as for the OPs question ill repost what I said in another thread on the same topic
if you are someone that $150 is a lot of money i'd say just wait.. if $150 is whatever i'd say go for it.. even when beta goes live it will only be couple days here and there while alpha will be up almost 24/7.. I look at it like this two regular games cost me $60 generally i usually only get 50-100 hours max from a single player game unless its an RPG I may get little more but usually not.. plenty i have bought lasted me 10 hours.. you could easily get thousands of hours from AA if you get into the world and the PVP and join a good guild so it's really what value you want to put on your time and how bored you are :P
Also land is really hard to find in alpha right now.. come launch it shouldn't be a huge problem since my guess is a decent % of people on each server will be F2P players but on alpha everyone can buy land so it's a bit saturated and all the plots are pretty much taken so you gotta camp plots that are expiring.

I thought beta starts in a month, so $150 for a few weeks would not be worth it IMHO.

yea but beta will not be full time beta it will be couple day events... alpha servers will be up almost 24/7 so it's still worth it if you want more time to play
since i played RU version of archeage i already know the game will fail, also how the glypt run to pay money before even trying game is just making it worse.
RU version:
Full of botters, macros and compleat broken systems whos easily abused.
what will happend to glypt too, pretty easy to see they trying to milk as much money as they can before game goes live since they not giving out free keys anymore, just ask for money to even let people try game.
If i were you dont even bother spend a cent before you try, in beta you wont know the darkness the game contain before games go live and it get overfloaded with abuses and bots. (right now glypt walk exactly same way as RU version)
oh and I posted this in another thread but the joys of making your first ship with a bunch of friends and going out for your first voyage.. very few MMOs i have ever played offered such a great experience
The Alpha server is currently at 3X capacity, and sometimes the lag is horrible. Paying 150 bucks to get into alpha is not a good purchase currently as you get nothing for your money except a game to play. You have to return your computer to it's original spec's to get in to play a DX9C game. DX11 is spotty, although some claim to be using it.
AA shows that the Koreans have very strange views on land and housing, since there is a cap to the number of Homes/Farms that are allowed per server. Currently, gold spammers are going full blast, as well as bot's galore.
Trion is using Hackshield in AA - A useless Korean program that doesn't live up to it's hype.
Founders Packs are still being sold even though IMHO the Alpha Server is overloaded. They are ALSO still giving away free keys to play the Alpha mess.
Players in this game are almost Mushrooms - Kept in the dark. We don't get fed. There doesn't seem to be any focus by the translator of this Korean game at keeping the Customers(Players) informed of developments. We get nothing from them.
Forget the video's Trion has posted; They showed an empty world before they started selling the founders packs. If you want to place a farm or a house be prepared to spend upwards of 200 gold for it. This is why the gold spammers are making a ton of money in an ALPHA game.
Supposedly the Alpha server will be down during the Beta phase. Also, supposedly the Beta will run during the weekend only. After Beta is done for that weekend, the Alpha server will restart.
After the game finally goes live the Alpha server is supposed to become the Test Server.
nope this game was a failure in asian markets, wait on it
a lot of the features this game has already are in wage of wushu, this is just a rehash of that. the model never works
ive watched people play this game like over a year ago, i doubt theyve done anything but localize the game and extremely outdated patches
Cant say comparing it to the eastern versions is any fair as so far everythings been westernised very well .. and outdated patches will only happen because they will first adjust things to fit our needs instead of the other versions.
Comparing it to Age of Wushu is bullshit as imo Snail is just an ordinary company bringing enough p2w games to the market to maintain themselfs... they dont give a fuck about the community. While if you look at how Trion has handled their games and other games under their hand .... i do have ALOT more trust in them then most other publishers for sure.
