And this is the game that MMORPG said would revolutionize the genre - umm, and knock our socks off.

    What the hell happened?

Wow.  That's worse than i thought.

I suspect Landmark will be using that same combat system when it implements it soon.  Those characters also look like Landmark characters.  I can't remember if the animations are the same though, but i do see similarities between the two.  This is a bad sign, because Landmark is really horrible with their characters, animations, sounds, etc.

That combat was atrocious in that video.  The sounds, animations, spell effects, etc., look so awful.  It reminded me of those Asian f2p MMOs, except they are done way better in those.  I'm sorry, but this game needs a new team and a relaunch from the ground up and it's not even in beta. lmao.

I like control roles and i like skills that are tactical and more than just damage...wondering tough about how they will balance the skills without them getting boring and plain

Ps: i truly hate the armors tough...they are wow like ridicoulos...will aoc stay the only game besides maybe war with nice armors?

was about to post the same thing, while I dont want the RIFT/WOW approach of 100 skills to chose from, I dont want the boring GW2, NWN, TERA, ESO under 10 skills

but today at least they have perked my interest once again....call it desperation for a game

WoW is getting a make over, you now only have about 15-30 skills depending on class :)

Seems fun.  I'll give it a go for sure.

The word cool is in order but after listening to the entire speech i thought that in reality it doesn't sound any different than just playing NWN.We also noticed that just like NWN they added r-click l-click combat to the mouse,i see the same happening in NExt.Only 5 or 6 abilities i believe is what they said prior and again seems to match Nwn.The added class/sub class abilities is a FFXIV design and doesn't end up being very good and Georgeson uses the words passive and secondary meaning probably r-click for secondary and not as good as the main abilities.Example lightning in doesn't do anything to combat other than speeding in ,again similar to some of the Nwn abilities and seen before with some Warrior dash in moves.

Some might think NWN oh cool and yes it was "cool" and even FUN for about 2 weeks then the lack of depth and just lack of got real boring,so much that i have  an almost impossible time going back to play NWN anymore.

Then what has SOE been known for content?Linear yellow marker questing,i expect more the same,so really what importance does CLASS have if just running yellow markers 90% of the time. Now i realize that they ALSO create dungeons to which i think most of us have more fun doing than the linear questing, probably ONLY because we know the loot is always better. If you do the linear questing, then it becomes more a search for the FASTEST killing machine to get through all those go kill 10 rat quests.Linear questing removes ANY and ALL COOL from a class because we all know that in reality ANY class and pretty much sleep walking can complete those quests.

Point being SOE needs to look at their game design flaws of past and work on that before trying to market their classes.BTW i have played all EQ2 and most EQ1 classes,i never got the feeling of COOL aside from perhaps the ShadowKnight and even that got bland  after a short while.SOE classes are actually cumbersome to play because of fast timers calling for spam button mashing.I realize this time might be different with more function on abilities but that made me think again. That Lightning in ability, how functional is that after already darting in once to the mobs, not useful at all after that.

last year everyone was wailing "there will be no heals, every class will be the same, it will be GW2"... looks like they were wrong to a degree, heal class(es) look like they're in EQN as they should be IMHO

RIP Ribbitribbitt you are missed, kid.

As I sat watching this video I have to say my hopes faded rather abruptly.

When they were talking about the cleric there was a little interest, but more acceptence that it's a staple of MMOs, not the high point of optimism that Bill had.

Then Bill introduced the next class as a bit of what was missing from MMOs; the original trinity of healers, tanks and support, and I fully believed they were going to talk about an enchanter; a class-style I think is sadly missing from MMOs today (and I hadn't seen any of the reveals from SOE Live - so I was watching this with no prior knowledge).

They weren't. When it became clear they were talking about an elementalist I started thinking about GW2; a game I thought about when I first heard about EQN.

Then Dave mentioned limited skills, the conversation got around to the movement involved in combat (or continued to discuss it) and , perhaps most notably for me, talk of an attack on a dark elf fort and the story events that were part of it.

The more they talked the more I thought I was watching a GW2 preview video from 2 years ago. Limited skills, an interactable and changeable (from serer to sever anyway) world and action combat are the core mechanics of GW2. Let's face it, limited skills and action combat are the core mechanics of every MMO that gets made lately.

I'm not engrossed by the changes to the lore of Norrath (I'm disgusted at SOE that they can do that - but I won't go there), and now I'm thinking more and more that EQN is a joint cooperation between SOE and ArenaNet; or at least SOE spying on ArenaNet. Do they think that GW2 was such a good game that they have to copy it?

