Ever since I installed ArcheAge my pc started going slower. At first I didn't even think that its archeage, after all its within Glyph, when its closed whatever damage it can do should be gone right? Wrong!
My 240gb SSD was getting filled within minutes and emptied over and over and over again even though I wasn't playing ArcheAge. So I started looking around with people with similar issues. At that point I was blaming a virus

The first comment explains it all. If you have an SSD and you use DirectX 11 do as the first poster says OR use the lesser version of DirectX until Trion and XL games fixes the bug. With the limited write cycles, this is bad for your SSDs. The least, change your pagefile's location
And no this doesn't only happen to the suckers with low RAM, below are my specs:
CPU: Intel i5-2500k @ 4.0GHz
RAM: 16gb Corsair Arctic White DDR3 (4x 4gb)
GPU: AMD R9 290X
SSD: 2x Intel 520 SSD 240gb each
HDD: 500gb WD Caviar Black
As you can see, a PC that is more than capable at handling anything AA can throw at it (yes i do play on highest of settings with high FPS) yet this memory leak fucks up my system.
Be warned people!
P.S: Looking further into the issue, it seems that ArcheAge is not playing well with Microsoft Security Essentials which is the default AV on both Win 7 and Win 8. Adding the game to the list of whitelisted apps solves some of the issues.

I thought it was my rig at first. But it wasnt. So my two clients run diffrently.

Yeah. I do enjoy the game so far but just seeing my PC going all numb like that even AFTER I close ArcheAge made me reconsider if its worth playing this game. Will monitor the situation after I add glyph and archeage to MSE whitelist.
It matters where your Pagefile.sys file is located at. Where you installed AA is of no concern to this issue.
Yeah i did that and rebooted. The writes still happen. There's process activating "Antimalware Service Executable" that does 250+ mb/sec writes so once I launch ArcheAge I have to reboot in order to stop those writes. Which is weird because my gf doesn't have those issues with far inferior PC and Windows 7. I suppose the game doesn't play well with Windows 8. And I love my Windows 8, no game is going to change that. They better start working...or they are about to lose a paying customer.
But seriously, this is 32bit game, there is no way in hell this game could use more than a fifth of my available RAM. This pagefile shit is beyond me.
My not so professional conclusion is:
I play a lot of games and none of them fills up my SSD. The fact that I'm not the only one in this (the reddit thread and many others) speaks for it.
Just google "Antimalware Service Executable archeage" and awe at the results. I am pretty sure that the game doesn't play well with Windows Defender (the Microsoft antivirus) and its overreacting. But that only means that the game is triggering procedures that Windows Defender consider harmful. That's more than enough for me to never again activate this game until the issue is resolved. I value my privacy and security. I know from where every file came to be on my PC and I'm the only one using it. I never use pirated software be it games or professional software. The free software I use is ALWAYS downloaded from the vendor's website and nowhere else.
Don't underestimate me, I do this shit for living and I'm telling you that AA is doing something that it shouldn't. Maybe its not AA, maybe its the HackShield, the fact remains...
There's a few things about SSD's that most people don't realise. One of them is NEVER have a page file on an SSD.
Take a look at this link for some other tips at improving performance on a system with an SSD.

Obviously he knows. Didn't you read the previous post?
"Don't underestimate me, I do this shit for living and I'm telling you that AA is doing something that it shouldn't...."
if you use a normal HD or at least the window paging in on your HD, the max it will happen is a lower FPS around 40-60, with a directx9 you can go around 120, this problem is with a SSD, it is doing something wrong? yes it is, what we can really do? for now? hope trion fix it, and a good fix, not the "fixes" they did with the game till now
Could you explain me what is the point of having SSD than ?
Having page file on SSD enables system to access page almost as fast as RAM. This is exactly what makes the huge performance increase when using SSD.
Yep having the same exact issues here with the game. Windows 8 user as well... I gave up, not changing my system settings for a single game. No SSD here though.

Are you really blaming peoples PCs for this issue, as well as possible malware/virus issues?
Edit- And we wonder why people hate Hackshield... as it typically is, it's the culprit. Next time try being objective and helpful instead of hipster know it all..

DX9= separate EXE?
I don't see an option in glyph to switch to dx9, and I can't get in game due to this issue..It just freezes up and goes 100% disc usage after I hit play. Afterward I'm stuck waiting for my pc to open task manager so i can shutdown AA and reset my PC.

Hold on there. Are other AV products detecting the same? Sounds like MSE is just giving a false positive. Add an exclusion and be done with it.
Oh come on. Because he uses an AV you frown down upon?
Not sure if this is the exact same problem as the O/P but I will post my issue and solution here for others.
Problem:
For me everytime I would try and play AA it would either Start and have my Disk Usuage at 100% or just simply hang while my Disk Usage sat at 100%. Even closing out AA in processes would still have my computer using 100% Disk.
Solution:
MSE/Windows Defender doesn't like something the game or hackshield is doing. If you go into Windows Defender go to the Settings tab and then click on "Excluded Processes" to the left you can now add "Glyphclient.exe" and "Archeage.exe" to the excluded processes list. Reboot and play AA with normal Disk Usage
Thank you!
Thank you! this one actually worked... 4% usage, sitting in a 20 min queue

I have to agree. I looked into moving my page file from SSD and putting it on a separate drive. But my research turned up that most experts say just leave it alone as windows is coded to use the page file system in a certain way even if you have a ton of memory it will still utilize it. SSDs now have an expected life equal to hard drives so it should be OK. My SSD has been used for over three years pretty much daily as I spend a lot of time playing games and so far so good leaving it just as it is.
Just did a search on 'Archeage ssd problems' and got over 33 thousand hits.

I got 32GB of memory nothing actualy touches my swap file.
Unless i am using a 32Bit program that can only allocate 4Gb (hint)
Trust me the koreans where using a 64Bit client in 2012 so why can Trion ? :P
BTW I am using Win8 with SSD drive , page file is on C: (SDD)
And I am not seeing nothing you describe ?
Game itself is installed on other drive.
And the C: disc usage is 1 to 10% at maximum. And its certanly not filling up.
What should I see ?
Security is really not that hard if you have basic understanding at how things work. Check your firewall at least once a week, use legit software as the op, turn down the porn, and never grant administrator access to an unsigned app. Also regular OS updates is a good idea. I have my autoupdater on automatic. It installs stuff whenever it needs to and im fine with that. I wonder what kind of professional you really are
P.S: You know, using any kind of antivirus is more or less like using an umbrella after the rain
P.S: Oh yeah, locking down your USB port for thumb drives is a good idea too. But really in linux as in Windows, granting root access to unsigned app is worse than playing with fire.
6. TURN OFF PAGEFILE – CAPACITY/ENDURANCE
Pagefile was created in the early days of Windows to compensate for softwares increasing need for memory as well as the significant cost of that memory. In response, Microsoft introduced Pagefile which created a 4GB (typically) file on your hard drive that acted as virtual memory. The problem with this concept always was that the information stored and removed from the Pagefile could still only be transferred as fast as the hard drive could accomplish. And then came SSDs and cheaper memory.
Along with Windows 7 came a more effective way, within the OS, of managing active programs and memory became significantly cheaper with a typical system having 4GB of memory. Our recommendation to shut down Pagefile was originally made in 2010 when we were running MS Vista and had just upgraded to 4GB of RAM. We have since been through countless systems for business and bench use and have never experienced a problem after shutting down Pagefile. We realized some time ago that, even though the SSD that the Pagefile resided was fast, pure memory was ten times that of an SSD. Leaving Pagefile on just didn’t make sense.