Well, outside of the technical issues and looking at it from an outside perspective the Gold package looks like a better deal than the Alpha access. The primary reason being that even if you start in alpha, you lose everything eventually because of having to inevitably move to the live servers once the game gets to open beta / release. Also, the game is free to try more than free to play as players need to have patron status to make use of certain key systems, such as land ownership and a reasonable recharge time on labor. You get some patron time as part of the founders packs, but once that time runs out you do need to be prepared to shell out money for more patron status.
That being said, this does look to be a rather interesting game. The systems such as the trade runs and housing, remind me a bit of a fantasy version of Oregon Trail with PvP thrown in the mix. It's definitely different than a lot of other MMOs out right now.
The Alpha server is currently at 3X capacity, and sometimes the lag is horrible. (But most times it is not) Paying 150 bucks to get into alpha is not a good purchase currently as you get nothing for your money except a game to play. (Totally free for the current time, early access to 1.2, plus access to all betas, cool gear skins, 3 months patron status, a glider and 75.00 store cash, likely permanent test server characters/assets but outside of that, nothing.) You have to return your computer to it's original spec's to get in to play a DX9C game. DX11 is spotty, although some claim to be using it. (Working pretty well in DX11 for me, though there are a few odd graphic patches here in there, with some glitching in forests and some very weird grassy areas, they look foggy almost)
You can view the glass as half full or half empty, you choose your happiness level
AA shows that the Koreans have very strange views on land and housing, since there is a cap to the number of Homes/Farms that are allowed per server. (Not strange, they want players to compete for resources such as land by making them scarce. Ideally we should be fighting for them, not just placing our farms in safety) Currently, gold spammers are going full blast, as well as bot's galore. (Define spamming full blast, yes, I have to put on ignore 1 or 2 in a play session, is that excessive, I don't know. Really haven't run into a lot of bots either)
Trion is using Hackshield in AA - A useless Korean program that doesn't live up to it's hype.
Founders Packs are still being sold even though IMHO the Alpha Server is overloaded. They are ALSO still giving away free keys to play the Alpha mess. (You do realize a lot of players have stopped playing, because they are waiting for launch. As such the world is getting much more empty, rolled several alts this week and starter zones were not overcrowded at all, and in fact I was able to place 2 starter farms next to each other in one of the early zones with little effort. If I had a 3rd farm, I could have placed it there as well. So no real issue accomodating other players)
Players in this game are almost Mushrooms - Kept in the dark. We don't get fed. There doesn't seem to be any focus by the translator of this Korean game at keeping the Customers(Players) informed of developments. We get nothing from them. (Tis true, information could be a bit more freely shared, but hey, I joined a MMORPG, not a reading club or library)
Forget the video's Trion has posted; They showed an empty world before they started selling the founders packs. If you want to place a farm or a house be prepared to spend upwards of 200 gold for it. This is why the gold spammers are making a ton of money in an ALPHA game. (There are other ways, my guildmates routinely camp for and obtain land for medium and large farms and they have farms almost everywhere, some are managing 4 farms right now. None using purchased gold)
Supposedly the Alpha server will be down during the Beta phase. Also, supposedly the Beta will run during the weekend only. After Beta is done for that weekend, the Alpha server will restart.
After the game finally goes live the Alpha server is supposed to become the Test Server.
Alpha is what you make of it. My guild seems to be full of people very happy with the current game play, and are eagerly awaiting the changes. Every day brings new experiences and most would say the money was well spent.
But only you can decide what is worthwhile or too aggravating to ignore.

