I'm out here without a mmo to play for some time now, since i've heard about archeage (years ago) i got interested and now we all got the chance to play it, but the money asked is quite high.
For you guys that were anticipating it and dropped the money, are you enjoying it ? Is it worth to put the effort into the game even with wipes before release ?

My opinion is that that is the wrong question to ask. I have explained it in the past and when you are interested I wil explain it again, but you should never ever pre-order a game and certainly not pay for early access or the right to play alpha or beta phases of a game.
On the other hand you can consider this game to be released already, since they are asking money for a bag of goodies which includes the right to play now. So you could argue the game is released, except they are gonna force you to start all over again at some date that they will call release date. If you believe it is ok to support such behaviour by a publisher, the question remains whether it is worth the price tag, which you are now asking the impatient fools that do support such practices.
It takes one to know one.
I almost agree with you, but maybe they aint no fools... they just don't care at all, they have the money and they have no statement to make all they care is to play the game they were hyped to play. I do agree that early access and paid beta is bad practice and we should avoid it, but this game is long released in the west, is a solid product already, they are testing localization and translations now, right ? The wipe is the most concerning issue, imo.
The mmo market is so stale right now that i'm willing to go the paid beta route to have some different experience. The question still remains, though. Is it worth it ?
it's worth it if:
A, you are a laid back individual who is not going to go running to the forums posting your displeasure at spending $150 on something where you find things you are unhappy about.
B, It is worth it if you are excited about the features they describe but not what you have imagined in your head after you read about those features.
C, It is worth it if you enjoy crafting or pvp and want something where there is more to do than just questing.
D, It is worth it if you understand that you are paying for the subscription up front as this game will have a subscription. It is also worth it if the things you get for your money are worth it to you. If you are paying this money "just to play" and see the game then I highly advise against it unless you are "A" above.
E, It is worth it if you like traditonial quests OR if you can pull yourself away from the traditional quests and do other things. If you are a person who can't find your own path, hates traditional kill x quests but can only follow those quests as they lead you along then you are "going to have a bad time".
F, It is worth it if are not bothered by the art style. or the music. I personally turned off the music as some of it is grating to my tastes. I hate the mish mash art style but was convinced to try the game because of a video made by one of the forum members. I felt he had compelling things to say about the game and felt I could put my dislikes aside to embrace the main features of the game.
It is worth it if you can drop $150.00 and not be bothered by it if you hate the game. If you are scrapign together $150.00 just to "play" then I advise against it.
It is also worth it if you understand that you won't keep your progress and can accept it.

Thanks ! very hepful !
I though there were cheaper packs already, i surely won't drop $150. I just can't right now hehe.
Losing progress is not a problem if the experience is good and not a grind.... If the leveling process is always the same than wipes can be troublesome.
I guess i'll wait for the release or at least a beta without wipes. Do you know a timeframe for any of those ?
He said that that.
I picked this up a few days ago due to some of the posters who have been around this place for years, and whose opinions I actually respect, were giving it some praise. To let you in a little on my mindset with MMOs in general, I've been playing SWG for the last few months as I don't believe there is much more out there worth my time. Got into the ESO beta and determined it was the same old stuff in a different wrapper. Prior to that Darkfall was my game of choice, plenty of issues but decent for what it is. Have a key for EQ Landmark and can't get past those stylized graphics so it remains unused (no you can't have it)
Having said that, AA is a lot of the same old stuff in a different wrapper. Tab target, big question marks over quest givers heads, go kill "X" of "Y" and bring me their "Z". The difference is they combined the likable things from a lot of MMOs over the years, added a few new ideas and made it their own. It doesn't feel as linear as most MMOs out there in many areas of gameplay I experienced (not many areas to be honest).
The class system is nice as you can actually combine three of ten classes to make your character your own. Each class has abilities that you can select or not to make it how you want it. It feels like you have a lot of choice which direction you want to take your character.
I set up a small farm and determined it was a whole new can of worms. The number of things you can grow or raise is truly impressive. The mechanics are also impressive as it seems you actually have to water plants, feed live stock and care for your farm a bit. The crafting also seem pretty robust compared to other systems due to number of skills and the variety of thing you can craft. Again, feels like another can of worms I have not really opened yet.
I guess there seems like so many different things you can do in the game. On the whole I have no idea what I'm doing and that's a good thing. Most MMOs I have played copy the WoW formula in every respect and you know what to do prior to playing the game. AA deviates from that in many areas. Combine that with realistic type graphics, an open world, ships, flying and PvP and it's a pretty nice package thus far.
As always time will tell. On the $150 entrance fee, it is my understanding that half of it you get back in store credit. Don't know what the store sells but it lessened the pain of the initial cost in my mind. Add that to a 3 month sub included and I could justify the cost.
I'm having a good time in AA and am certain I havn't really scratched the surface. Looking forward to playing some when I get home. I did just start so my opinion should really be taken lightly.

