This game is heavily competitive owpvp game, just like it's predecessors this game has a complete sandbox approach which also includes optimal money making. But since it is competitive no one..absolutely no one will spill the beans for others. there are already people who are making tons of gilda star just by playing the game and already stocking up huge amount of archeum just by playing, they have already worked out the optimal gameplay and they will never tell others how they are doing it until a couple of months have gone and new tier of money making option is on the way, I am guessing "some" of the people here who are telling others that the real game starts at 30 and until then everyone should just suck up the horrible pve have also worked out the optimal gameplay and just telling us to do pve so that we don't figure it out. such is the nature of competitive sandbox mmorpg.
Boobs are LIFE, Boobs are LOVE, Boobs are JUSTICE, Boobs are mankind's HOPES and DREAMS. People who complain about boobs have lost their humanity.
Been there done that. Everybody loves the new game, for a couple of months its the best game ever ,then come back here saying how bad it is making threads of why it failed .

Tell me what makes it a themepark besides having Quests you dont have to do. EVE has quests and it is a Sandbox is it not?
That is my point, just because there are quests does not make it a themepark or sandbox.
As I said, the keyword is leveling up - vertical progression. EVE design is horizontal, you start in a frigate and you can play in frigate 5 years later because the game is not designed with vertical progression. You do not progress in that game, frigates are no less powerful than battleships, they are different.
Same cannot be said about ArcheAche tho, the vertcial progression is essential there just like in any themepark game - progress through power curve via levels and gear to hit end game.

Sorry, most of those things you described AA having are in other games, which are themepark. Raiding has nothing really to do with describing a title as a sandbox game and/or the PvP in it, but those things can be incorporated.
To me, and this is just my opinion, a sandbox is when a game is designed that drops you in a virtual world with tools that you use to mold the environment around you. Just because you have a bunch of major things like a house or a frigate, doesn't make it a sandbox, it's the little things that you use to achieve, build, or craft them.
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

Sadly you re missing the main point of his post, just to justify what you think is a sandbox. To me it s pretty clear.
Maybe I am can you In detail explain to me what a Sandbox is . Thanks in advance for taking the time to do it.
Picture a kid and a sandbox. Tell them go to it. That's a sandbox. The point of the previous post is not how it s similar to EVE but how you progress in levels etc. That's whats pretty clear to me.
I like how this Soki guy dodges the question. Proudsoul asked you to explain what a sandbox is. Your answer is really just beating around the bush cause you dont have a real answer by the looks of it. Give us an example of what a sandbox MMO is. For example, game X is a sandbox because of reason x, y, z etc.
We all know what the meaning of the word sandbox is. But what does it mean in the context of MMOs?

Sandbox is freedom to do whatever you want with the tools provided . In a sandbox's case the tools provided is sand .
The tools provided in AA is combat , crafting , building , exploring .
AA seems to meet the requirements of a sandbox but it has a themepark put into the sandbox via questing 1-30 .
I ended up getting the 150 bundle just before it went to early start since some of my friends got it and I have to say this is one of the best mmorpgs I have played. Really, really good. And this comes from a guy that avoids all asian games like a plague.

Seems like everyone is enjoying it there is a que on every server about 30 mins long it appears . Currently 600 players behind me and 200 in front .
And this is in the early access lol . Imagine when it goes live free to play .
There are two versions of Archeage, the Free (let's say "Basic") version and the Patron Version. They exist within the same game, but offer different experiences. Just because you can have a farm and a house, does not mean you "win". Even though you can craft more, it doesn't mean you automatically win. And even if it did, $15 a month isn't that much to ask to seriously compete in a AAA MMO
Give it a rest, they fixed the P2W for now... sure it could change, but for now it's fine.
Edit: the game opens up at 20 for the most part. You can basically do anything a level 50 can except for take place in the open PvP warzones, which is at lvl 30.
Now Playing: Bless / Summoners War Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile

Nobody is saying that Patron makes it p2w.
Item shop in other hand... Even mobile gaming is left behind, its simply disgusting.
It's kind of boring for me so far. Standard faire fantasy mmorpg. Spam 1 or 2 buttons for every encounter. Only level 14 though, so could be that will change later. I like riding double on mounts though.

at levels 20-30 the game opens up and I agree before that it is a tutorial for not AA, but MMORPGs in general lol. When you feel that sense of freedom depends on the player. All i will say is; don't be afraid to stray from the path.

