I just feel the need to express my hatred for the land ownership in this game, I hate it so much...I enjoy the crafting aspect of this game and to craft you're more than likely going to need a farm, and the bigger the farm the better. Sadly people like myself who didn't jump to level 50 within 5 days of playing we have nowhere to plot anything!
This games landmass is huge, there are so many places I find that have no mobs, that are convenient and could be great housing/farming plots and what are they used for....nothing not even traversed while questing just empty land that could be put to good use and with tons left over.
There is a plus side to the land being completely full, even in the PVP areas where people insist I look (I have, they're full too, I got ganked a lot lol) anyways the fact that the plot can be demolished if not used is a good idea but you have to wait a while, like if you're tired of questing and want to do some farming on your nice big farm you've acquired you'll have to wait three days and hope the space that's getting demolished soon doesn't get grabbed first or you're gonna have to wait another day or two for another. I'm so tired of quests it's driving me crazy because that's all I feel like I can do right now in this game because I can't get any materials that I want to farm in a reasonable enough time without a large farm.
The last thing that bothers me is running around looking for spaces to plop my plots and seeing tons and tons of empty farms that have no use because the people paying taxes on them aren't using them, just leaving them there, and yeah sometimes you will go a while without farming if you're busy doing something else, but I've seen the same empty farm, day after day after day after day, and it's being paid for......WHY? JUST WHY? This is more confusing to me than the gankers in this game, which I don't mind because they're in every game, but why are you wasting gold on taxes for a farm you don't use?
All in all the game is great, amazing fun, but there are a lot of downsides to it and I'm not sure how it's going to be when it gets released and a shitload of people come pouring in, yeah there will be more servers but......I would say don't spend $150 on this and wait until release or buy they beta pack, because right now you won't have any fun with this.

errr 1 overloaded alpha server.. and there is more land they will be opening ..
At launch it wont be like this...
Yes the land system sucks greasy balls right now but each continent is currently missing a bunch of areas that we can't access and will all include more areas for land.
Also there is only 1 server for the thousands of players and their alts playing this game right now.

Do they do like UO does and only 1 house per account ??
I imagine kinda moot in a f2p game but still.....
I think you can have multiple houses but the taxes go up to insane amounts. Most people stick with one house and one farm.

Personally, i have great fun with it and I'm glad i paid for it. I was reluctant at first but when i started playing holy shit it was fun.
And ranting about a housing problem on an alpha server when it is clearly over populated....
It won't be different at release. Land will be swallowed up quickly. They will eventually add more available land from what I hear but I don't doubt the available land will go quickly (even though you'll need Patron status for it).
Just my thought.
If people can't get land they wont sub. I can't see that happening in a f2p game.
I said the same a week or two ago.
What I'm more impressed with is the amount of people capable of fitting in one server...unlike some games I've played where if you let out a fart (cap of 100 people or so) in one of its "zones" you get put into a copy of that place.
the draw back with that though. is only a certain # of people will load on your screen at once (currently capped at 100) so in a big battle sometimes you cant even see your enemy before you get 1shot.
They should change that ish, for people with more than capable system (may or may not work though). I remember TERA utterly sucking in that part during nexus events, regardless of my settings.
The cap is 200, you can set the cap yourself from 50 to 200.
The cap is 200 but it`s locked at 100 for the time being.
yea, totaly not... (giggles)

Whisper the owners of these unusued scarecrows and offer them money for the plot.
There is a real estate market in this game; not everyone claims land for themselves.
Which is why I'm confident this problem won't exist by launch. Sounds like land is their money maker. I feel bad for people who paid $150 to get into this game and now have no place to call home, though. I'm happy to wait for open beta or launch.
I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals.

I would agree in a way, but I think the problem will still exist a month or so after launch. The real problem is that alts can reserve land as well. Yes, there is a tax price for each farm, but it's easy enough to make gold in the game to cover this. So we have the current situation in Alpha were there are massive amounts of empty farms, taken up by squatters. For the alpha it's a real game-killer and I would advise people still considering buying into the Alpha to stay away. You'll quickly end up in the frustrating situation of not being able to farm, and that sucks. I took my time in the beginning and pay for it now as there's nowhere to place a large farm. So.... in a game I was otherwise loving, I'm now feeling pretty frustrated to have my farming halted.
It's a great game, but they need to address this. I would suggest that they limit the max number of farms to 1 small 1 large per account, for the first few months after release.
Since housing is very important to me I am really going to be watching how this develops as it gets closer to launch. I am rather worried I may not be able to do the thing I want most to do in this game.
The people that aren't able to find a housing spot are the people who don't really care that much about it. I'm sure there will also be multiple servers. Panicking about not being able to get a house when that is what you care about most is ridiculous. It will be easily doable.
I don't know why this is a bad thing. It must be the casual gamers attacking again lol, so what you want is a game where every one is ensured of a nice house and land. If they fix it as you say I am not playing. There shouldn't be enough land for every one to buy a large farm, only the rich and dedicated should get one. If they do what you say there will be no market, not to mention if there is so much land there is no feeling of power, and prestige of owning a huge plot of land. Sounds just like uo, and real life if you want a huge castle, or a hundred acre working farm, you gotta earn it. Not just well I guess we should open up ten thousand acres of state land, and split it up equally among every one. That sounds stupid to me, and if they do that I am not playing.
It should be like rl and uo, only a few people should have castles and 100 1000 acre farms. And the most people should live in smaller houses or apartments. I don't even know how you would buy a game claiming to be a sand box, and expect a housing system like wild star where every one can have a house and farm.
What ppl are concerned with is getting at least a simple plot of land. Everyone should be able to at least attain that !....something to make the game at least enjoyable.
Possibly, Alpha testers will know all the tricks and exploit them, others would like to casually get to the point of wonting a plot of land with out rushing RIGHT TOO IT, some would like to learn the game and enjoy it first ....this is what people are worried about
Yeah, it seems like they need to tweak the mechanics somewhat so you can't keep an abandoned farm as long as you just pay the tax. Changing the mechanics for it should be easy so write your experience on the beta forum.
It is after all to make the game better at launch you have a beta in the first place.