Thats good ! you have mmo taste similar to mine, good to see you are enjoying it. I also played darkfall but i missed the SWG train.
Yeah, finally something different enough with AAA quality in the MMO market. EQ Next can't release soon enough either.
I can't say. If they do then that's good. Look into it as long as you feel you can get something out of the experience.

Here's my advice based on what the community manager (Scapes) has said in their weekly stream of game features. The Archeum Founder's pack which costs $150 and comes with alpha access. Don't buy it simply because you want to play the game right now in alpha. Pretend that's not even in the bundle. If you can weigh all that the bundle offers you (which is above $150 in actual value post-launch) and it's something you want while saving money to acquire it. THEN buy the Archeum pack. Do not buy it simply for the Alpha access as that was just thrown in there as a bonus. While it may suck that there's a wipe once the game launches and they bring down the alpha server. Keep in mind all of those people will have learned the ins-and-outs of the game. They will have already made the common mistakes and learned where to find things and how to get stuff done faster. So when the servers reset and open for early access for all the founder's. They'll be running a head start on a game where real estate is limited, as are some of the spawns for the mid-high level bounty quests. These are mobs which take a small group and have a one hour or more respawn time. There's other features as well which are a first come first serve basis. So getting alpha/beta access has it's own value due to attaining this knowledge. It can't be quantified since what you learn for launch varies on the person/guild.
Hope my long advice helps.
I've played Alpha since the packs were released and had a ton of fun, but I would strongly recommend waiting now. Beta is supposedly just around the corner, and it's a hell of a lot of cash to buy in and not get the benefit of the Alpha play time.
Really great game though! Can't wait for it to go live.
Your not asking the right question. The question is do I think the game is worth $150. An objects value is only worth what the buyer thinks it to be worth. No other person can answer that question for you. Just check out Kickstarter a perfect example. Some people find $10 to be an acceptable price for a game, some people think $2000 is. Both people are right, the $10 person is getting the same game as the $2000 person, both feel like they spent as much as they valued the object.
I agree with the points Sovrath made and personally, am completely happy that the $150 I paid for the Archeum pack has been worth it.
I'll just add that any progress made in Alpha probably won't be wiped as that server is set to become the test server at launch. It's not guaranteed though. However, if you get in the beta phases, they will be on a new set of servers and we have been told there will not be any server wipes until launch at which point the beta servers will become the live ones. Unlike Alpha, Beta will not be running 24/7 but is due to be rolled out in a series of "events" lasting 3 to 5 days at a time. All progress will be carried over from each event to the next though.
Now this here kind of gets me mad.........This sounds like a hostage situation !....It sounds like you better pay $150 or every one else will be screwed when the game goes live.
Big loss in credibility !
You know what else lingers in the back of my mind ?
The Archeum Pack ( cash grab ), you get $75 in cash shop money. It makes the game sound like all others will need to pay $75 in real money and the cash shop is very important.
When people say the game is fun. I believe them. However I don't have ANY FAITH IN THE MARKETING.
OP you can still play on the russian servers follwing a simple guide.
Altough the style of play is severely limited by what you can do as labor points regen so slow that crafting is almost imposible unless you regen it for a week with your pc on 24/7.
But ! you can get a general idea of how the game looks and feels with diffrent classes.
With the english patch installed its almost a full english game so navigation is realy easy.
Played up to level 30 and waiting for its release now on EU.
Loved every minute of it
Give it a try and google Archeage russia english patch so get yourself started, it takes 1 hour to set all stuff up including the download of the client if you have a decent speed.
This.
And plz, for those who didnt buy any pack yet dont do it untill Trion give us real news about Beta.
If they keep selling packs every week, im sure they will push the timeline a little further and we keep in darkness about real news: beta dates, beta info, release inffo, etc.
I'm not sure how true this is anymore. I tried for a few hours to get a russion account using the youtube guides and they successfully redirected every regional proxy I tried.
i made up my mind.
$150 is a steep price for an alpha indeed. It doesn't matter if the game is good or bad. No game is worth $150 without being even released !
What someone said before is so true, as long as people keep paying $150 for alpha they will never move on since beta packs are cheaper.
I'm very interested in Archeage, but i will wait untill release or an open beta !
Thanks for the RU server tip, but i wont go through the hassle... i rather wait and have the proper experience.
Before or after the pre-ordering went public?
It takes one to know one.
Game is not even worth Followed it since official Xlgames CBT and was hyped until released in Russia .
Then after 1 or 2 years of hype I played game for 30 min and quit ....