You get some patron time as part of the founders packs, but once that time runs out you do need to be prepared to shell out money for more patron status.
This is precisely why the Archeum package is worth it:
For $150 you get:
90 days (3 months) of patron status, worth $45.
11,250 credits to use in the game, worth $75.
$75+$45=$120.
The rest of the items + alpha access are definitely worth the remaining $30.
Before you buy the game don't assume things too much and take what people say here with a grain of salt, myself included, because you get a lot of fanbois on these forums and social media sites like youtube who hype things up like the game is the second coming of jesus and say things that are necessarily not true. IE "Sovrath" claiming the game is purely subscription based when it's already been stated by Trion along time ago the game will be doing the rift approach and be free-to-play for people who don't want to pay a sub fee while giving others who want Patron subscriptions and Buyable passes on the market for people who want to unlock the ability to build houses and own land. But the game will be accessible and playable by anyone regardless if they pay for the game or not. So yes the game will be "F2P" That's the "F2P" part of it. The subscription part of it is if you want everything unlocked. Kind of similar to SWTOR but Archages F2P system "I hope" won't be as limited and terribly run as what EA/BIoware have done and milk you out of your money even more on top of having to pay a sub then realizing you have to pay more money to unlock other things in the game to progress.
That being said. I've bought the 150$ and been playing it. This is coming from someone who really loved SWG PRE CU / PRE NGE and loved these types of sandboxy, crafting, building pve/pvp games. IMO It's an "Ok" game but it isn't the second coming of jesus what a lot of casual gamers and younger people in their 20's and teens claim it is. I imagine this is very new to them and granted there are some interesting features in the game. It's really not what some people assume the game is. It's definitely more in-depth with much more features then most mmorpg's, but I don't think it really takes much anymore for any rpg to be considered in-depth, because of all the dumbed down mmorpgs that have been around for the last 12 years.
The character creation although looks in-depth, it really isn't at all. EvE online and ESO have much more in-depth character creation then Archage does. The other thing that I really didn't care for very much was that Tailoring and Leatherworking don't start really until you are lvl 20+ because the armors and cloths you can craft are all 20+. There is also not very many Leatherworking recipes right now and maybe they will add more. I don't know. I don't really care either. Other than those two things that I don't like and maybe the lack of translation? and old questing "go here, do that"? But that is nothing because it will take the developers time to translate the game and I certainly don't think you can fault them for an "Alpha" based MMORPG all these things are to be expected and something I've learned to just live with while playing anything just released or in working progress for any pc game, especially one that promotes a lot of features.
I will say other then the 2 things I didn't like, the rest of the game is very well done. It's a "good", "ok" game. I think it probably will be the best f2p game on the market, it certainly offers a lot more then Rift or SWTOR. But thats just me and I can't say your going to really like it or not. If people here want to argue with me not really liking having to wait till lvl 20 to make leather armor or tailor my cloth stuff I really dont care and probably won't even read the comments because I have better things too do with my time then argue with people on a games forum about pointless stuff. I'm just letting you know what I thought to give you an idea what you may expect or not, but we all have tastes in what we like and don't like. I'de say go for it, but just be mindful how much your paying too. I hate to see people waste their money on something they assume is going to be great but then realize it wasn't what they were expecting.. I don't know call me an empathic gamer that cares for others I guess?
I'm out here without a mmo to play for some time now, since i've heard about archeage (years ago) i got interested and now we all got the chance to play it, but the money asked is quite high.
For you guys that were anticipating it and dropped the money, are you enjoying it ? Is it worth to put the effort into the game even with wipes before release ?
I dont think 150 bucks is worth any alpha access.
Once it hits beta you can access it for 50, that sounds like buying any other game, looks fine to me but at the end is up to you.
Also you should consider that even if you are going to have access to the game, everything is going to be wiped before launch.

Purely on the game.
Wait for second alpha server.
Do not bother until it is up and running.
Game is very good, but enjoy it for what it is and expect nothing from Trion, as they are unfortunately not really in a position to make changes to the game, or enforce any decent policing of their servers.
I really enjoy it, but I just do my own thing in game, I don't rush about levelling and looking for groups to get loot drops or anything like that.
Closest in feel to SWG pre cu for me , but that is just in a sense of my char mattering to me, not in comparing actual mechanics.
Any questions, just ask.
p.s. I'm not a troll, just annoyed with Trion, who run livestreams to inform subscribers, but dont even know amongst themselves what the facts are when they do, and contradict themselves, leaving players/subscribers baying for clarification.

Alpha means six or seven months of playing the game before everyone else.
If you say so. Surely, you must be right.
