Well, I have plenty of moments I really enjoyed in Warhammer 40,000. Even from the original Warhammer. From Space Marine to DoW, Xpacs, DoW2/Retribution, I've fallen more in love with the universe.
Don't get me wrong, I loved the RTS/campaign in the xpacs for DoW, the fighting and classes in Space Marine, and getting to equip my weapons/gear in DoW2, I think what I enjoyed most...
Was being able to craft and design my own colors for my own Craftworld/Legion/Chapters. I know, it's silly! It's a bunch of colors, blah blah blah! Focus on the game and all it's aspects or the lore, right?!
Well, It's just creating something that is mine in such a universe is what's so cool, honestly. Sure, I enjoy the fluff in games, but this just had a lot more meaning and fun behind it!
My first memory from Warhammer 40K was really special.
Played with marines at the tabletop at my buddys house. We fought our way all the way thru and manage to roll a chaos "boss" at the end after hours of explaining and learning.
The adrenalin and the expectations from this "imortal" enemy was so trembling that i couldn't stay to play. Just ran home for 15 min and then got back again. But they did finish without me. And I WAS FURIOUS!!
Actully loved Spacemarines and love the Spacemarines Ultramarines from ps3 game!
(Still sad about warhammer online: age of reckoning shutdown )
"It matter not who lives or dies, blood is shed as it is always been. Theres nothing else in this forsaken existance..."
It managed perfectly to show off the despair and bitternes that eroded him from within.
Tarkus was also nice bit a bit too hammy. In any case the Greater Unclean One fight looked like to roadrunner vs coyote running myself like an idiot while others squads open fire for AGES to kill him while moving avoiding his crap and pulls. In the end only cyrus and a handful of scouts lived to see the Great Unclean One vanquished after almost 15 minutes of shooting
I would have to say my best story of playing 40k tabletop was just when I was starting out. The shop I played in was a very tiny one so some gaming rules were more flexible than others. It was back when 40k in 40 minutes was a thing. I was playing Tau against Chaos and only had enough miniatures to full field a 400 point army. Most were unpainted, which made my victory all that much sweeter against the full painted Chaos marine and an Abaddon the Despoiler. I have since followed the lore and the PC games but saddly have not so much played tabletop because it was too few people playing.
The most glorious and memorable tale of mine, is when in a tournament my Ultramarine 4th Company Command Squad landed with the drop pod in the hearth of the Tyranid swarm, right in front of the Grand Hive Tyrant. Truly an epic battle that was. In the end the brave chaplain fell in front of the abominable beast, furtunately my fearless captain and the company champion with the rest of the squad were able to strike it down! For the glory of the Emperor!
For me it has to be table top back when they where doing the Armageddon campaign.
You could host your own battle and submit the result online and this would alter the success or failure of the defense of Armageddon. Plus you could go into pretty much any store in the UK and find a battle going on.
Having only recently started collecting my Imperial Guards after years of Warhammer Fantasy it was amazing to feel as though I was part of something larger then just me. It was almost a mini MMO experience!
My favorite experience would have to be my first. My older brother bought me a space marine starter army for X-mas one year and basically introduced me to a whole new world of escapism which was also a tangible craft that taught me how to focus and appreciate the finer details of life in general. I don't play the tabletop game much anymore, but I still have that starter army proudly on display in my man cave to always remind me of that valuable lesson.
The eldar are my favourite. On the tt they are so varied to play, can do a whole jetbike army, a whole wraith army, a guardian army or an aspect army which makes playing them v fun.
Also love their lore, a once great race that ruled the stars now doomed (or so it seems) due to their own hubris.
after taking a heavy beating and almost down to the last few units in the game on both sides
needing a miracle with only my 6 man space marine squad left to speak of
not only did they all roll to hit but they also all rolled to beat the toughness and also killed 6 OrKs
this then gave me a a opening and from this i went on to win the game from a lost cause
even though it was still tough from this point
it kinda was a turning point almost as if the space marines picked them self up and decided its time to fight or die and not only did they fight they went nuts and won the war
I even painted a decoration on these space marines to show what they did
My best time in Warhammer 40K has been a few weeks ago at a tournament, where my Wraithknight, last standing model of my army, managed to kill the last two space marines squads of my enemy, granting me enough points to achieve victory. A mixture of dice luck, good tactical coverage and enemy errors, but it was damn fun, thrilling moments but a lot of fun indeed.
While playing Dawn of War 2, my friend and I were playing multiplayer against two others, and somehow messed up enough that we allowed our enemy to manage produce not just one, but two or three baneblades. Our response was to build massive amounts of anti-vehicle infantry, hide them in the fog of war, scout out the baneblades, and deal so much damage so fast that they went down before we could lose any squads.
