Planetside 2 is over a year old and it outdoes Destiny in almost every aspect IMO (especially when it comes to stuff that matters to me - such as massive number of players fighting)
I can respect your point of view, but suppose we could make the argument that Destiny outdoes PS2 in every single aspect that matters to me (such as PvE experience).
I do agree that the PvP experience is lacking, but based on my understanding and what I'm hearing from people playing the game, the PvE experience is actually very good and the difficulty has been ramped up since beta. I'll wait to cast my own verdict I suppose.
Either way, with PS2 coming to console, why try to compete with something that does PvP so well already?
Oh, one last thing, technically it is AN evolution of the FPS genre. Actually it's quite a drastic evolution. They've gone a completely different direction, focusing on providing a ton of PvE content opposed to the expected 5 hours of content in most FPS games these days.
Planetside 2 is over a year old and it outdoes Destiny in almost every aspect.
Please explain.
I am guessing you have been playing Destiny on console too? can you break down these aspects for us?
Massive battles involving 1000s of players - including land/air vehicles -
Destiny's scope - 6 players.
PS2 - huge world maps
Destiny - small single playable map per world.
The scope of PS2 - massive
The scope of Destiny - small
PS2 - free to play
Destiny - $60
Yes PS2 is a PvP only game - but it blows Destiny out of the water in terms of longevity and replay - because PS2 is a MMO, it is massive in terms of scale and numbers of players - Destiny is not.
All of the above is 100% my opinion based on my *personal preference* for games that cater to massive online battles.
Personal opinion or not you are still comparing apples to oranges.
Comparing Defiance to Destiny would be more apt comparison in which case Destiny completely out does Defiance (my opinion ofcourse)
The game is extremely polished with very high production standards. And it is a joy to play.
Evolution of the FPS genre? Definitely not.
Imho When it comes to FPS's the games who set the bar are the Half Life ones.
Also, Destiny is mainly PvE and secondary PvP. That's the impression i got after playing about 4 hours on my brothers PS4 (while babysitting for him ).
If the PC port is good then i will probably buy it.
The game is extremely polished, but lacking and the following are the reasons why:
1. Race is a skin, there are three races.
2. There are only three classes. There isn't a tremendous difference between the classes. Two or three skill options that differentiate classes other than the names.
3. It has to be the smallest land area to explore in a so called "MMO" I've ever seen launch. Off the top of my head I would say the land mass is possibly not even half of the vanilla World of Warcraft size.
4. There's no end game content outside of poorly planned PvP they didn't innovate here. Do not expect COD or even Halo quality pvp. However, if you love shooting people with shotguns or rocket launchers this game is for you.
5. The game includes content on Earth, Mars, Venus, and the Moon. Each planet contains a single strike mission (group dungeon). There is no "end game" content outside of daily quest and faction grinding.
6. There are only 20 character levels. At the current rate most people will have a character of every class to max level in less than a month. Anyone that is dedicated already has this achieved in the first week of release.
In summary, most people won't get much more than 48 hours of game play before they are bored. Anyone that took part if the beta testing and did the moon missions has already seen 30% of the content. This is another example of the gaming industry (especially Activison) getting one over on all of us. I'm pretty upset because I had hoped for a much better product after having seen the extensive marketing for the past 6 months.
An example: I play shooters with some older guys in their 50s that couldn't grasp the concept of borderlands 2 quests and never maxed a character in that game. Currently five days after release six of those same older guys (in their 50s) have a max level character and three others are probably going to level cap today. I'm not saying a game needs to be overly complicated to enjoy, but there should be some degree of difficulty. Halo took longer to beat and the pvp was better, and I've never been a fan of Halo pvp.
Originally posted by Thane i actually think star citizen is the most pre ordered IP in history, but that's just me thinking that 50million++ are alot ^^
I agree with you, Star Citizen holds the record for the most anticipated game in history, however maybe, not saying it is, but maybe Destiny is most anticipated for consoles as Sites like this have over hyped its limited content.
If Bungie had made 53 million Dollars(current average) from just the player base in development then I would be impressed, however the scope of Destiny leaves many wanting and as has become tradition its done half assed.
Expansive world... not, Multiplayer... limited, Instanced... typical drollness, only 4 planets at release... small....
Star Citizen:
150+ star systems at release,
more than 30 ships plus more on the way for not only single play but multi players on a single ship,
10 million polys per pixel with PBR level graphics,
Player run economy, organizations, Story lines, play how you want-be what you want game play, contiguous story development based on players action in game.
Hands down Star Citizen has been the most anticipated game in history as many have reported. Setting Kickstarter records, Crowd funding records and even Guinness Book of World Records.
And thats all while in development. Lets be serious, Destiny is a has been before its development, Most of the current games in development are including EQN. The games that set the standard and raise the bar are those who will be successful and lead the industry into the future.
The current model of game design is lack luster and stagnant. Its a good thing Cris Roberts came back to give gamers and Publishers a dearly needed swift kick in the arse!
I just giggle at console numbers. Its the perfect platform to take advantage of hype and accessibility, what started as a basic gaming platform has become the surrogate mother to 3 generations of kids / now adults, I'm not surprised one bit by these numbers, and they will only get bigger.
"Did you get Destiny yet?"
"NO"
"NO? Are you retarded? Go buy it right now or your not my friend anymore and Ill have nothing to talk to you about!"
