My biggest beef with Wildstar

My biggest beef with Wildstar is that, around level 10 or so, it starts to feel as grindy as SWTOR and TSW.  Too many mobs to kill to finish a quest, TTK too long, death is not frequent, yet it is inevitable if I try to speed up the pace.  It's like being a cow in a chute.  I feel herded, managed, and the strings start to show in this particular puppet show.

 

Gripe gripe gripe, etc.  Anyone know a class/build/tip that will prevent that level 10 slowdown? 

 

Edit for anyone who reads this post and doesn't get to the end:  I was apparently having an issue with missing a good chunk of my dps by not realizing if I timed a followup to an interrupt right I'd do a lot more damage.  So maybe the slowness in this case is player error.  I certainly hope so.

    This kind of passed me by, though I don't know why.  I'm on a $400 laptop and it's still not that bad.  Once in awhile I do die to the lagbeast, but not that often.  Of course it auto-sets my graphics to minimum, that might be why.

     

    Edit: Yes I know, lag isn't the same thing, but it's what I call any slowdown, including anything you can blame on PC issues.

    I would as well like to know how it is after lvl 10

    Being with limited time to play as RL comes first..how is it?

    I would just like information/points of view of after 10.

    Ya i gave the beat a try the other day and performance was terrible to say the least. Really really laggy. I had terrible fps.

    Wildstar actually has everything I want in an MMO, but I can't play it.  The artstyle is terrible.  This coming from a guy that actually like cartoony graphics.  No matter how many times I make, and remake a character, I can never get them looking even close to something I like.  And the second they start sprinting I start wondering who was doing salvia when they programmed it.  I'm about to give up on MMO's altogether, I honestly haven't enjoyed any MMO I've tried since Vanilla WoW.  The exception to that would be Rift, which I played for about a month before quitting.

    Well I had to google salvia.  MMMM minty fresh buzz!  Going to have to try that one someday.  But anyway, back to the legal gaming addiction...nah, I don't mind the graphics.  I just mind the transparent grind.

     

    But who would have thought the humble mint family could have such interesting relatives?

    Yeah, I know.  But I hate premades.  I mean I hate them so much that running across one %50 of the time, even when it speeds leveling overall, makes it not worth bothering with.  Besides, I'm a housing nut, and housing is a huge goldsink, and PvP doesn't reward one overly richly.  Thanks for the suggestion, though.

    What you are feeling is what I call “Solo Player Sludge”.  If you noticed there were group missions (2+) scattered around the world at about the 10th level.  You may have seen other players advertising these missions looking for group members.  There were even zone triggers that suggested looking for other players and classes.   I came across a Rock formation, the game told me that Explorers were masters at finding hidden paths and that I should team up with one to get to the top, at the time I was a Scientist.

    In a group your Time To Kill will drop your Survivability, XP, and Loot will increase.  You ask If I’m making less XP and Loot per kill how will it increase?  Speed and Combined Level are the key.  Before you were slowly grinding at level.  In a group you blaze through the at level quest and start doing above level quest.  What comes with above level quest?  Higher XP, Loot, and Mobs.


    I think the Looking For Group tool was the “O” key.  Give it a try.

    Alot of red flags for me; such as:

    -Yet another cartoony attempt at cloning WoW, except even moreso

    -Stuck with 1 weapon type forever, yawn

    -Too much of spamming the same couple keys over and over, having GW2 flashbacks

    -They didn't bother to innovate at all, it's literally WoW+Tera sprinkled on

    -Quests, quests and more quests all the way to max, yawn

    -Abhorrent performance despite stone age graphics, which is the whole point for having them

    Well that's the trade off,

    If you want faster leveling then group

    If you want to play solo then enjoy the grind

    If you want to do 1 quest and ding multiple levels or just bypass the leveling and grab yourself an instant capped toon, then Wow can offer you that.

    I was rather hoping folks here at MMORPG.com could help me out with the level 10 wall of grind.  I thought maybe I missed a class/build combo, or maybe I was supposed to stop over and gear up at some point instead of just equipping whatever quest stuff came my way.

     

    Still hoping, if anyone has suggestions.

    i think the crafting trainers are level capped for the OB

    I leveled up a Spellslinger to level 15 before I decided to make a new one and not spoil anything else for myself in the game.

    I think finding a casual guild or meeting a group of players during hard quests is a good place to start.

