The only thing I can really see as "Pay 2 Win" with LP pots is trying to secure your mythic gear so you can roll face in PvP and make people hate you. But seeing how this game is RNG people are failing to realize that the people who are putting money into LP pots to craft the end game gear (your ultimate goal) is actually "Pay 2 Lose" unless you are incredibly lucky with the RNG.
You'll need luck with the RNG on Archeum boxes, you'll need luck getting all the material needed for mythic gear using LP. You're looking at thousands of dollars spent to get decked out in mythic gear, if not more. Good business decision on TRION's part because people will be spending so much money and the tears will flow when they can't roll mythic.
All hail RNG!
RNG is nothing a whale can't fix by simply throwing more money at the game.
Didn't get that rare item in your first $1,000 worth of archaem boxes? Throw another $1,000 at it until you do.
Your equipment fail to upgrade and get destroyed? Buy up another (directly or indirectly, whatever) and then throw $1,000 at re-grade scrolls and other cash shop items that increase the success rate until it does.
And people WILL do this. They're in every game. I've seen them and they are quite frightening.
If anything, RNG is where the biggest P2W comes from. That's why most P2W cash shops have these lottery boxes (RNG!) in the first place and also have cash shop items that increase your success rate (RNG!) of upgradnig items or decreases the chance of breaking on failure (RNG!) in the first place as well. It's highly successful and it basically means someone who doesn't pay thousands has like, a 0.1% chance (not an exageration. Some people posted the math behind making high end items at archeage and... it's not very different from most F2P games' upgrade systems) of making that epic item without it EXPLODING while that whale can simply throw more and more money at the stupid item until that blacksmith says "HEY, congrats! Upgrade successful!" a few thousand dollars later.
Again, there WILL be people that do that. Businesses wouldn't make lottery boxes and cash shop upgrade items if there weren't people willing to do that.
Note that in archeage, having better gear lets you slaughter multiple other people with weaker gear at once in a open-pvp game...

some ppl tend to spend thousands every month
now these ppl create a guild (becouse rich ppl like to stick with rich ppl)
and only thing you can do at this point is change the server
but then it happens on other server too
this will happen in any sandbox mmo with p2w shop
It already happened in Korea with ArchAge. Guilds dominate servers some even dominate multiple servers. That is why the game is failing over there. 4 Purchase regrade scrolls till you have the best armor in game
Totally not pay to win right?
Right, because you can't get better than anyone else.
Blame those who would buy the pots from the AH then, because it's their fault, that someone doesn't have to work for their gear.
Following your logic, patron is pay to win compared to f2p, isn't it?
As i said in another topic, all these topics are mainly created by people who spent 44-150 bucks for early access and patron status. And now they are upset because basically anyone can climb to their level with enough money.
So no, it's not about pay 2 win, it's about people being upset, because they haven't automatically became the top dogs with their first payment.
From what you just stated is the very essence of P2W. If someone with more money can obtain something faster and mostly out of reach of the rest that have limited budgets means it is a P2W concept. The fact is if you spend lots of money (some have done the math and it is in the hundreds to thousands range) you can and will be a wrecking ball, able to take on 10-20 at a time.
So, if someone pays for patron, that's completely fine to have advantage with it?
Because that's the point, but somehow whoever replyes to my posts, seem to skip this part very precisely.
And no, i don't believe it's p2w, since you can't get anything from the shop you can't acquire within the game.
So, someone is going to spend 5k dollars to be op for a few weeks, until the rest will catch up?
Once you have enough ingame currency to afford pots from AH. Will you refuse to use them because they are P2W, though you pay with your time investment for it, instead of real cash?
It is def pay 2 win kinda. Look at it this way, its like a poker game with no limit on the pot. Versus a poker game with a 15 dollar limit on the pot. So 6 people sit down with 15 bucks to play a good game of poker, and then some one sits down with 15 grand. All he has to do is set his 15 grand on the table, and no one can win, because they cant match him.
In this though, you can match the player with 15 grand, if you spend more time playing. The question really comes down to how long is that going to take. I will say this, dont play this game if you cant handle gambling. These sucker shops always end up taking peoples money, and I know some people who spend money they cant afford to spend.
The whole concept is offensive to me, in a game like this, which at its very nature is competitive. Its going to be like this, some ones going to sit down, and lose lose lose. Get tired of losing, and go spend 200 bucks to get the gear to beat the guy who killed him. Then that guy is going to do the same, and the next guy, and the next guy. Its just a terrible business model with no morals, but so is a casino and there are plenty of them around.
As for me I am going to stick with BF4 for PVP, cant pay to win there lol, never understood the desire for mmorpg pvp, when they are all gear grind based. With ESO for rpging, unless they go this route and go here give me 200 bucks, and ill give you the best gear in the game.......

