I find it rather cute that in this discussion the ESO fans do not even think their game can claim number 2 spot and have therefore not even entered this discussion. They must truly have their feet planted in the right place. Well we are just speculating about revenue .No idea what the profits are though .

Except for GW2/WoW/EvE you cannot even get revenues, let alone profit.
Originally posted by redgang1 Not surprising, they built GW2 with absolutely zero lasting power just like every other new MMO. Tack on lack of progression and the game will be a ghost town in no time.
Been playing two years now and still enjoying it. Its hands down the best value for money mmo that I have ever brought. People have been saying that it will be a ghost town in no time since its release. Its still as busy as it was 18 months ago . I know its success galls you because you don't enjoy the game but it doesn't change the facts this has been a very successful game .
Also you make it sound like your speaking for everyone in say it has "absolutely zero lasting power" that just makes you look self opinionated and arrogant .
They did the megaservers because there weren't enough players populating the world...
every single time i logged in at any given time of the day about 80% of the servers always have had constantly very heavy population while the remaining servers always have had heavy load. Of course after a while the low level zones will feel empty because people level up and move on, its the same with WoW and every single mmo regardless of model
You actually can expect a B2P game to be racking up on sales after 2 years... games like LoL are doing it just fine... It's really a matter of whether you have enough people playing the game to make it work...
LoL is a F2P game that relies on cash shop since its inception. GW2 is a B2P mmo which means box price and then cash shop.... not really the right games to compare with each other.
Also you are comparing gw2 numbers to games that are 10- 15 years old and came out before WoW ballooned the market numbers...
So you say he was wrong by comparing numbers with older games? then how can you be right by comparing games with 2 different payment models?
Sure NC is not doing very well, but they havent done very well way before GW2 came out, remember Aion? it had to go F2P to survive. That has nothing to do with GW2 as Its still one of the most populated mmos since it came out
Another massive drop (~25%) in revenue compared to 4q.... I wonder if that's why GW2 has been on sale so much lately and if that's why they did the whole megaserver thing...
well i believe they do just fine, but the problem with the themeparks is that their timeline is always the same, a huge start and then a continuous decline ...
i like the gameplay of GW2 and its graphics/aesthetics but i am boring to play it anymore, of my gf wasnt into playing it i would have abandoned it already ...
this is such a pointless thread.. why are people so fixated on seeing publishers fail and getting all doom and gloom and overalayzing investor reports... i mean seriously, unless you have stock in the company why would you even care.

So when it comes to SWTOR revenues SuperData is untrustworthy because only official EA numbers will be accepted.
But when VG Chartz posts GW2 box sales numbers based on estimates and wild guesses it is completely trustworthy right?

How much money did SWTOR rake in in last quarter?
VG Chartz? dude....thats the claim when you have absolutely NOTHING to back upa ANYTHING you say?
You had it backwards. it wasnt GW2 that failed miserably and:
- had to layoff 2/3 of their staff
- had to reduce servers from 216 to 17
- had to charge for free update
- had content slowed downt to galcier magnitude
- had to cut any serious development and cut spotlight of the game due to lack of people working on it
- had to call patches "expansions"
- cannot fix th engine due to lack fo people working on it
- delays everything
- calls recolored crap new content
OTOH GW2 hired people and grew to over 300 people post launch
Once more:
How much money has SWTOR "raked in" in last quarter?
you realise SWTOR raked in an obscene amount of money due to the cash shop right something like $120mil in 2013...

For example GW2 raked $112M in 2013 and those are official numbers.
Those SWTOR numbers are an estimate made by Superdata that for example is incorrect concerning Tencent games revenue compared to Tencent official numbers (underestimates) and overestimates WoW cash shop sales.

Electronic Art's Star Wars: The Old Republic, which added a free-to-play option in 2012, took the number eight spot with a little more than Team Fortress 2, and less than Blizzard's World of Warcraft, which generated $213 in microtransactions alone (not counting subscription fees).

You are kinda 2 years too late m8. lol
Still good to see GW2 going strong, it puts it No.2 game in the west (if EvE hasnt surpassed 550k subs by now)
Nice news. Release in China will certainly spice things up, it might become No.1 NCSoft game which is no small feat since it holds one of the most successful MMOs that bow only to WoW.
You are the one responsible for asserting the number 2 figure. All the subsequent argument on that made up figure would not have happened but for that assertion.
Every thing that happened subsequently in this thread was caused by you. There was absolutely no need to say that without any proof and further to cause this thread to be derailed .Want to talk about the earnings do so without the unnecessary postulation.

Cool strawman you pulled out there to expose our alls "hypocrisy". A great false dillemma between "GW2 player are all dishonest because they cite vgcharts or superdatas SWTOR estimates are true truth then either" on top of that. Wherever vgcharts suddenly came from.
That certainly counters the guy when he ask for proof after you guys keep repeating your opinion that GW2 is dying while SWTOR is even doing better as some sort of fact that can only be "denied".
Except neither superdata nor vgcharts made up sales numbers are credible and trustworthy, leave alone on equal terms with hard facts and official data about GW2 or even just endorsed and recognized by developer or publisher. Meanwhile you have just like all the other GW2 hater still not provided anything of any credibility to support your claims about SWTORs oh so upper hand or the various namless other MMOs beating it that you pretend to be facts.
First off, the majority of people are not arguing about the success of GW2, only the unfounded statement that it is the #2 MMO in the West. Second, what makes you the expert as to whether SuperData's numbers are reliable or not? They were reported on numerous gaming and tech sites. I am assuming they believe that they hold some credibility since they reported the numbers.
James T. Kirk: All she's got isn't good enough! What else ya got?
The whole objective was to bring a fight among the fans of different games which was totally unnecessary and detrimental as it shifted the focus from the earnings to fights about who is number 2. Curious lol ESO fans stayed out wisely.
I enjoyed GW 2 a lot great game for the price you pay and this could have been a smart discussion on earnings on B2P game, instead it devolved into a rubbish fight which I shamefully contributed to.
I still play GW 2 on and off it is a game I enjoy and I bear no ill will against their ability to earn and apologize for my part in this thread.
Lets get back to the point OP was trying to make - > that NCsoft and GW2 has problems . Which is obvious bullshit. Honestly 100+ mil USD per year for almost 2y old game is not what I call 'problem'. And comparing drop from Q4 (hint: Christmas) to Q1 and try to make it look like doom is either stupidity or direct attempt to start flame war (in which he succeeded ).
Another massive drop (~25%) in revenue compared to 4q.... I wonder if that's why GW2 has been on sale so much lately and if that's why they did the whole megaserver thing...

Op is the offical Gw2 hater on this forum. He creates a threat about Ncsoft earnings and how low they are, every 3 months. And Gw2 is dying like 1,5 years according to op. The most pathetic person in this forum.

Is it "obvious bullshit" to compare this quarter to the same quarter last year?
Because that represents a huge drop as well.
Also, my previous posts eliciting such angry responses was expected.
I think the old saying "the truth hurts" applies here.

It isn't apples to apples because 1Q13 had a considerable amount of box sales (~around 500K were sold between Jan 13 and Aug 13) that are a one time revenue.
2Q13 to 2Q14 will be a more accurate measure, even though in a game with no subscription is hard to say anything about population levels by just comparing revenue numbers.

Revenue isn't profit btw... and that 100mill usd per year isn't for a 2 year old game, it is for 4 quarters out of 6 aka a 1.5 year span. I wish you would look at things objectively and stop trying to skew the context all the time.
