It´s funny how people that are dissapointed show themself much more than ppl who are happy. First when i checked the score and fixed an account here i saw it was pretty ok with resubbers. Tho the first posts i see when i scroll down is just mindless "cancel" propaganda.
And we all know, one negative feeling can outnumber 10 positive sometimes. When you tell someone something enough times it becomes true, even if its not. So im glad to see those who like this game starting to post their positive reactions, that is needed. Otherwise people who don´t even tried the game start to whine, (they already do) and then the game can´t win anymore.
The game has flaws but i also like it very much, i actually bought 3 months right away. After that i think a MMO got a fairly tryout and i can decide if it´s something that will live on for some years.
Had two accounts. Cancelled one before first billing. Thought I would hold onto the second for another month and see if anything changed. I logged in for 30 mins or so each day since and just couldn't seem to find a reason to keep playing so I cancelled the second. Will try it again after the NGE.
it is interesting... if it was true of the general population, more than half would have left.
Still, that's pretty much what I expect of any major release. So many people just come to see what it's all about.
I would agree- I would also say ESO will lose a greater portion of people than any other MMO as of yet due to the fact it being an ES game many are 'trying' it who otherwise would never touch the game.
I think even if you had the raw data the reasons would be far more complex given the IP of this game vs any others. It should (IMHO) have a higher number of cancellations no matter what (quality and everything else aside) based on the curiousity factor alone. However, it should also statisticly have much higher box sales as a result.
I think comparing (or trying to compare) eso to any other game using data is not going to work based on many, many factors unique to eso.
I know Star Wars had a huge IP (larger than ES I am sure) but its not the same.
I did not find the plethora of bugs everyone else did. I had a VR3, level 43, level 20 something, ect. (I like playing multiple characters. But I will not return until they make combat more smooth. It felt very clunky.

MMO combat always leaves something to be desired. TESO are trying to break away from tab target and any attempt at that gets a plus in my book, simply because we need more variety in every game systems MMO's use. I prefer TESO combat to GW2 and TSW, its on a par with Terra. Hard to compare to my other favs as they are tab target like Lotro, or move towards FPS like PS2.
About 32 % said they would resub which is the norm for all the subscriber type games. In fact it is 30 % and below usually and this seems above the norm by a little. So all things said ESO is doing as well as the usual sub games.
We just do not know what number they started with though; the number of people who bought the game. Since Zenimax seems reluctant to announce the number and I say reluctant because they bragged they had 5 million beta testers if a lot of people bought the game they would have already said so.
I realize this poll has about a 0% accuracy rating, but throwing out the results for 'show me the results' and 'I have prepaid for several months', which is ambiguous, we're looking at about a 43% retention rate for ESO.
Not too shabby IMO
Since when is approximately 40% retention rate after one month "not too shabby".
I remember Warhammer had a 33% retention rate after 3 months and that was considered an utter catastrophe.
If by "not to shabby" you mean "approximately the same level of failure as the long line of mostly failing subpar MMOs in the past decade" then yes, you're right.
It's probably not the worst failure of an MMO ever.