I 100% agree with this and anyone that thinks the current AA Cash shop will keep AA a float for long is lost. I am tired of Kool Aid drinking people who cannot open their own eyes.
Originally posted by Ludwik You can indirectly obtain the best gear through the cash shop.
How that qualifies as winning is beyond me. Games are about the journey, not the end result.
Well, one of the point of most MMOs is to get the best gear in the game, that is the reason people in so many MMOs spend so long time raiding and farming.
Making it very easy to get that gear for people who pay means one less goal for them, besides that it makes life really miserable for anyone not paying to get gear of course.
The whole point of the game is more than just getting good gear but this still isn't good.
Yes but if someone pays their way to top gear, why does that concern you?
Why are you so willing to accept being at a disadvantage to a player that lives in Mom's basement, chugging energy drinks and pooping into a bucket but unwilling to concede the advantage to a full-time working Dad raising two kids?
This is where the whole anti-pay for advantage argument falls apart.
The no-lifer who contributes nothing to society should not have an advantage. You know what he should do, he should go get a job and pay for the entertainment he's enjoying.
Pay for advantage is an improvement over the crapola we had ten years ago.

I'll tell you why.
1st, it's not "that player", it's "those players" And very soon, "those players" will begin to form guilds together. And shortly there after, the "Who cares about the top 1%?" becomes "Who cares about the top 5%?" which becomes "Who cares about the top 10%?" But by that time, the that top 10% will own everything and the rest of the game will not even be able to take a dump without the top guild(s) having a say about it.
You think you can ignore them, but I am certain, they won't be ignored for long and it won't be long before you WILL care.
This is what happened over in Korea. And the reason it wasn't going to happen here was because Trion was going to handle the Cash Shop differently. But Trion isn't handling the cash shop differently, so what makes you think the same thing happening over there isn't going to happen here?
Okay, lets for arguments sake say the guild PWNU2 dominates your server in every way. The AH, trade runs, PVP, everything.
Two simple options immediately come to mind. One, is to join them, Now you can do whatever you want in game, which is what you wanted in the first place. Happy happy joy joy.
Two, stop playing. Eventually they will get bored if they have no one to dominate. In today's age of gaming too many new things are coming out for anyone to really stick to any one game for more than a few months tops. You can always come back to the game when these people have moved on... and they ultimately do move on. Happy happy joy joy.
Plenty of folks bailed out on a lot of MMOs only to come back to them years later to play it again.
Odds are, you won't be playing the game long enough for this so-called world domination to take hold. Not only will you tire of it, so will they. All there needs to be is a new shiny MMO release and poof, everyone jumps to the new game in an instant. All one needs to do is look back on the past 3 years of MMO releases to know this is always the case.
the real question should be: what activity you can do without LP.
also, the LP is not the main problem, pay a sub and it's all fixed. HOWEVER, i decided to never again play this game after the recent patch which has shown the low and bastardly ways of trion. the cash shop is already a money grab, but they decided to buff the LP potions drastically! and they added the acheum crates! basically, a component of about 90% of the crafting recipes that was quite hard to obtain, and that somewhat created a fair trading atmosphere between the cash shoppers and the other people that only paid a sub and thought that it was enough.
honestly, this game is all about who has the best stuff and the best is crafted, so if you don't want to be wiped by a level 42 cash shopper when you are lvl 50 "because the guy could skip all the hard farming and collection of the precious material". seriously, i mean it, SERIOUSLY stay away from this game.
i originally thought that the game would not be as much of a money grab as it was in korea or russia because it would be published by TRION!! the same company that offered us that wonderful business model on RIFT! but it turns out that they are going on a whole new level of money grabbing cash shop... just sad.

<Killer Whales> A premier guild on this server, with current active members each averaging several hundred dollars per month or more, in the cash shop is now looking to expand our horizons (Seeing as how we already own everything) So, we are now opening up our recruiting to include "Freeloaders" Now, please keep in mind, at 1st you really won't be able to contribute anything to the guild, but that's OK, we'll continue to spend money in the shop in order to carry you to success, and allow you to ride our coattails until such a time as you can give back.
Please contact in game for details.
Thank you.
.....................yeah, good luck with that one.

