Look I used to do this for a living, if I had the time or the will power to explain this in detail to you I would,I don't... I used to do those political polls you're referring to... You're trying to use a sample of a sample....Xfire and Raptr themselves are simply samples in and of themselves. The greater majority of either game is not represented in these samples.
So the samples that poll around 500 people to represent the 120 million people that vote with a 97% confidence are some how more accurate than the few hundred people sampled for about 30 million players it targets?
Those polls aren't really meant to be accurate, they're meant to tell what those paying for them want them to tell.

doesnt look like to me the game is doing to well, from what i see is that lil red arrow indicates that in the last month it has lost 7 positions. so its on a steady decline after only being out a couple months.
By all means I would like to support this game, I think from the last few MMO launches I've grown tired of wishing games poor success. At the time of Wildstar's Open Beta and Launch I was struggling to find the purpose of continuing the pointless and content-less grind that was FFXIV. After receiving a friend code that pre ordered the game I gave it a shot, but to my surprise while I enjoyed the style and concept the game was probably one of the most poorly optimized games I have ever seen in my life and I played SWTOR at launch... This was the final open beta with launch less then a week away, I knew this game wasn't going to run any better closer to launch. It was the first MMO that I actually passed on, for those that will ask for my specs I have the ROG ASUS G75VW :
From the above specs i have the best CPU and the GTX 670 3G Graphics card and there is no way that a game that looks like it has as many poly's as WoW to run at 15-30FPS NO MATTER what settings I use other than VERY LOW settings.... I tried playing this game on my older desktop with a Phenom II Black edition 4 Core 3.4 GHZ Processor with a ATI Radeon HD 5870 and while it ran a "little" better the frame dips were just unplayable to me. Ultimately that and with forced 40 man raiding if you want the best lewt (this is a unwanted feature as of years ago which is why WoW has removed it and no mmo has it anymore) that no amount of lore or other vanity features that will make me want to play it even if the game was optimized (granted if it was I would of still gave it a shot so my views had some more merit). But even after trying my first battleground the map was a clusterf*ck of telegraphs and it was the smallest player map, i feared what was to be seen in a 40v40 (also a reason why WoW stopped making Alterac Valley type maps NO ONE WANTED THEM). From my views the game just tries to be the the MMO that people no longer wanted and refusing to see reason that is justified by tagging on the "hardcore" word to every video that the devs post xD. When the average MMO player doesn't know how to get out of the AoE and have your game be about structure and teamwork I'd hate to wait in a dungeon que and hope I don't morons.
p2p games always seem to generate more hate. Heck there are people out there still shouting for ff14 to go f2p despite how well it seems to be doing. For me wild star was an okay game. If they added more to it in the future I would probably give it a second try. Really wish people would stop trying to get all these p2p games to convert to f2p.

I would argue that almost all modern day MMOs have a fairly large decline within a few months after release. GW2, SWTOR, ESO, etc all followed the same pattern. I think this is mainly due to the vastly larger MMO player base that exists now a days and the level of attention and hype that games receive today.
Gamers and developers alike are in search of the next WoW, not realizing that there will never be another WoW, in fact if a modern day version of WoW released today it wouldn't be the next WoW... Right place at the right time. Developers need to stop developing around gamers and focus on developing around the games themselves. IMO that's what made games like UO, WoW, EQ etc so awesome. I highly doubt that blizzard released WoW thinking that WoW would be the benchmark for all further MMO success. They put together a game based around their trademark name Warcraft and released what they released, it was good and they built on that.
Maybe these trends just let us know that we all should invest in a PS4 until the MMO developers stop releasing craptastic games??
All these signs point to Wildstar being a niche game. You could knock me over with a feather.
I don't mean that negatively, I play games that suit my style more than others, and Wildstar does it for me.
and thats all it needs, it doesnt have some big IP where it has someone it needs to impress like other games. Wildstar will probably sit around 400k subs for quite awhile which isnt too bad. More than enough to sustain the game for years.
Damn this must be the 100th propaganda post about Raptr from the OP.
I dont see Wildstar having staying power on there from them figures. Its been out what, 2 months and its plummeting already.
Major IPs like STWOR, FF and ESO will maintain a presence on there for sure from adverts and people checking em out but I cant see WS adding huge amounts of new subs at all. I just dont see the appeal.
You have all these posts about low pop servers on this and their official forums - nothing will be more of a turn off for a new player.