    Unfortunately, Warplots are reserved for level 50 so you're kinda stuck with the arena and battlegrounds. Have you tried them yet?

    EDIT: I mentioned the spellslinger because I found they're combat exciting and fairly engaging.

    My three biggest issues are...
    1) one weapon choice, I love flexibility in play style with my toon, so far my fav is rifts soul system...followed by eso
    2) standard issue cookie cutter mmo questing...if I don'ttake the time to read the text quest all I have to do is follow the arrows to the area on the map hhighlighted for me and kill the mobs with the quest objective icon over their heads ore click on the object with a little gear icon...I could play this game on mute...which brings me to number three
    3) the sounds effects are god awful...why does my engineers electrocution effect sound like someone is Banff a bunch of pots and pans together? And don't get me started on that warrior SWOSH! noise

    Spellslinger?  You had good luck with that for solo leveling past lvl 8 or so?  You have my undying admiration, then.  I found it to be the most difficult by far.  Maybe I'm doing it wrong.  I dodged and kited and shimmied and possibly shamood once or twice, but mostly all I ever got was dead thanks to accidental add pulls or random high hp/high reflect/high damage mobs.

     

    Maybe I should just resign myself to Stalker.  I did pretty well with it compared to all the other classes.

    I just happened to notice this comment and I feel like I need to warn you that salvia isn't a "minty fresh buzz". Salvia isn't like pot or anything similar, it is an extremely powerful halucinogen. I've consumed both lsd and shrooms and both of those in relatively large amounts and have only tripped harder on those one time than I have EVERY time I did salvia. This isn't "oh the walls are breathing" this is "OMG MY FACE IS ON FIRE AND MELTING OFF" or "OMG THE ENTIRE WORLD IS UPSIDE DOWN AND BEING SUCKED INTO A PORTAL IN THE CORNER OF THE ROOM AND EVERYONE IS MADE OUT OF LEGOS AND ZOMBIES ARE ATTACKING US".

     

    Don't get me wrong, this isn't some sort of attempt to scare you away. I really just wanted to warn you that salvia is something you should probably "tread lightly" with and definitely respect it.

    It's probably possible to give you an ideal build, and also suggest some crafted items or a few specific rep/quest items, but then the question is how much time would it take you to round those items up? I doubt they will be all laid out and ready for you to pick up at the counter, so is it really going to save you time trying to hunt them down?, and will the build/gear combo only end up shortening things by a few minutes, I mean if it was amazing and made you a super hero then wouldn't everyone grab the same build/gear combo?

    and then of course how long before you need to do it all over again...level 16? 23?, 29? etc...

    I would think the best way would be to find out on the official forums which players are the ones who level 1-50 in 2 days, and ask them exactly how they do it.

    What you guys call grind.... others call the game....  If you dont like the fact that you need to do things to level up, i would seriously consider leaving the MMORPG genre behind and find another genre with instant battle maps but withouth leveling culture...

    Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

    I actually won't mind rounding up what I need and taking longer to do that in order to shorten the kill time.  My first MMO was Anarchy Online.  There was a ton of grind involved in avoiding grind because it was all about twinking.  And I don't mind grinding in MMOs, but if the pace of killing and questing becomes noticeably, irritatingly slow, that I do mind.

     

    Minty fresh warning heeded.  If I'm ever in Mexico, I'll tread carefully.  Although now I want to see everyone turn into Legos.  And I've always wanted to see the world burn.  Some of us just do.

    I'm staking my money that the game will drive all the instant gratification kiddies back to whatever crapfest they came from.

    I'm so happy to finally see another game after so many years where you can't get to max level in a week.

    I'm so happy to finally see another game after so many years where you can't get to max level in a week.

    If you enjoy a slower pace that's fine, no reason to be rude about it, though.  And some of us 'instant gratification kiddies' might just prefer a snappier pace because:

     

    1.  We've been playing MMOs longer than you've been alive and certain things just don't need to be dragged out.  Like your basic quest leveling.

     

    2.  Some of us are so old that we have fewer years left than we've lived and therefore time might just be a tad bit more precious than it is to you.

     

    3.  Get off my lawn!

    This wasn't because of the cap.  This happened in the first boxes just below the Novice Outfitter.  I was able to switch to Architect and complete all four of the equivalent first four boxes.