Originally posted by zzax Its generic themepark, similar to everything we get after WoW. It must be your first MMO, if you like it.
You must have not played it. There is a Themepark part of the game BUT you do not have to do ANY quests if you dont want too I leveled to 50 3 times in Alpha without a single quest. It must be your first MMO if you think AA is just a themepark game OR you never played it .
No quests? Even many of the fans of this game are telling us the questing part is the tutorial and, depending on who you talk to, tells you it only opens after lvl 30 or 50. I played beta through lvl 13 and found questing all over the place. Im not sure what else there was for me to do at this point. Are you talking about having reached max level and then starting another character? I didnt see any other options for me.
Build a ship and become a pirate. Start a farm and become a Merchant prince. Form a merc company and rage war on the other faction. Start a guild and build a castle or lay siege to others castles.
There's a few sandbox ideas for you that don't require one quest and is totally up to your imagination.
Currently just doing the themepark part of the game which appears to be a tutorial / story .
Wow if you like that generic bs, then I have good news for you, its till lvl 50.
It is ? I am level 30 and I stopped 90% of my questing beside the small dailies and story jst for gilda. Im now trading back and forth across the sea me and 10 of my guild mates are offering safe passage with a 60% return if you die in our hands so Again where did YOU get your info from ...oh yea the forums like the rest of the non playing sheep here.

SandPark IS a good thing to call it. Just like EVE which everyone says is a Sandbox but it has quests so I guess EVE is NOT a sandbox its a Sandpark.
Now if you excuse me we have to go kill some pirates that raided our ship,
I took the risk after watching some twitch streamers and purchased the founder pack .
Having a blast so far . I read a lot of negative comments on forums and to be honest I have to say they must be working for another company trying or something because the game is AWESOME.
Didn't get any ques , no lag , no bugs working perfectly for me .
Currently just doing the themepark part of the game which appears to be a tutorial / story .
The only negative so far is the founder pack gifts I haven't received yet but the server message said it could take a while due to huge number of players . Kinda want my glider tho they look awesome : )
I too am having a blast. I'm glad you posted this.
I didn't play alpha/beta, but I decided to take the plunge at the last minute before the headstart began. The game is very fun / addicting. I am glad I didn't let the negative posts surrounding this game stop me from giving it a shot.
I don't understand the need for posters to try and convince others as to what to classify the game. It's almost as if being labeled a "theme park" is a bad name and any game classified as such is horrible and should be crucified. WoW is a theme park and its the most successful MMORPG ever with a player base that still totals in the 6-7 millions. There is no shame in being labeled a "theme park" so long as the game is fun. Most of the more successful MMORPGs have been theme parks. Who cares what some want to classify it so long as YOU are having fun playing it.
Having said that, AA is a hybrid game. It does start out as a theme park and you can play it as such, if you choose, until level 50. The key point here is that you don't have to follow the quest line if you choose not to. It is a convenient choice that will guide you to gain a better understanding of the game and systematically acquire some of the basic necessities. If these quests where not offered and people where simply dumped in the world to find their way we would have a lot more whining about what to do than the whining we get now from people that do not like quests. Call it a necessary evil but one does not have to engage in it if one doesn't want to. Once one hits level 50, however, it turns into a complete sand box. You are on your own to do as you please from then on.
It's definitely not a full fledged Sandbox...I'd say Wurm is the ultimate true sandbox game...compare it to that....you can't.
I think that right now it's a sad time for the MMO industry as more and more bad games come spewing out of the industry "toilet" like fecal matter you want so badly to brush off your face.
With that and a lack of mediocre sandbox options, AA goes from being good to an exaggerated "great" game. It does everything you'd it expect it to do, but has a generic approach to it. Crafting is knee deep in extra unnecessary steps to craft the simplist things so that the cash shop will be used. Housing looks like a jumbled mess of houses and farms packed tighter than projects in a ghetto. The PVE aspect is bland and soulless.
The one thing that appears to have been done with some precision is the boats which are awesome. But that doesnt make up for the rest of the mediocrity that plagues this game.
I think if this game came out the same time SWG or The Repopulation did, it wouldn't stand a chance...since it game out during a time when everything sucks...it's gonna gain traction.
Originally posted by zzax Its generic themepark, similar to everything we get after WoW. It must be your first MMO, if you like it.
WoW sucks BADLY and so do all games following it, but AA seems to be pulling away by adding proper elements to a nice themepark (e.g. sandbox?!) So this is a good change of pace!

If I die in pvp I lose, if I kill in pvp I win. Yes, you can win in MMO.
So WoW is a sandbox too now because you can reach max level just gathering?
Archeage is not very sandy imo ,I would barely call it a sandpark.
Yep, themeparks do have crafting.
Pity you ignored post you replied to...

for me having fun is winning. I played ultima online for 3 years and considered that a sandbox.
This is game has that feeling in it but definitely the Wow factor has heavily influenced the questing
part of the game at the start.
Too early to say if this game will be for me in 6mth but I'm having fun now and to me that is winning . Especially
having played FF14 to the point I had to quit due to nothing to do in end game apart from
wait for weekly raids to unlock.