ES players take a game like Skyrim and play it for many months. They don't, by and large, care at all about reaching "level cap" and "getting to the real game". There are, easily, enough things for an Elder Scrolls fan to do to keep them occupied for 4 to 6 months. I'd expect such players to then lose interest, but the people who try to cram a couple of hundred hours of gaming into a month and then cancel are not playing in the way that ES players usually approach a game like Skyrim.
too much of a single player experience....i like group games not single player games.
Good luck in finding that type of mmorpg in todays standards, welcome to the era of console gaming and instant gratification. The days of getting a group to accomplish goals is over, no one has patience for that anymore.
what does console gaming has to do with grouping in mmos? are you assuming (wrongly of course) that console games cant be social? If so then ill destroy your wrong assumption by saying that my grouping experience in console gaming has been (not perfect, not even close) but much better and more social than what mmos offer these days. Just saying. If you are anti social then that doesnt make any platform bad for grouping.
EDIT: that comment sounded like some of the Elitists i found in a guild in ESO.
Only thing that's stopping me is that Archeage is progressing very quickly through development. I'd rather avoid sinking money into this if I'm just going to play that game anyway.
I'm subbed for all eternity...Best IP in video games, and really enjoying myself with my friends. They need to increase the friend list size...mine is maxed lol. Oh and I got VR10 Imperial Templar Tank, VR3 Khajiit Nightblade Assassin, 42 Argonian Dragonknight Healer, 38 Nord Sorcerer Thane, 36 Wood Elf Nightblade Archer, 36 Dark Elf Dragonknight Fire Mage, 32 Breton Templar Healer, and 32 Nord Dragonknight Dragonborn. and my VR10 was emperor for about a week before I started my alt rampage lol. Just posting all this since everyone else seems to be posting their levels and stuff.
There isn't much I'd change. If you think this was the buggiest launch in mmo history, this must be your first MMO and your first TES game. I was surprised there weren't more along with server issues. The game isn't perfect and NO GAME EVER WILL BE. So if you want a perfect game with no bugs, just quit gaming, because you'll never find it.
Cancelled at level 16. I don't hate ESO, because I don't hate games. Games are inanimate objects which are the product of developer decisions and market trends.
ESO is a perfect example of the current state of the MMORPG genre. It's another in a long line of bland, generic solo quest grinders with absolutely nothing to offer to anyone except the people who don't actually like MMORPGs, but have taken over the genre anyway like some bizarre hive mind.
"We are the Soloers. Your social and game mechanics distinctiveness will be added to our own. You will be repurposed and forced to play by yourselves to suit our needs. Developers love us. You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile."
Interesting trend with where the percentage of people and their level ranges and when they canceled or resubbed. I would have figured they would have been the opposite with more people canceling after the mid levels than before it. So either a lot of the people who take their time just quit for whatever reason. I know there are some of the, "I'm only level 10 and taking my time and still loving it" crowd that post here every now and again. Either the game couldn't hold more of the slow levelers or it failed to grab people early on.

Well the thing is single players lovers don't mind playing solo. But there are tons of MMO's where group play is a must and players like to do it. In ESo group play is not there that much because of the design of the current system they using for group play and all know its just a BS system that is broken, so players are forced to do it solo instead to play together in ESO.
The game isn't that unfriendly for group play. There are lots of people blowing very minor inconveniences up like they're the end of the world.
In fact, it's because the group play is so good that people are complaining about these minor inconveniences. It's not conventional by any means, but aside from SWTOR and being able to see what other players chose in their class story dialogues, it's just about one of the best group experiences gameplay wise you can get in an MMO.
canceled at level 24.I couldnt stand playing anymore, knowing that i'll have to pay per month as well.
As a buy to play game looks an average but to pay for it...meh
Looks like my prediction was true that eso is worse than swtor.
The reason why the MMO community by and large, sucks. They want everything for free, and they have unrealistic expectations for things that aren't. There is literally zero ability for a functional concept of the meaning of the word "quality" to emerge inside their brain.
Just cancelled, highest level character was 28. And here I was planning to play ESO for 6-12 months at least since I am such a big fan of ESO lore and story =( .I was just so sure this was the game that'd keep me occupied, but the horrid phasing mechanics finally put me off for good for the time being. Not being able to do the main quest nor any of the puzzles with my partner was a *huge* oversight. The game feels and plays like a single player game more then an MMORPG, seems like many people feel the same way too I notice.
I also noticed there's this inconsistency with what quests you can can't do with your group. In one quest I might be able to kill stuff and it counts for both me and my partner, and in another it might not count at all. Dialogue will also cut off and I can't read because my partner went on ahead quicker then me, then in other instances this doesn't happen. It's a shame because so much is put into the lore and story, which I really enjoyed, but I'm paying 15 a month for a MMORPG experience not just an RPG experience.
I like the game, I feel it has some great things going for it, but it needs much work, especially with such an expensive box price and then expecting people to play 15 a month for it.

This is so wrong. I'm trying my hardest to think of a triple A MMORPG with worse grouping mechanics and less social incentive than ESO, and I truly and honestly can't do it, and I have played a LOT of games. Quests that lock you out from progressing with others, phasing issues, irrelevant small group content with only 4 people per group, megaserver kills server identity and overall community, Cyrodiil is a massive zerg where you're simply one of the crowd.
This really is a single player game. You could replicate Elder Scrolls Online by taking 2/3rds of the content out of Skyrim, and modding in a global chat channel for everyone playing. Now, if you like single player games, fine, have fun and enjoy your time. But a subscription fee for a single player game is not acceptable.

interesting post so far ~547 votes and 31.3% kept it, 37.3% canceled, and 31.4% abstained.

Resubed - its best MMO I can find on market ATM.
Played EVE for a long while, got tored of it.
WOW, SWTOR - bored of it
Still play some LOL and BF4 when feel like it.
Simply dont see 15$ as something that will change my life to such extent that I cant afford basic life needs.
