How long have you been playing for? Just give it a few ...
  • DewulfDewulf Member UncommonPosts: 139

There is more ways to enjoy the endgame now, before 2.1 at the launch there wasnt really much stuff to do, doing the same dungeon all over again is gone now.

Now you get tomes from dungeons, dailry ruolette, 5v5 pvp, 72 player pvp match and primals etc.

The primals and dungeons are the most entertaining for me in ffxiv atleast. They are unique.

If you haven't logged in since launch,  you have lot of stuff that u have missed! Since its 2.3 now.

SQE are pushing content into the game harder than any other publisher imo. 2.3 just launched with even more to do at cap.  Sept/Oct there will be a new class!

Meanwhile in world of warcraft content is ..... <insert dustball> for over a year.

Pretty much this.  It's hard not to have respect for what the development team is doing and the direction and drive they're showing for the game.  Which is also kind've sad, as this should technically be the norm for every game.  It's sad when the biggest game on the market has trouble getting content out for a year when FFXIV is releasing entire new systems with each major and minor patch -- something usually only reserved for expansions for other games.

Due to frequent travel in my youth, English isn't something I consider my primary language (and thus I obtained quirky ways of writing).  German and French were always easier for me despite my family being U.S. citizens for over a century.  Spanish I learned as a requirement in school, Japanese and Korean I acquired for my youthful desire of anime and gaming (and also work now).  I only debate in English to help me work with it (and limit things).  In addition, I'm not smart enough to remain fluent in everything and typically need exposure to get in the groove of things again if I haven't heard it in a while.  If you understand Mandarin, I know a little, but it has actually been a challenge and could use some help.

Also, I thoroughly enjoy debates and have accounts on over a dozen sites for this.  If you wish to engage in such, please put effort in a post and provide sources -- I will then do the same with what I already wrote (if I didn't) as well as with my responses to your own.  Expanding my information on a subject makes my stance either change or strengthen the next time I speak of it or write a thesis.  Allow me to thank you sincerely for your time.

Agreed completely.  The "strengths" of the game listed in the OP are the same systems and content offered by the vast majority of themepark games.

In short, there's really very little in the game that makes it special.  It's more of the same.

Couldn't agree more. And yet I have reactivated my FFXIV:ARR sub as well (I learned crystas can expire :s) last week. I have rerolled to a EU server and started fully anew. I think I was lucky enough to find a good FC immediately and that does make the game a lot more fun.

Though FFXIV:ARR offers a lot and is very good for a themepark, I'm waiting to see what I think about it when the 30 days are over. In the past I kinda quit playing because of the boredom the game gave after a while. Then again, I was without FC back then as well...

Hella way better on the PS4 than the PC.

Op glad to see a topic like this. While FFXIV didn't really connect with me I can see it's beauty.

Hope you going to enjoy the game for some time because to me as a gamer that is all what counts which is seeing my fellow gamers have fun in games even if I might not be playing that game.

    1   too much zoneing

2   zones are very small, infact many are split by zoning, even cities.

3   300 part sory line does not fit with an mmo

4   dynamic events are a solo zerg fest

All this makes it not an mmo

NOPE. DnD isn't about grinding linear scripted instanced quests. It's about open ended adventures. The opposite of what FF14 does.

You know what MMOs didn't involve quest grinding? The non themepark pre WoW clone era MMOs.

Oh, you mean back when mmo's sucked right?

You can do quests, and quests, and quests, and quests!

Let's see aside from quests there are:

    - Wolves Den PvP

    - Frontlines PvP

    - Fates

    - Dunegons and raids ranging from low level 4 mans to 8 man Bahamut's Coil and 24 man Crystal / Syrcus tower raids for end game gear

    - Guildhests

    - Leves

    - Primal battles (normal, hard mode, and extreme mode) some of which are party of storylines while others are farmed for high end gear, rare mounts, and other rewards

    - Elite mark / hunting parties

    - Various types of logs to complete (hunting, sightseeing, fishing, etc)

    - A unique and meaningful crafting system

Pretty sure I missed a couple things there too. Yep, sure sounds like nothing but questing....

^ Has not played FFXIV obviously.

The game is the apex of modern themepark design. No one has done it better yet. As much as I love ESO, FFXIV is just a better, smoother, more enjoyable game all around right now. The dungeons are amazing, there are so many in game activities that I have never, not ONE time had to do a quest hub to quest hub grind. I'm level 42 right now with my new character since getting back into the game, and I have done ZERO quest hubs. Slandering a game because you didn't like it for whatever reason. How new and different. Would you like a cookie?

Hmm didn't you just stop by the Swtor thread and put in your two cent slander about that game? Maybe you should eat your own cookie?

I didn't slander SWToR. I said it had a great story, and the rest of the game was standard MMO fare. That's not slander. Get over it.

No you said pretty good story but that's where the "fun bus" stops, to me that sounds like nothing else is fun in Swtor (slander)

Maybe instead of calling out others for bashing your game maybe you should start by staying away from game you don't like.  Just a thought though trying to help your credibility a bit that's all.

Haha, I don't need your help or care about what you think of my credibility, my opinion is my opinion and I'll continue to share it. If you think that was an insult to SWToR, you are wrong. Sorry you feel like I slandered your game, but the fault is with you and your line of thought, not me.

This is getting off topic, so I'll let you have your little rant continue on if you want, by all means, share your opinion too!

Yea, Limsa Lominsa was so full last night on Faerie that I couldn't see anything till I turned off players names. The entire zone was blue text haha. I haven't seen this many people in an MMO in a long time.

No.  They involved sitting in one spot camping the same mobs over and over and over--because that's more fun than looking for people with exclamation points over their heads, right?

You're not seriously suggesting that any MMO actually replicates table top game play, right?  I smell a 4th Edition baby.

Seriously, rose-colored glasses.  You don't like this game?  You don't like theme-park style games?  Fine.  Stop crying about it and trying to piss in this guy's Cheerios.  Grow up.

Excellent game that I've been enjoying for the last 10 months. Too much to do in this game! Logs, crafting and now frontlines are drawing me in. I swear it's like when I start playing I get pulled into too many different directions. I'm also trying to save up for my personal quarters. It wouldn't surprise me if FFXIV turns out to be GoTY.

Zones were very small (not sure how much was left but I got to level 40).

during release grinding fates just got very tedious.

It didn't really feel much different to all other mmos I play.  This is not a knock at all I just felt I've got a lot of time invested in other similar games I'm going back to them.

    Again just my opinions...

Fate grinding is a still a part of it, but not nearly as focused as it was at release. I had played at release too and recently came back about a month before 2.3 to get back into the swing of things. The list that someone gave earlier in the thread is pretty concise about the content offered. The new NM/Hunt system that was released is pretty cool and very popular at the moment. There is a little rage going on about people killing the NM's too quickly, but they have a patch for that coming out the third week of July.

Like you, I wasn't very impressed with it at release, but I've found it to be a breath of fresh air about a year later.

Yep, this game has quickly taken over that spot for me as game I'm always subbed to. Tried out Wildstar for a bit and that seemed like an OK arcade game, but I couldn't get immersed in the story. FFXIV really excels where it tries. It provides casual and hardcore content, a FF quality story line, and overall a great themepark experience. The cool thing on this site seems to be to hate on themeparks, which is fine. Give the game credit where credit is due though.

Tempted to revisit this game. Finished the Ultima Boss battle/story quest, then took a break.

Do they have any promo weekends or welcome back trials for this game?

If not, I may give it a months go again, see where it's got to.
