imo i think the stealth should be placed only for balance purposes but when its soo imbalanced it makes everyone rage...maybe "they / devs" could start making a stealth class that does less damage while stealthed that way the stealth class would be more focused on fighting to2toe with someone or a classes..but yes i agree the burst inta kill while hidden is and always seem to be way op
@AlBQuirkyPoint is, stealth is hard countered by just predicting actions of a stealth class. No perma stealth class can kill you in one shot. That thing dont exist. Just dont. Mostly they can stun lock you, but one stun breaker and you are free. So you only get killed if you are bad.
Now there is burst but class which can use it need one/more of following:
a)all RNG Gods need alling in a moment of perfect clarity which is just pure luck. And noexistent. Or the Cthulhu will rise propably.
b) very, very complex rotation which can be blocked easily. Stun lock rogue withour stun lock (because stun breakers) just look very, very stupid and sad.
c) attack player who is low lvl/worse gear/any disproportion between the two.
And i really, really cant recall any situation where 2 equally skilled player compete against each other and one get insta killed. Never, ever in a world. That things just dont happen.
People just qq about stealth.
And sustained dmg ninjas dont have insta stealth, or they get it ONE time. Just one. And it is over for them if they dont kill you. And they dont do this with a opener. They are stun locks. Bursters pwn noobs. As it should be. Cause any skilled player will wreck them across battlefields.
Also, ninjas are naturall counters to any idiot who play glass canon without defense. Yes, they should be killed by thiefs/rogue/assassins. Rock - Paper - Scissors.
@aliven, my big problem with stealth, and I enjoy playing a stealth character, is that it has nothing to do with stealth (using shadows, moving slowly and deliberately, using the environment to your advantage) but rather insta-invisibility, undetectable by normal means. Many MMOs even allow a stealth player to trigger stealth, errr... invisibility during the battle to become invisible again.

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse. - FARGIN_WAR
Because it is a game. You need mechanics that are just fun to use and to use against you. Using stealth only with shadows or some dim light would be overall stupid. It is not a single player game with predictable patrols.
Almost every MMO with stealth use it as a invisibility of some sort. But never invulnerability. You still take space, you still can be hit and even killed. And you mostly dont have the biggest burst in the game.
People dont like stealth cause they will panic when something unexpected happen, like player just showing near them and stun locking/bursting them.
Playing against your mind. Much like mesmers in GW2.
First of all an intelligent developer knows you have to give up some cool ideas to make pvp FAIR and plausible. It works great with PVE ideas but is o/p in pvp ideas.Really it is impossible to balance pvp so you need an incredible team of smart people that can make pvp FAIR whilst never having balance.
Stealth should NOT mean totally invisible,it is suppose to mean tough to see not impossible to see.IMo it should be a perhaps a clear type animation that lasts maybe 10 seconds.Anyone who has played a lot of games has seen what i am talking about for sure,it would be still very hard to see the player but if you look closely you would be able to spot such a player.
You most definitely cannot have fast killing combat, you need armor penetration and reactive combat with LOTS of choices and mechanics to make it skillful.A perfect example is a Stamina bar and going stealth would use up a lot of Stamina. Then the Rogue player would weak armor but could also regenerate armor if so desires but would again use up a lot of Stamina.Basically what i am saying is the Rogue would have a lot of high end but not last long,he would be a burst type player including speed bursts to gain distance if needed but could not run for long.Other classes could be designed for longevity.
You need depth in systems,if combat is designed super lazy with just a ton of skills and nothing more than spamming your hot bar,i would not give it the tiem of day and steer clear of it.