One of the best times in warhammer 40k had to be one of the older games that was called Final Liberation which was a turned based strategy game done by SSI in the late 90's. This was a fun game as it had great cinematics, a challenging campaign and tons of units for you to choose from. If you can find this game I would recommend playing it as it is a blast to play.
My favorite Warhammer 40K moment happened - oddly enough - about two days ago. I've always been a fan of the Celestial Lion's Space Marines ever since 3rd Armageddon, and my brother, who I got into 40k, has been a Black Templar that whole time. Not much was known about the Lions except they pissed off the Inquisition and suffered for it. Recently the author of Helsreach wrote a Novella called Blood and Fire, which recounts how the remnant of the nearly extinct Chapter was saved... By the Black Templars. So its a cool brother to brother moment for me. I can't wait for Eternal Crusade.
Well i only say that best of the best in my Warhammer 40k experience was a sound of bolters carried by terminator squad, when they shred through some orcs/chaos/heretics.
sadly i have yet to play any of the older titles but have watched alot local comps and it seems to be pretty good. So im throwing my line out and say im addicted to this and cant wait to have my first time playing such a well presented game.
I would not call it the best experience, but it is the most memorable one for sure. Me and my brother (who is 4 years younger then me) used to play Dawn of War together, versus AI, one another or oponnents on the internet. Of course, being the older one, I was much better then him. And he got really frustrated about that. So one time he said to me that I should play the race which I'm most comfortable with and start a match. And when we I was sure that victory was at hand, we pulled some units out of his ass and crashed me. That was amazing and irritating at the same time. I never fell for it again, but he had become a much better player since.
My first time playing Dawn of War Dark Crusade as Eldar in a 5 man FFA. I'd never played a DoW game online and managed to wipe out the Necrons and the Tau. The SM player killed the last remaining and then left before I could assault his base, leaving me last man standing.
Played a 5000pt game with a friend of mine that took all day. I had Eldar and he used Blood Angel Space marines. I ended up wining the game with unusual tactics and some lucky save rolls!
All my opinions are just that..opinions. If you like my opinions..coolness.If you dont like my opinion....I really dont care. Playing: ESO, WOT, Smite, and Marvel Heroes
My favorite experience was taking my son last year to a building/painting class at a local Games Workshop. I had always had an interest in the table top games, but being in the military and moving all over the damn place.. I never had time to actually sit and get into it, although I have always wanted to. Now that I'm out, I decided to get into it with my son, who was 6 last year when we went. The staff at Games Workshop was AMAZING! They welcomed us with open arms and broken everything down so we could easily understand the basics of this complicated game. They worked with us with models and showed us tips on painting, building etc. All in all, we were there for about 6 hours LOL. The little community inside the shop playing were also extremely cool and willing to teach us. Instead of being elitist meanies you would tend to find in MMO's and some other card games... they took time out of their day to answer hundreds of questions from a 6 year old who had questions ranging from names of the individual orcs, to how they made the landscapes lol.
Needless to say, my experience at Games Workshop for that one day turned me into a life-long fan. My son and I have a large collection, which is updated weekly (much to my wife's chagrin) and we still frequent the store. We will both be playing this game and are rabidly awaiting info as it comes!
My favorate 40K moment to date (to date mind cause I keep takin in that sweet 40K addiction). Was actually playing THQ's/Relic's Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine game.
Now I played a bit of the table top, but I mostly got into it by way of the books and video games. The lore just seems so interesting to me...but anyway. So I was playing an online multiplayer match. And believe it or not it was a good match, pings were decent, players were all doing a great job. It was a Seize Ground game and it came down to 2 points to determine the winner of the match. Devistators were holding points with their heavy guns, Tacticals were running around with ...mostly melta's but still had a decent mix of other weapons. But it came down to the Assualt classes. We had at one point lost all our capture points...they became over confident and tried to pin us into our spawn location, a few of us sneaked out of the bottom and back capted all their points. Which of course they found out and quickly took em back. BUT it was enough..we were able to hold our ground.
the last few moments of the match, I had taken a Assault with a power hammer (because its just goofy fun to mess around with the power hammer sometimes). I flew to their back point and uncapped it....was quickly killed before I could cap it by a handy grenade and a few well played shots from an opponets plasma canon. I respawned and jetted back over there using every trick I had, as quickly as possible. I landed at just the right moment as they were about to cap their point..slammed down into the middle of 3 of their guys and swung my hammer taking out 2 and making the third run out of capture range. Their barrage slienced me for ever...but my sacrifice and timing cost them the few precious seconds they needed and in the end our team had won.
Final Score: Chaos 998/1000 Space Marines 1000/1000 FOR THE EMPEROR!
