40 class at launch and they said I think 12 unique Class ability's + each weapon and weapon combo comes with it's own list of weapon ability's. On top of that you can mix and match class ability's. That alone is 480 class ability's to mix and match if you want and if you collect all the classes.

480 unique class ability's simple as that.

Then add in Weapon ability's and weapon combo ability's.

If that isn't enough ability's for some of you there is no hope.

Then when EQN goes Alpha those players will help make it even better as we have seen in Landmark already.

You are assuming that SOE will listen to those playing and even if they do, who are they going to listen to?   Those that provide critical feedback or those that support SOE's direction and vision?   Just from what I've seen on the polls, if they feedback doesn't line up with their own ideas, they ignore it and go with what they want anyway.

Looking good SOE..  Tone down the cartoon superhero flashy bits during combat and you may have a winner...

And this is the game that MMORPG said would revolutionize the genre - umm, and knock our socks off.

    What the hell happened?

Well the combat is only a small part of the game..

Saying that the landmark pvp combat video looked a hell of a lot better, Landmark did not look tab target at all you had peopel moving around evading attacks, firing arrows and missing and so on.. EQ:N looks very tab target and it will be shame if they have gone for some different to what the showed off in the Landmark PVP videos.. I know they are two different gaes but they are using Landmark as a base so I hoped that would include the combat system.

480 class abilities will be a little bit off. SOE already told us that you can't have a mixture of Evil and Good classes. For example, if you have the Paladin class you will be excluded from the Shadow Knight class. It looks like they will have good, evil and neutral classes which means you can have approximately 2/3 of the total combinations. Still 320 seems like a huge number to me. Either way i'm actually playing Landmark and some of the things players are creating are amazing. I've never seen a game with this detailed a creation system. Since these same systems will be in EQN I expect it to at least have a ton of options just like the oped suggests. Animations are currently not up to speed but surprisingly few tech glitches are present. I'm at least hopeful that EQN will be a game I can play long term. It's way too early to tell.

Others above keep talking about what class they want when they should be saying how great it is that they won't have to have 40 alts so they can play them all. Worst case you'll need 2 Alts. Of course the griefers among us will need a 3rd alt since your reputation is global and affected by all you do.

We can only hope that they don't go the EQ and EQ2 route making it easy mode.

Or, finally, maybe they found a way to come up with difficulty versions on separate servers. That would work better for all.

Original EQ/EQ2 release = Group focused content.

Current EQ/EQ2 versions = Solo play focused content.

The post proves the ignorance of some people that post on this websight. They are doing the complete opposite of what is being said in the quote here. They have said since the last SOE live that that there will be no quest hubs with npcs standing around with yellow markers above their heads. Questing will be dynamic with storybricks, which was shown in early alpha videos of Storybricks before they got pick up by SOE that it can be done. EQN is a sandbox mmorpg, linear questing is not what going to be in the game.

Sandbox?  Not hardly, just another themepark.  Sandbox games do not have classes, they are skill based and since they have limited skills, it is not even close to a sandbox.  A sandbox is all about freedom to choose your characters skillsets, there is very little of that here.  The ignorance surrounding the word "sandbox" is amazing.

    Agreed x10.

I loved GW2's combat, it was done well and had good variety. It was also a good change from the tab based lazy combat style. The game being top among the most played MMOs just goes to show how much the people enjoy the game's mechanics which includes the combat.

its among the top cause its B2P.  They still count me and I havent logged in for 2 yrs

Even if combat isn't perfect in this game I think the potential from the landmark inclussion will make this game an incredible and long lasting game.  I think its clear from watching their round tables that they want landmark to go in the Warcraft 3 Mod Engine direction.  They want people to make their own games that can be played within EQN.  I am very hopeful that this will lead to interesting new dungeons and raids to run even once you get tired of the main ones.

The only worry I have is that they will try to integrate landmark into the main game too much, like neverwinter, and end up gimping the user creation tools to make that work, like neverwinter.

The Elementalist is going to bring back another role that seems forgotten in recent MMOs.

Originally the Trinity didn't refer to DPS, Tank, and Healer... the DPS role wasn't a role at all.

Control was key, and that's just what the Elementalist excels at doing.

well said  image     I miss support roles like the EQ1 enchanter

    that's not what he said.

    a) dps IS a role

what he said was b) "that's not how it started, in EQ it started with tank, heal and controle".

I quoted the first 3 sentences under Elementalist -- word for word

(relook at article for self,  I just did)

    otherwise,its the same thing,

    started or originally  ..same meaning

dps is a boring and stupid role - tank can tank and dps, healer can heal and dps, support can support and dps, controler can control and dps... and a dps can...dps - one trick pony

And a well played chanter was the best dps in the game; I remember playing a wizard during GOD and I was control and the chanter controlled the pet for dps on flagging events; it was absolutely amazing.

Then SOE nerfed charmed pets so a mobs dps was reduced by a huge amount when it was a pet. Such a shame.

I played EQ2 longer than any other MMO and have high hopes for this game.  I think the folks at SOE are keenly aware of what is riding on this release.  Here';s hoping they get it right.  After spending the last couple years being wildly disappointed at the majority of MMO releases, I'm ready for a win.

The landscape has changed a lot.  I have beta tested many titles in the past, usually by providing feedback and spending a lot of time testing aspects of a game.  Today developers literally want to sell us a game and beta test it.  Guess what?  That's a factor with some of the balancing issues, etc.

The funny thing is most have failed with some pretty common problems; no end game, limp PVP, or lousy raiding/no raiding, server/stability issues at launch, repetitive endgame content, mechanics/balancing issues.  It's like some of the developers have forgotten why people play games.  We play them to have fun.  We play them online to be a part of a community.  If I want to play a single player game, well...I'll play a single player game..

Again..ready for a real win here..

I don't wanna see bloated bars either, but forcing me into 5-6 choices is too much. 10 would be fine IF I don't have to fight a cumbersome mechanic (I.e. weapons swapping looking at you, ESO) to access all 10 choices.
