"Carbine, at least, has stated that they’re working on the optimization. However, for every user with top-of-the-line rigs that can’t get WildStar above 20fps, there is a user running a middling rig that gets 30fps just fine. Internet research suggests that the issues don’t have rhyme or reason, so you won’t know if they’ll affect you until you try. Regardless, it’s frustrating when a game that won’t graphically blow you out of the water struggles to maintain 30fps."
So I guess that goes to confirm what everyone has said is accurate . Some mid range rigs will play it well and some more powerful rigs don't . It does seem to be down to poor optimization but hopefully that will be put right in the coming months . If its not it probably will effect Wildstars subscription numbers .
With shadows off, my Dell N5050 runs the game fine. Never thought of it as a beastly gaming rig before, but... eh, you learn something new every day.

People already post that they won't sub because of the performance issues.
If after 9 years of development Carbine comes up with a client that drops to single digits and peaks at 30fps on a 280x, i guess there is not much they can do about it altogether. Some zone tweaking here, a slider for particle effects there... i expect nothing more.
This is the first game after WoW that could actually drag me in, but yet another company is unable to deliver a client that meets actual standards like proper multithreading or decent shadow processing etc. I could scream at Carbine - but in 6+ month down the road, they will anyway get what they deserve for repeating amateurish mistakes like this.
Another game with potential beyond believe will bite the dust due to the inability of it's studio.

Yeah your probably right . Looking at what people are saying some high end computers don't run it as well as some mid range ones . I'm starting to think my topic of discussion should have said "I would suggest everyone try this game before they buy it ".
The link to the review above seems to confirm that its pretty much pot luck if your computer will run it or not whether its mid range or a beast .

I think "pot luck" is spot on. It seems like it is something other than just system specs that's causing the game to play poorly even on some high end stuff.

Yeah there are performance issues for some people. I haven't experienced them. I kept my fps meter over my characters head on yesterday during the whole play session. The lowest my fps ever dipped to was 44.3, and it peaked at 72.1. I don't have all of the settings maxed out but more than half of them are, the rest are at least on medium.
I run a Intel i5 3570k 3.4 GHz quad core.
Radeon HD 7800
16 GB Ram
And I installed the game on my SSD.
Just to question the philosophy. Army of Socrates.
This is one of the few reasons i'm not going to buy this game at full price. Been trying to get a buddy key but no luck. Sooo, ill be waiting till it gets dirt cheap i guess.

I was in beta since July I think, not sure because I didn't play much for two reasons. One was that I didn't enjoy spamming my 1 key and two because I got around 20-30 fps or lower no matter what setting I tried. Even on lowest the game ran so poorly and looked like crap. The style didn't appeal to me to begin with, but I was sure with something so overly simple it would run better. I do have an AMD cpu, I think GW2 has the same issue with AMD. Wildstar runs worse than GW2 for me and GW2 raepes my cpu as it is.
Strongly agree with trying a pass if you can before buying.
First and foremost I will say it is sad some people can't play the game. I know there are some issues with it not spreading evenly across cores causing the game to freeze etc. But my first question to all these people saying game is horrible etc, how many processes are running in the background, when was last time you opened your pc and cleaned it, etc.....
Next the first thing I do when I hear anyone say my gaming laptop is cringe. I don't care what you put into a laptop they are not meant for gaming. I learned the hard way when I purchased a $4k rig about 6 years ago they can't hold a candle to a desktop. Not going to harp on about that though......
I hope people get it figured out but there is no way any company can make something run on every possible configuration of pc available. A lot of the time it is the updated video drivers causing issues. Usually if you roll back to earlier drivers and do clean installs, newer games run better until the video card companies actually release a driver with the game specifically looked at.
They should dump the whole buddy key thing and just offer a free 10 day trial... it's essentially what they are doing now, only you don't get it directly through them.
Would allow people to find out if their hardware is affected before purchasing, thereby saving them wasting their 30 days of game time.
Would also get more people to try out the game... which clearly is what they are after with the buddy keys in the first place.
Of course the down side to that is you increase the bot population 10 fold since they can just keep downloading another 10 day free trial... unless it's a locked trial in some way, meaning you can talk in chat, send mail, et al like with WoW's free trial.

