- I'm not knocking Asian games, But because it's not a western mmo, developers (Trion ) will have to take a back seat on updating the game to cater to our players.
- F2P simply scares players......Sure, many here are looking for a free game. But the serious ones that are looking for a long awaited mmo that could be played for years and call it home COULD possibly be in for a let down no matter how good this mmo is.......I understand that they will have a sub option too. But the F2P option could have bad effects.....F2P knocks it down a few pegs from being a long standing game.
Here is a good example :
Say YOU at a personal level love the game, your making all kinds of friends, you belong to that perfect guild. Yet you friends are always leaving because it's free to play.
I just wish we had a long awaited full, rich sandbox mmo that we can call our own.
Comments
Why would your friends leave because it is F2P?
They can stay forever and not cost them a penny.
no it couldnt.. not enough end game content for 1, it's been out for 2 years in korea and still not enough end game content, PvP ends up being 1 sided due to faction imbalance as par whats happened on korean servers which has lead to many people to stop playing... and you cant compete with WoW's many years of content.
stop using this term, WoW killer is stupid and this game sure as shit has no shot.
Edit - and as much as i find rift enjoyable, trion had their shot they didnt kill WoW, and AA is not a "feature rich" sandbox.. it's a watered down themebox
I get what your saying OP, however my theory is this..
WoW came in at the right time and right place, honestly, I still believe WoW to be a anomaly in mmo history and will go down that way in my book. I don't see any other mmorpg to topple that unless the new mmorpg that would be classified as a WoW killer has something new and innovating that can draw the WoW masses away from their mmo to the new mmo.
Possible VR mmorpg's with total interaction and immersion into the game, then I can see WoWs millions subs being easily toppled.
Yup. WoW is big because it came out at the right time. When MMO's were being discovered. Before WoW no one knew that you could play with thousands of people in a huge seamless fantasy world.
ArcheAge will be a griefer's paradise. I don't see this attracting the numbers of WoW once the larger PvE population understands this.
I think it is because too many f2p means gamer's are game hopping all over the place never calling one home.Actually buying and subbing is like an investment, one that usually means the player is there for a long haul.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
so say we all
no
Unfortunately, I did let you finish, and body of the post was even more ridiculous than the subject line.
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein
"Graphics are often supplied by Engines that (some) MMORPG's are built in" - Spuffyre
Don't need to because I somewhat agree with you.
I had a taste of Archeage before the 1.0 patch by playing the Japanese version. The game was amazing. in the last 3 weeks since the update the playerbase has dropped a LOT. The changes are horrible and has created a P2W environment. While the company stated they are still working on what they can remove to fit the Japanese market everyone knows by the time they can do it the game will be devoid of players because these types of games are hated in Japan. MMOs are either subscription or they are F2P with cosmetics only, a single P2W item in the shop and it loses too many players to survive for long.
And 1.0 is just the FIRST update for the game for the western market, its all downhill from here and Trion can try all they like to keep the game as non P2W as they want (though that is a total fail already) and keep it as sandboxy as they want, it wont make a difference to XL Games because they want a western market. So, more themepark, less FFA. It will slowly bleed into Trions game and the more they try to take out, the longer players will go between updates. XL will have to make them, and then Trion will have to redo it.
It was a great game when it was a subscription game.
In a way it still is a subscription game, with no box; as playing without owning a house and farm is like playing a totally different game.
Which has nothing at all to do with what I said.
And no, still having a subscription does not make it a subscription game. If it has F2P options that makes it a Freemium game and if there are items in the cash shop that gives you an advantage over others, its P2W.
WOW fanboy
Wait...you mean that after Rift Trion would have even another WoW killer at hand?
Can anyone give an example of a game that now has less people playing because it went free to play ? Not sure how anyone could say f2p scares people. Maybe "it scares bitter old vets that only play p2p "would be more accurate.
This games launch will be big, but when the ganking starts the people who started playing the game because it looks awesome are going to get a reminder of why they don't play games like this.
not less peoples but more troll
Pointed out the fact. AA will be successful despite the 1.0 "sandpark" patch which will then open up AA for more players along side the hardcore minded. But still WoW caters to a wide range of players which AA simply does not. it would never kill WoW.
Boobs are LIFE, Boobs are LOVE, Boobs are JUSTICE, Boobs are mankind's HOPES and DREAMS. People who complain about boobs have lost their humanity.
Do people ever remember a game is designed how the devs intended instead of how they imagined it to be ? ( eso anyone ? )
I wish Trion would make sub only server.
For a start its will be full of real people and not F2P AFKers(in case you didnt know AA has not got afk-kick system) restoring Job points.

Again people make 1 big mistake.....
Archeage is a sub based mmo with a gimped free to play unlimited trial to max level.
There is a diffrence then say a free to play mmo with 90% of their stuff behind a cash shop.
Now thats out of the way !
Archeage might be one hell of a sleeping giant of Trion keeps the sandbox elements and kicks down most of the horrible 1.0 features and changes, and so far they are doing just that
Still people will be turned off by a openworld pvp centric mmo.
But there are tons of themepark mmo for them to choose from.
Still i think many die hard themepark players are bored with those mmo's and might need some extra spice as Archage seems to do a risk versus reward realy well.
And what is more fun then a full pve guild assisting each other to get those tradepacks across the ocean while feeling the heat from pirates in their neck ?
Archage is not for the lonewolf.....it should never make adjustments to cater to these kind of players.
And it seems from alpha feedback that this mmo is catering to all kinds of players who focus on playing with friends / guilds / raids !
So far i like everything i have seen about this.
But a wow killer ? people should stop using it as we do not have any numbers about how many EU / USA players wow currently has....
Most wow players come from Asia who play in netcafe's and pay 3 cent per hour....
Not realy a subsciption but still gets counted as if they pay 15 dollar / 12 euro.
Very misleading from blizzard.
But Archeage can certainly be the surpise mmo of 2014 !
And who knows where it ends
f2p isn't the issue. Players still hopped around games back when WoW came out, DAoC was around and EQ was still going strong. Guilds would drop like flies in all 3 games. Some because it wasn't uber enough, others because they were going back to their old games/new games.
The problem is an over saturated market with no real stand out games. WoW came out at the right time and place because it hit in a time where there were only a couple of choices and offered things the other games don't. Now, instead of having 3-5 choices, 2 of which had the same basic elements and the others were all different, we have 100 of the "same clone" all trying to be wow killers by being copies of wow, meanwhile they forget what brought people to wow was being different in scope then EQ and DAoC both the big hitters at the time.
If people want to be the WoW killer, they need to stop trying to copy it and trying to emulate a game that was released at the perfect time, and now has ten years of content to back up the timing. People are going to stop playing Archeage not because its f2p or patron only housing, but because the game tries to do both themepark and sandpark and doesn't do either very good in the end. It's why you never try to cater to everyone because in the end no one wants to play it.
The people that are trying to make the world worse never take a day off , why should I. Light up the darkness Bob Marley
I have a feeling that AA never could kill Wow because I think most of the players sticking to Wow just wont enjoy AAs type of gameplay.
F2P is hardly an issue here, games like Perfect world actually have more players than Wow (yeah, I actually count people from China as players).
AA do have some potential but just like Eve it attracts a different crowd than Wow. Exactly how well it will do is something we have to wait a few months after release to see....
