are talking about as criteria for being the best but when everything looks cartoony,it turns me off because housing is something players would expect to look great, the visual MATTERS.
I already realized long ago, these guys are great at hyping and marketing, just average at game design.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Once out in the open it was screamingly colourful WoW zones with a framerate of 1-3 fps, then even worse: one frame the red telegraph comes on, next frame one second later - dead on the ground
“Best Housing of any MMO, ever,” Matt Mocarski - SWG did it better. “We are the first ever MMO to do mount customizations (we have hoverboards in the game if you didn’t know),” Matt Mocarski - SWG had this feature.....
Still the best thing that can be said about Wildstar, is that its ok.
how did galaxies do it better? how did galaxies have mount customization?
On top of that you had Bio-engineer that could create creatures determining stats and colors plus have a creature handler raise the beast and give it custom commands and name it. Not to mention the entire Lord of the Rings mount customization with horses. It's like they don't even know what they are talking about and spouting bullshit claims.
Wildstar is just another WoW Clone.
Any bets on how long before NCSoft shuts it down? I think City of Heroes was a much better game and it got the axe so I can't see Wildstar lasting anywhere near as long. Oh and I'm holding up three fingers that NCSoft can read between the lines on for how I feel about what they did to CoH which is one of the many reasons I won't touch Wildstar.

Just fired up Open Beta client for the first time.
As far as optimization, I don't know what the haters have been smoking but it has improved quite a bit in the past months and quite a bit for Open Beta. First 4 maps don't dip below 50 FPS and raverage at 70 FPS for me (even the ships), with everything on Ultra at 1440p. Haven't tried a dungeon yet for the sparkly effects, but I'm not expecting below 50FPS on average.
Oddly enough, if I set everything to Low my FPS is halved in some areas. So, yes, some settings are clearly odd, but overall the game works well.
It seems the author of this post, was a bit .. sleepy and his mind was at another game.
Every person with half a brain which will listen to the stream, will actually see the difference as in what circumstances they said that lines.
But then again, keep hating ..
Reporter: What's behind Blizzard success, and how do you make your gamers happy? Blizzard Boss: Making gamers happy is not my concern, making money.. yes!
I take back what I said about the optimization. It's better but it still plays funky, and that annoyingly ugly foliage bug still happens (where grass bugs out and stretches out all over). Also I didn't realize this before because I was too busy running around solo... just when I thought the game couldn't get anymore obnoxious, the particle effects when in groups = on par with Guild Wars 2 clutter. I'd hate to participate in a raid.
"As far as the forum code of conduct, I would think it's a bit outdated and in need of a refre *CLOSED*"
Well they were right, I jumped into the beta and the game won me over.... It is a really well made MMO and although it is cartooney and borderline childish the art style does have, personality, I like it.....
Im still having fun with ESO so I guess it will be descion time at the end of the month, Iv never played two MMO's at once nor do I have the time to attempt it. I guess I could play both very casually but im not sure how well that will work out with a game like Wildstar, Sounds like they are going for more a vanilla wow vibe.
Every good thing about WildStar is ruined by the fact that the game includes cash for gold pay 2 win, like a sleazy F2P.
CREDD, which they love to hype but never fully explain, boils down to buying in-game gold for cash. Something that is usually considered bannable cheating in most sub-based MMORPG, Carbine has turned into an additional revenue stream for themselves on top of the 15/mo sub and 60 box.
Not even close. There is a very comprehensive article on WS website explaining how CREDD works. Go read it and then come back and edit your post.
I don't think that the testers have to prove anything to Carbine and it is rather the other way around. An open beta is all about a studio proving anything there is to proof about their product.
The state of the game atm leaves many players questioning the game's quality on launch. If anything, Carbine has alot left to proof to keep people interested.
Originally posted by Jimmydean This is silly. Of course they are going to think it is the best game out there, they created it! Why would it be desperation to take pride in a great product that you developed? What did you want them to say, "This game is pretty horrible, but at least not as horrible as ESO?"

I still have to mute the annoying combat sounds (especially melee) that start to sound like nails on a chalkboard after any prolonged period of time, but I can't fault the devs' enthusiasm.
Having a combat system so focused on moving out of the red or die plus having to spam your number keys at the same time in order to attack seems counter productive and was just out right annoying to me. I guess it would be fine if I had one of those bajillion button mouses but I don't. The main problem for me was that even though I tried every class, every time it just felt like a was leveling another character in WoW. No thanks.
Any game where even the most rabid fanboi/ enthusiast of the game states you have to get to level 20 - 30 to have the game "OPEN UP and draw you in " indicates an epic fail on the devs part ,IMO
No, I'm not gonna spend time sifting through threads to link these exact comments made by other posters here who rate this a 10/10 game.

Everquest handled it right in its glory days. every playstyle had plenty of upgrade paths that fit their playstyle.
I do agree that the raiders get pissy about it and act like babies, but they are right in their logic.
Folks have done the first 20-30 levels - no need to keep doing them over and over and over. I guarantee that if everybody could get to 50, all those past testers would be in the game right now.
