I usually don't play theme parks, but because this is an Elder Scrolls game, I gave it a look. I'm glad I did. I found the best pvp and combat  the genre has to offer, even though it's not FFA. To top it all off, it's the fricken Elder Scrolls mmorpg. I'm playing a Redguard Night Blade who hates Elves and Nords. How cool is that?

What are you talking about? I did not rationalize anything. So it is not an ES game to me. Now it just becomes a regular non-ES-mmo game. Why can't I choose to play a regular non-es-mmo game? Mr. bully I don't think you are ever happy ;)

I play two great games, ESO and WOW. But I have to admit ESO's last patch has put a little more Elder Scrolls into it. To me as long as am having fun and fun with a great guild (Grievance) then it is all good to me.

When the game first released I heard way more complaints about bugs and bots. Well they have fixed a lot of bugs (always bugs in these games, WOW still has a few) and the bots are gone, haven't seen any for a long time.

They still need to fix FPS in ESO but it is getting better.

What I love the most about these two games, they are like two different animals. That is the best compliment you can make for both of them.

I'm not perfect but I'm always myself!

Now, why do you want to play?

It does not need to be an ES game for me to enjoy playing it. So it is not an ES game that sucks but that does not ruin the game as an mmo.

You haven´tried the launch game (nor even remember how the earlier ES games were like) and keep saying it´s not an ES game, while many here say it feels it does (me included).

This debate can go on forever!

You either try out the game how it is now or just move on and forget about it, instead of continuous trolling and bashing and keep making foolish claims you possibly cannot backup.

This thread served its purpose. I know from what people said that it is better and getting better with time so I will try it again in 6 months. 6 months should be more than enough time for them to do what they want to do to improve the game. Thanks for your help.

When you say it "failed to capture the essence of ES" that's just a cop-out. It's following the line of lemmings. So what is it? I've played everything AFTER Daggerfall and I don't see the disconnect. Unless you're talking about the game not being a hot mess. I remember in Morrowind, I spent over 100 hours in game, came across this item during my exploration, sold it, came to find it was actually a quest item later on, IT GONE! It was part of a main story quest, so it basically hosed my entire save. If there's anything ES is notorious for, it's game breaking issues. Is that the essence you were hoping to find?

There are so many things that break the ES feeling but for the sake of brevity let us choose the worst offender. The real ES has a true classes system and does not force you to spend points in a tree to let one use the good skills. This for me was the biggest game breaker. The freedom is gone. I am not sure if they changed this but if they did then I might consider trying it again.

Skyrim had talent perks... you had to point in one talent to progress into something you maybe liked better. Oblivion had similar... your point is not valid. Skyrim had perks and Oblivion had favored attributes... needless to say it was a good job at allowing over all freedom of choice.

This is an MMO with PvP.... there had to be some restrictions to attempt some form of balancing... the variables for open choice of whatever would be mind-numbing! If this ruins it for you as en Elder Scrolls game then you can always keep playing the latter, but I would be shocked to see a system like that in ESO, nor did I expect it in the first place.... this does not ruin the Elder Scrolls experience I have in ESO one bit.

Every system has restrictions. Even the more open systems back in Morrowind. Oblvion was actually already more restrictive and in Skyrim, I actually liked that system the most. It felt more natural to me.

But in either system, the moment you start spending Your first attribute, talent perk, skill point, whatever.... you started specializing, restricting yourself to be effective as another "classes" type.

All this so called freedom is artificial.

If we want to talk about true restrictive play, then we look at traditional MMO´s like WoW, EQ2, LOTRO, etc. Where you pick a specific class and you are stuck in specific armor type, weapon type and type of skills. Everything already laid out for you, With very restrictive customization.

    Then we talk about restriction!

ESO found a very good balance in this, in that after you pick one of the 4 starter classes (which are just starting point, with only 3 unique skill trees each), you have total freedom in where you want to spend your skill Points.

You can wear any armor type you want. You can equip and use any weapon type you want. You can specialize in dozens of universal skill trees. Completely ignoring the class skill trees if you feel like it and use only skills from the weapon, guilds and other trees.

I mean.... you can basically create a Heavy armor wearing Battle mage. Enchanting everything in spell and magicka attributes.

Or become a werewolf or vampire an only use these skill lines.

Give me one example of an MMO that is still running today that allows that kind of freedom. (next to grief fest full loot forced PVP Darkfall, that sits in an extreme niche corner).

Only The Secret World as far as I know. But you still specialize yourself in specific builds and attune your gear and mods to said build. Making it very expensive and time consuming creating more than one build and collect all that extra gear and talismans.

EVE Online, eventho it allows you to Train in any area you want, is actually very restrictive and forces you right out to set a specific goal for yourself in what you want to do and specialize and train skills in towards that goal. As skill training takes time..... a very long time. Easily taking several months to a full year to become very effective in a specific area (especially if you choose to go the mining, manufacturing or trading route).

No matter what MMO you pick, what system you pick. They all have restrictions one way or the other. Even in SWG pre-NGE!!

This is done deliberately, to make people specialize and create a dependency on other players and make them cooperate with eachother. Which is the whole point in an Online game where you play With other players in the same game world.

If everyone would be able to be fully sufficient and fully self sustainable, everyone would be playing solo and ignoring eachother.

If that is what you want and call freedom, then stick to single player RPG´s. As they are made for that.