I want so much for EQN to be the game that gets my faith back for MMOs, but all I see is the same old with SOEs hyped enthusiasm. My only hope is they really pull that cat out of the bag on class design, because that's always been a strong point of SOE MMOs. But this fascination with limited skill sets and jumping around in combat is getting boring.

the primary complaint was there is no taunt  (necessary for traditional trinity tanking)

I'm not a fan of action based combat mmos

but I still look forward to EQN

When they first released information about combat I was worried they were going in the same direction as Guild Wars 2. Nothing that was shown or said has alleviated that worry for me. All of this is pre-alpha/alpha footage and I understand the end product may be vastly different but so far this has dampened my enthusiasm for the game a bit.

I love that they are bringing control back. Enchanter has always been my favorite MMO class. I'll keep an eye on it regardless and see how it changes. I am guessing a late 2016 release and a lot can change in that amount of time.

Sadly, Avarix, I think the 'control' aspect of the elementalist might be overstated; at least if the recent batch of MMOs is anything to go by.

I had a nice moment of interest when they started to talk about the elementalist, but I won't be fooled twice. I had similar moments of interest when they talked about control classes in ESO and Wildstar. They weren't enchanters.

Hopefully I'm proved wrong and the elementalist is the return of enchanters. MMOs need them back.

after watching SOE screw up SWG, Vanguard and EQII the fans here will have to excuse me if I am a bit skeptical on SOE releasing anything resembling a great game. I am hoping for the best while my gut feeling is that EQN will be another SOE inspired disaster. I honestly hope they surprise me and the game will be fantastic, it's just that I refuse to get excited at this stage of the development

In my experience all games look great in event promos and press releases so I refuse to get pumped up about any game that is not in a non NDA status.

    I miss DAoC

The post proves the ignorance of some people that post on this websight. They are doing the complete opposite of what is being said in the quote here. They have said since the last SOE live that that there will be no quest hubs with npcs standing around with yellow markers above their heads. Questing will be dynamic with storybricks, which was shown in early alpha videos of Storybricks before they got pick up by SOE that it can be done. EQN is a sandbox mmorpg, linear questing is not what going to be in the game.

SoE didn't make VG.  SWG was forced into an early release by LA, as well as at least partially forced into changes by LA.  EQ2 wasn't that great at release but from KoS-RoK it was one of the greatest MMORPGs in history and its still one of the top themeparks.

I don't like the look of EQN either, but SoE is certainly capable of making great games.  EQ2 is proof of that.

Of course they aren't necessarily very consistent, but neither is anyone else.

Keynote on YOUTube for those who haven't seen it.

His opening statement about  how they were answering the question on when they going to start building EQN...SURPRISE..they are! Landmark!

Is this any surprise to anyone? I didn't think anyone hadn't/couldn't realize this.

We'll see how it goes. Time has waned my interest in EQN. I'll play it like I always do for any AAA but the current videos (allowing for the fact that they are prelim) have me in a less than swooned state.

I thought they would come out with a HUGE intro. This is 'muted' imo.

They should add alot more yellow stars and bubbles to the warriors combat animations! Not nearly big and yellow enough.

    see

    This.

    Only for cleric too.

Totally horrible. I can't believe someone didn't stand up and say what the fuck!

The overall graphics are just ok. Good enough but not exciting at all. But the flashes, overlays and shit are unbearable.

Overall impression. I won't play that.

Anyone else getting a City of Heroes vibe off what is being said about the mechanics of this game so far?

It's control sounds just like that to me... Which while it was fun in CoH for a while, it was nothing like the CC required in EQ.

EQ only gave you eight spell slots but you still had plenty of spell to chose from unlike today's mmo who are jumping on the band wagon. There is a differance than having eight spell slots and being about to place any spell you want that having eight spell slots but they are restricted.

Probably going to pass on this, as much as I hate to. It's going to be using the same engine as Landmark, which needs incredible hardware to run well. You know it's bad when you get better FPS in Star Citizen.

You can still collect all 40 classes and mix and match their ability's, But certain ability's have Weapon type and Armor type requirements to use. So yes you can but in a defined way.

you will have 4 weapon attack ability's, and 4 class ability's to put on your hotbar.

People are also forgetting Landmark combat will be the test bed for combat mechanics for EQN . Landmark gets basic combat Aug 27th. the players testing the combat out in landmark will make EQn combat 10k times better. Then when EQN goes Alpha those players will help make it even better as we have seen in Landmark already.
