You are paying to alpha test!

VorthanionVorthanion Member RarePosts: 2,749

I paid for the collector's edition of Archeage, which gave me access to the alpha test phase.  After a couple of weeks of testing and playing, I have decided the game is not for me and I tried to cancel my pre-order.  I received this response:

Excuse me, since when has alpha testing been considered the same as playing during release of a MMO? The game has not released yet and I have been helping to test your game. I've been able to cancel pre-orders for games in their beta stage, including the most recent release of Elder Scrolls Online. I find your response both incomprehensible and frankly, insulting. I guess the rumors flying around the web that you're selling Alpha access, not a collector's edition are true.

I am really disappointed in Trion Worlds.  I truly thought they were a top notch company.

Nop. You paid for the archeum founder pack, which gave you alpha access. That is in no way a CE edition, where did you even read it?

Next time google a bit before buying something.

I think it's working as designed, as mentioned, you paid to have access to the alpha environment, they provided you access to it, contract confirmed and deal complete.

You enjoying the game is actually not part of the deal, strangely enough, and these are not trials that you decide to pay for after you do them.

I suspect very quickly publishers are going to put a halt to refunding people just because they didn't enjoy the game.

My bad, I bought the ARCHEUM FOUNDER’S PACK.  It changes nothing about how I feel about their decision.  The alpha access was only one of the many benefits of the pack and people have been defending this company, stating that the pack is not a paid alpha scam and they are obviously wrong or deluded or lying.

Isn't that one of the benefits of a supposed F2P game, the ability to test it out first?

If getting your money back after playing in Alpha was a possiblity, everyone would do it.  It doesn't make sense to offer Alpha access and refunds.

People who want to test a F2P game wait for release.  People who want to test a B2P game wait for open beta.  You're committed if you buy a founders pack once you use the code, non refundable.  Pretty standard policy.

    No bitchers.

OP, stop responding to posts and edit out your personal info. There's enough there for someone to make your life very much a misery from the yacht that they bought with your financial details.

Well, having taken a peek myself, maybe more of a dinghy than a yacht ;)

You haven't bought the game to try it out, you have bought the game. Actually you bought access to a f2p game.

If you weren't awere of these things the fault is yours for not informing yourself.

The game was not for you? Then do you dump 150$ to try games out and then expect to get a refund everytime because you might not like the game? Well now you know that it's not a good move.

If they did it for you, this would set a dangerous precedent. Now suddenly everyone will just pay $150 to try it out for a month then ask for a refund once their done and wait for launch.

Alpha access was one of your perks, you used that perk, now you want to change your mind? Sorry, they have every right to say no.

If alpha testing was such a "job" why would you even pay $150 to access it?

The game was F2P until you spent money on it... at that point it wasn't free to play.  You paid to get access to the game before everyone else... had you waited for it to get released, it would have been free to play.  You could have tried it out, for free.  No loss no foul.  Anything you buy in a F2P game is a done deal.  You are going out of your way to buy something that no one else has to.  That's the difference here.  Had you never logged into the game, you might have gotten a refund, but you played it... which is exactly what you paid for, the opportunity to play it early.

If you use the dinghy for a few weeks and don't like it can you try for a refund or is that just with video games?

Thanks for giving us all a good laugh. It seems you not only didn't read what you were buying but even think you can just change your mind in the blink of an eye like it never happened. Real life isn't like that.

If you bring it up with your credit card company or debit through your bank (assuming you paid that way), you might be able to get a chargeback, depending on what country you live in.

However, if you do this, you will likely never again be able to do business with Trion.

If you were unsure about the game you could have waited and tested the game out during the F2P part.

You essentially decided to buy the game early, played it and didnt like it.

Thats the same as trying any game out and not liking it. You dont get yoru money back just because you dont like a game. Ask gamestop if you can buy a game play it and then return it. They will say no, unless its a used game they do allow that actually, but thats pretty much trying it out during the F2P part. You choose to buy it new and upset you dont like it. [mod edit]

They should have given a refund honestly.

On the ESO boards a person claimed to have gotten a refund after playing for many many many hours post release. Selling alpha access then not allowing a refund is underhanded.

Contact your bank or credit card company and get the refund that way.

Hey Michael Sean Stuermer,   how ya doin? You told Trion that you have returned or canceled your preorders in the past? Big red flag there bud; it makes you look like you preorder merely to test the game, and then plan to quit it anyway. I would have refused you also, and I am a very customer service oriented worker-bee. Please go back to playing console games as the MMO genre is clearly not for you.

Your the one that paid for it.....now eat the bullet. And and thanks for making them richer.

Should never pay for alpha or beta access on a FREE TO PLAY game.

If it was that easy why would anyone not ask for a refund and just pick the game back up at launch for free ?

If you really don't care about playing ArcheAge ever on that account just do a charge back on your credit card and you'll get your money back and have your account banned.

I don't see any problem with them not offering refunds though.  Steam will never refund anything.  Buy a game.  Goes on sale 5 seconds later and ask them for the sale price?  They'll tell you to go fuck yourself.

lol because when you do a charge back with your bank or CC company the game company will ban your account.......  That's the way it has always worked.
