Well it's EQ Next for the "Next" generation - so makes sense.

Current MMO players are not the target audience for EQN.

    You nailed it buddy!

It will be really hard going from this toI will try when that day comes (2017/18), but the gameplay better be damn good.

If I seeing things right thats a shot of ESO. If it is... not hard to go from that game to just about anything else lol. IMO you all are being way to hard in the avatars. I think they look like an awesome alpha shot of what they have.

I like the models, but I'm already over EQN and it's not even a game yet, I can't imagine being interested in another year or two.

Model and armor of the human male on the far left looks exactly like Landmark closed beta today.

I think it is an example of ESO, but it doesn't really escape the fact that, even as a 'rough copy' of how things will look, and i am not sure that there will be much improvement even over the next year or so that the game is in development, but, if it really is a rough example of how the avatars will look, then why go to all the trouble of advertising them to promote the game. Personally never mind the fact i don't like their chosen art style, i think overall it looks dated even by todays standards, and would probably struggle to compete with WoW just on graphics alone. EQ2 struggled with identity pretty much from the start, and looking at those avatars, makes me wonder if SOE is falling into the exact same trap they did with EQ2, rather than build upon the art styles they already had, they are 'borrowing' it seems from others, to me it just appears to lack having its own identity,  as nothing about them really identifies them as being Avatars in an Everquest gameimage

I did love the time I spent with ESO as well as EQ and EQ2, however I do choose more of the ESO style graphics in my fantasy games instead of a cartoonish style that is represented in EQN.

Hopefully the gameplay in EQN makes up for the avatar graphics they decided to go with.

Watching some footage from soe live now and human mage looks goofy, but dark elf warrior concepts looks great.

The ESO characters had high res, more realistic textures... but they were bland, lifeless, boring looking soul-less dolls.

EQN's characters are more stylized with the design, but they have a huge range of emotion that's easy to see and the facial animations are far more advanced.  They look way more alive and like real characters.

The style of EQN is aimed at achieving this effect of breathing more life into their characters.  I can understand some people preferring the more realistic look, but I for one am way more interested in EQN's character because of how much emotion they're a capable of displaying and how easy it is to see in game.

    @Phry & Trueway

The only "truth" I see is a lot of assumption on the overall quality of an MMO based on very little info. Phry, I agree that VG had the "spirit" of EQ's successor more than EQ2 but I bet you didn't come to that conclusion by some demo videos and screen shots. It took actually playing the game over a period of time I imagine.

You may never get to that point if the graphics turn you away but what I see right now is a bunch of nay-saying based on hardly anything. I really don't see the "copying" of "that other title". Many titles have more cartoonly looking graphics and it's funny to me that this aspect is being focused on as to what passion there is for the game. To each their own though.

Seriously though , I shall repeat myself yet again , I have and use 40 skills via my 360 controller for use within SWTOR. Also maybe he didn't watch last year's show. The reason they gave behind not having so many skills was because they don't want you focusing on your hotbars in combat but to be able to look at the actual gameplay. Blame the dev's not the peripherals.

I found a you tube video and I think EQ:N looks pretty cool actually.

But that's just me , still no leveling no me in game , shame as it might be a lot of fun.

The looks of the game have done damage. If you don't believe that then you aren't hearing the reaction on different boards and forums. The look of the game is the first thing anyone reacts to, but it can also affect willingness to try the game at all amongst non forum patrollers. The game may have a great "Personality" but in the looks department it has problems.

People are seeing things like Destiny and Black Desert then you try to get them to approach this game as some serious experience. No matter what it will always just be Disney Cartoons leaping like Aladdin through a temporarily destructible landscape (if you have played Landmark then you know how fast your changes to the world revert).

You want to be excited about the game, that's cool. But it seems like there is a lot of negative response to the art that fans of this far future release believe is going to magically disappear because:

    Game not even in Alpha

You are not Grown Up if you hate Cartoons

The Gameplay will make you forget it looks like a cartoon

    Game not even in Beta

    Models are necessary for performance

    Just now in Beta

    Minecraft had worse graphics

    Not optimized yet

    EQ2 was a terrible Game

    WoW was a great game

    etc.

I don't have any faith that those running excuses will make it the blockbuster they want it to be. Many have dismissed this game already

MMORPG players are often like Hobbits: They don't like Adventures

There are levels but not the standard kind. Your relative strength of the class you are playing is dependent on the tier of gear you have. Getting to the next "tier" would be similar to levels like raid tiered gear is. That is what was explained last year at least.

Hmm yeah I heard something similar , also I think the skills you learn have something to do with it too. I might try it when it's out as I do like the franchise.

    @sevenstar61

Yeah the flashing was / is a bit rough on the eyes , not as bad as PSU enducing seizures ( and that is no joke it happened ). Maybe they will tone it down a little though. The megid in PSO2 is quite an eye sore too.

Where the hell did you get that fact from?

Didn't say it was a fact but outside of shooters, racing, and sports, most genres have stylized games near or at the top. Even then games like Team Fortress 2 and Borderlands (FPS) and Mario Kart (Racing) still have decent popularity within their genres and are cartoony as it gets. MOBAs currently dominate in numbers and are stylized, WoW in mmorpg land along with EQ in it's time, indie games, Minecraft and Lego building games, FF franchise, Sim games, GTA, Nintendo as a whole, etc. Not to say there aren't very popular "realistic" games like Skyrim and COD, but people come off as if stylized/cartoon visuals are the worst thing ever and that no one enjoys them. OMG EQN isn't hyper realistic. No clue why anyone would assume it would be looking back at the franchise. They've clearly stated why they chose this design and people can either accept it or move on just like every other game.

Very good point Allein.  Some of the best crafted games that have hit the market have stylized or unrealistic graphics.

TF2 and Borderlands are a great example for shooters.  Insanely popular and as unrealistic graphically as it gets.

Mario Kart 8 is the highest selling game for this nintendo generation so far having sold 3 million units on a platform that's sold 6 million consoles lol.

You nailed it with insanely popular MOBAs too.

WoW is still the MMO leader with not only stylized but also insanely dated graphics that weren't even anything special technologically when it launched, say nothing about a decade later.

Minecraft is the highest selling PC game ever.  Only being beaten in general game sales by Wii Sports and Tetris lol.

Sims is also a huge financial success.

I'd also add there are a ton of simply amazing indie games that fantastic who have no where near high end graphics.  Games like terraria, FTL and shovel knight use only 2d sprites and are simply amazing titles

GW2 is a huge financial success as well, as the 2nd highest selling MMORPG of all time with nearly 7 million sales lol.

Seems that stylized graphics aren't nearly as bad as people are making them out to be.

I disagree.  It implies that they are trying to go with a title that flows better than EverQuest 3, which could be seen as "just another sequel".  I don't believe that their choice of names for the next EverQuest implies any deviation.  If that were the case they would put that out plainly for all to see, know and take to heart.

Yes, it's called EverQuest Next.  But I'm certainly not expecting them to release EverQuest 3 after this, are you?  I wish they would, but they would have outlined all of this by now.