I cleaned my PC with compressed air about a month ago . i also did an msconfig to make sure nothing was running in my startup menu that I didnt want . Most developers seem to manage to get a game to run on the majority of systems that use either a Radeon or Nvidia card that are above the recomended specs . There will always be a small minority of systems that will have problem but in the case of Wildstar its seems to be a lot more than a small minority . As with myself many players report they can play other recently released mmos perfectly fine and it is only Wildstar they have a problem with . This suggests its more than a mere driver issue .
I have just seen Radeon have updated their drivers in the latest Catalyst update . Sadly no longer do I have access to the game with a buddy key to check it out and there is now way I would buy it until I do .
They really could do with a free trial after all these optimization issues .

Yeah, AMD's latest beta drivers helped a lot for people with Radeon cards, myself including. It was not abnormal to gain 20-30 fps from what I've seen.
Wildstar is typical WoW clone with same outdated graphics and stupid cartoon style. And do you really say, that this game, with 10 years outdated graphics, runs slowly on an average, a few years old PC??? Should be really crappy and non optimized engine...
What in the blue hell are you talking about?
Do you actually think that Carbine stole WoW's graphics engine and just made their game around it? Seriously?
Wildstar is badly optimized no matter what people say. Some people run it smooth with and other people run it like crap with beast machines.
My old PC needs an upgrade but i run mmos that are more demanding than WS at higher fps. If Carbine could optimize that game like Square Enix did with XIV then that would be great. Potatoes can run XIV at 40-60 fps in populated areas and its more demanding than WS. That is optimization.
Runs terribly on my computer. I get 25-35 FPS in the open world with medium settings. I can run FFXIV on max setting and get 60 FPS. I have and AMD FX-6300 OC'd to 4.1ghz, 8GB of RAM, and an OC'd 7950 with 1150 on the core and 1350 on the memory. How can a game that looks so average, run so poorly?
You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into.

Agreed, however, they are in the process of optimizing still.
Why just today they said they've found a major optimization fix for AMD style processors. They announced it on their forums and it has been reposted several places now. Seems like they are on top of it. As someone with an AMD processor and who is suffering from lack of optimization I can understand people's frustration, yet at the same time I am still having fun with the game, and I have confidence in Carbine's abilities to fix their game, as they've shown great strides already in doing so.

You just negated your own statement ... I get what you mean though, the game does need optimization. Been noticing it get better and better each time I log, however. My bet is on the Devs to continue to push and get it smoother.
Not having any problems here with a 50€ Cyclone GTX550ti. I'm not sure if that's considered a beast gaming rig, though.
My opinion is my own. I respect all other opinions and views equally, but keep in mind that my opinion will always be the best for me. That's why it's my opinion.

I have an i5 quad core, 12GB ram and a ATI 6900 and the game works just fine and the default settings. I built this rig about 3-4 years ago.
According to this review its is a problem the developers have acknowleged .

30- 70 fps on a 650ti runs fine for me
thing is dont force your card to do anything let the card choice application setting itself
I hope they can improve the optimization further as well

Also, Carbine said today that they have made some breakthroughs for AMD processors that will be patched in next week: https://forums.wildstar-online.com/forums/index.php?/topic/87022-update-notes-build-674510-6282014/page-2#entry881024
The big problem for me was the newer AMD drivers, i.e the 14.14 radeon drivers.
Rolled back to the 13.12, and fixed most of my problems...I had issues with several games tbf.
My graphics card is 3 years old the rest of the machine is mid range at best these days, runs the game fine.
This looks like a job for....The Riviera Kid!