Yeah but how long has STWOR been out? That is the staying power you need.
The biggest problem with widlstar is no one cares.

Now look at ESO and SWTOR.
Both ESO and SWTOR are based on longstanding franchises, Wildstar isn't. That's really all it boils down to.
With both ESO and SWTOR most of the rage has little to do with the games in question and more to do with people's absurd feelings of ownership over what the franchise in question should be.

How quickly did SWTOR plummet? Only 1 month correct? I played it for a few months on the most populated server at release and play it here and there. I enjoy it but it was a ghost town quickly.

Now you are just lying through your teeth. SWTOR peaked at 1,7 million subscribers before sub numbers started to drop. It's a number light years away from what Wildstar can even dream to reach. The FACT is that once the free month ended WS immediately plummeted 7 spots in this list of yours. It's not hard to predict that once the August list releases it is very unlikely that it will be in the top 20.
The game needs drastic measures to be taken on behalf of Carbine. If they don't do it then you can be sure that NCsoft will step in and take charge.

Also, SWTOR is a f2p / sub hybrid.
No one said Wildstar has the most subs. But it does have more time played right now which is a much bigger accomplishment. If people are having fun and playing constantly then they must be doing something right. SWTOR has star wars and KOTOR backing up the game. Elder Scrolls has a long standing over the past 20 years of games.
Wildstar being a no name game coming in and beating them proves how good of a game Wildstar will be. We have no idea what is will be in the future but we know without having an big IP it is still playing with the big dogs.
Is it any big surprise that the OP is twisting data to match his own views of the game?
He clearly doesn't understand statistics, and he is also clearly biased. Which is sadly fairly standard when it comes to threads on this site. Few people actually bother to read (and understand) the sources they link, they simply just find data that appears to backup the idea they're trying to present. Not unlike what most politicians do when they're trying to convince people that they are right, no matter how flawed they're statements actually are.
The link clearly shows a downward trend, which is further backed up by concerns from the author of the data itself:
"but more worryingly, gameplay was down 45.63%. We’ll see if its latest PvP game mode, Sabotage, launched on July 31, can help spur a rebound, though initial signs point towards probably not"
That does not sound like someone who's optimistic about the games continued success. And it also doesn't look like data that backs up the claim that the game is doing well.
- That said, (and this is where the OP really fails to grasp the basic concepts of statistics) Distopia has been absolutely right with his posts thus far. These charts are a sample of a sample. People using them assume that these accurately reflect the whole population, with no actual data to back it up.
As for political census', they tend to be more accurate because they are only using 1 sample, that is carefully targeted. Even still, it's never used as a definitive 'these areas will win by this much'. They're used as a general guideline, a template to help candidates pool their resources more efficiently, so they don't waste millions advertising in areas they've already won.
*** You need to be careful about using data to support a point, if you don't want to be made to look like a fool. Saying 'that survey did it, so this one is just as accurate' is laughably ignorant. You need to pay attention to things like, how the data was collected, how the sample reflects on the whole, possible flaws / errors made in collecting such data, etc. In short, do your research, read between the lines, and make sure what you're using actually says what you think it does. Very few data charts actually say what you'd think on face value. ***

Using Raptr as an anicdotal indication is fine by me for shits and giggles discussions, but there is no way you can sit there with a straight face and claim that in general, Wildstar has more playtime than SWTOR.
Do you have anything that refutes the data provided?