Well, im not really into gambling or poker.
But i can tell you that, you got this entire situation wrong.
Because you assume, whoever buys pots can't be caught up with, which is wrong.
Not to mention the fact, you completely ignored those who sit at the table with 0 bucks.
Let's go with another example.
While you will get to where you want eventually from 15 bucks on your Moped(Patron).
Someone else rather take a sports car, and burn a lot more money to get to his destination (Pot).
Although you could reach with just your bike (F2P).
Now, both of the motorcyclist and the biker could just hitch a ride in the car (Pots on AH).
Sure, you will have to work for it, since no one rides for free. But that's given since you rather don't spend on maintaing a car.
I hope this comes across well, im not very good with examples.

I said their were two simple solutions that immediately came to mind... these are not the only ones. Besides, we all know you won't be playing the game so really, you already chose option two... so it's really not that ridiculous now is it?

Well, I agree with your 2nd option. And that's what I have decided to do. As much as I wanted a game like this one and have been watching AA for some time, I refuse to support this business model. Mostly for the implications it has on the future of the genre. As for option 1. That's the one I think is ridiculous. They aren't exactly going to welcome you with open arms if you aren't "contributing" like they are.
This whole think reeks of Trion / XL maximizing the effectiveness of the hype wave to cash in while it's still hot and don't really give a flying **** for the long term future, or maybe they believe they can make the necessary changes later when the flow starts to decrease, I don't know, but this has to be the worst business model I have ever seen a game in this genre launch with since I started playing years ago.
When a lot of people say P2W what they mean is that, for them, getting to level cap and having the best gear FIRST is THE win. It's a Nintendo platform side-scroller mentality.

I'm going to go ahead and give it a try as a F2P player and if I really enjoy it I might dump a little cash on it. That is sort of what F2P is supposed to be about you know?
I mean I played Hearthstone more than any other game in the past year and never spent a dime on it. Played a bunch of Path of Exile and only bought a few bank tabs. Refused to even try the sub fee MMORPG that came out since you have to dump so much cash just to find out if you like it or not that it isn't worth it to me.

I see, so you mean to tell me, i will get beaten at midway and i'll never reach my destination if i take the bike?
Might as well make a topic where you tell everyone that would take a bike, not to do.
Since those who are ahead of them, are stronger.
But you know what? Good luck with the 2 sports car and with the 2 bats, on the Tour de France~
Since only the minority can afford the sports car, i wouldn't fear them, especially if i hitch a ride,
(pots on ah) which option had been ignored, again.
Might wanna read that if youre worried about all the rage over P2W.
Nothing really answered i just read a lot of "looking at data" . And nothing about the Lp pot Cd reduction, unless i missed it. What i got from that and reading comment on the page the DEv linked, they reduced the drop rate of crystals and dusts ingame to the point of nothing and moved them to the crates on the shop. That's doesn't really sound good at all, that just worsens my view , the overall change just make me think trion or who ever is making these changes has no really feeling for the economy of the game.
The math as been done, if you want you can have a 9x advantage over someone who doesn't buy potions. You get 9x more labor points if you buy the potions. The shift comes really from Archeum, now almost all Archeum will come from the shop. This is used in all the good crafts. Even if you sub, you can't do any thing with your subscription without also buying Labor Points and Archeum from the shop. So You have to pay for your subscription, buy LP, and Archeum in order to play the full game. At least in other Subscription games the stuff in the shop is mainly cosmetic and not required to play.

It already happened in Korea with ArchAge. Guilds dominate servers some even dominate multiple servers. That is why the game is failing over there. Good video WHY AA is P2W.
I 100% agree with this and anyone that thinks the current AA Cash shop will keep AA a float for long is lost. I am tired of Kool Aid drinking people who cannot open their own eyes.
Especially on a second language.
“Microtransactions? In a single player role-playing game? Are you nuts?”

Nope buddy, you got it wrong. This is a PvP game.
----
The guy with the sports car is going to wait every crossing with a baseball bat to fuck you up real good, keeps your bike to sell it while you get teleported back to the hospital and you got to buy a new bike to try again.

You pay more money = you get more stuff. P2W.
No need to make it complicated.
Possibly the best explanation I have seen yet, haha.
It's a very stupid explanation.
You pay more money = you get BETTER stuff. P2W. Paying for convenience isn't pw2
