How is the population now that Archeage has launched?

unclemounclemo Member UncommonPosts: 462
Hello all. I am having a blast right now playing Archeage and I noticed that the server I am on has a ton of guilds that have come over from ESao recently. Even though ESO wasn't for me, I still hope it does well.

Also did they give any love to nightblades yet?

I've noticed no drop at all, nor heard any talk about it in chat. I thought there would be more buzz in Cyrodiil chat being that AA is a pvp game, but there wasn't.

From perspective (pvp'r) AA has some interesting systems that I'm sure I would enjoy. The problem I have is that AA's combat and look is much older than ESO's. It's too much for me to give up.

And why should AA have any effect on ESO?

You can tell what is happening to the population by looking at your guild, some of the trading guilds are very large. On that basis the population of TESO had a huge spike after launch then declined as you would expect for any MMO. It has been relatively unaffected by WS and AA. I don't see those three aiming for the same sort of player, so that's not surprising.

AA is a much more in depth (professions, land, farms, housing, open water, etc) game than ESO, some people like that some don't.  The quest system in AA is there to introduce you to the mechanics of the game not to be the game, so in regards to storyline ESO's is much deeper.

Both games are quality.  The way I see it, people more into questing, storyline, ESO lore, solo play will prefer ESO, while people that are more into guild community, open world PvP, faster paced combat, housing, RPing, and open sea combat will prefer AA.

P.S. - AA has more of a UA type feel in that consequences are very real.  For example when questing, if you die you lose XP.  If you are running a trade run and you get ganked, the gankers can take your trade packs.  You have a boat, pirates attack it and destroy it, it's very expensive to repair.  I personally like that, I am sure some people would hate it.

    Yeah good luck on that.

I haven't noticed any change at all. In fact the only real change I have noticed is a decline about one month after release, which was similar to other games I have played. If you only read this forum and didn't play the game, you would think most players left, but when I play the game I really haven't noticed much change (after that first month or so). I have seen very little buzz about other games, surprisingly little in fact. I think I have seen only two mentions of AA, ever, in ESO chat, and I play pretty much every day.

True, the megaserver hides some of this, but it doesn't make as much difference as some people imply because there seem to be far fewer 'instances' of the megaserver  than there used to be at release.

    Elladan - ESO (AD)
    Camring - SWTOR (Ebon Hawk)
Eol & Justinian - Rift (Faeblight)
Ceol and Duri - LotRO (Landroval)
    Kili - WoW
    Eol - Lineage 2
    Camring - SWG
    Justinian (Nimue), Camring - DAoC

    Eso has gotten way busier

Seems that Archeage players are playing ESO while they're waiting in the que.

It's more a question of how does it feel.  Does it feel populated and thriving?  Yes.

Exactly - megaservers always feel populated.

I disagree.  I felt very alone at times when playing GW2,  I've yet to have that feeling in ESO.  It's all in the execution and design,

The population in ESO seems to be growing constantly. Sometimes there are so many people at the bank, it's ridiculous.

The guilds I'm in keep growing. My stuff sells in less than 24 hours, so I'm always making money from selling stuff through one of my trade guilds. It sells faster now than a month ago, so I'm seeing our numbers keep rising (in our guild).

There's always someone to play the game with, or group up with. Lots going on all the time!

I don't think Archeage has any effect - mostly because if you're an Elderscrolls fan, you're going to want to play all the quests and get into the game. Different audience, but that doesn't mean I won't try Archeage at some point. At the moment, it sounds like there are too many issues for me to want to bother.

I haven't noticed a drop at all, as a matter of fact, at 1:00PM PST I had over 200 guildies online, and I only belong to 3 guilds.  I don't think AA will have an effect on ESO, I and like minded ppl really like this game and don't plan on leaving anything soon.

When I said i had "time", i meant virtual time, i got no RL "time" for you.

why would anyone leave a thriving MMO for another MMO where you cant even get in the game unless you wait 4-8 hours?

could you imagine the outcry if ESO had a launch like that? lol

  • unclemounclemo Member UncommonPosts: 462
Yea because ESO's launch was sooooo smooth....NOT! Anyways glad to see ESO is doing well.

It is not impossible to judge if you look at cyrodil numbers. Which have been about the same.

Who knows. I was playing ESO before Archeage. I stopped ESO not because of aa but for other reasons.

Players who would really enjoy AA would not normally be ESO players and vice versa. A bit of a different mind set required for both with little overlap IMO.

I enjoy rambling around ESO's PVE enough without the possibility of being killed lol even though the housing and territory politics of a sandbox would be nice to be a part of.

Possibly getting ganked in Cyrodill is excitement enough for me I'm afraid.

Well, I would assume it's the fact that a single person can't in two places at the same time.

And that was ESOs first launch.  What's AAs excuse?

So even using mega servers, GW2 feels like its 'unpopulated' bit of an epic fail move then if it didn't fix that particular issue with the game. But regardless, using mega servers does mean that its not possible to gauge player numbers with any accuracy, although cyrodiil itself should give some kind of indication, although there are all kinds of reasons why even that may not be all that accurate a measure of overall player numbers.image

ESO seems to be getting more and more populated. Purely ancedotal based on my observation of common meeting areas like banks.

Free For All PvP with little consequence and an outdated combat system is why ESO fans will not flock to it.  Although I like both games and am continuing to play both at a very casual approach.

Even if Zenimax and the megaserver do not give us an idea this might.

This is why mega servers rock! still feels as packed as launch.
