I've played MMO's since ultima online .. played them all .
I loved Ultima Online because it was my first MMO but also how you could go out mine / chop trees , fish .. learn magic etc .. it was a sandbox .
Now apart from Starwars galaxies which was a pretty decent game there has been nothing but themepark after boring themeparks .
Then this gem of a game was made and it is amazing. The first 30 levels I felt like it was just another levelling grind .. but then I decided to try out the crafting .. a whole new world opened up .
I discovered that the best armor and weapons are crafted not quested . In fact my level 20 crafted gear was better than lvl 30 quested. But its not easy , it requires labor points which regenerate slowly over time apart from boost potions which can more than double your labor pool which even then isn't enough to do everything .
Anyways I could go on and on about the depth of the crafting and economy . It has it's flaws tho like most items last forever so there is no item sink to keep crafters crafting forever although fishing rods for example last for 3 days I think .
Anyways the most fun part Ive found is sailing the oceans or going up into the mountains to use glider . The world is not flat either , it is round like our planet earth , looking into the horizon at sea you will see the curve of the virtual planet .
Its simply amazing.

Hi. My name is Iselin and I approve this message.
Nice mix of Sand and Park with enough class variety to keep a good argument about builds going for years.

Its a great game, as mentioned it has its issues but compared to anything else out there right now its fantastic.
Its nice to have a virtual world back.
Any mmo worth its salt should be like a good prostitute when it comes to its game world- One hell of a faker, and a damn good shaker!
Yep, have to agree with the OP.
Best MMO I've played since pre-NGE SWG !
It feels like a virtual world, much more so than any other MMO since SWG. It still has has the themeparkish (new word ?) vibe to it, but it's not nearly as static and restrictive as most MMO's.
Now you know with a title like this you are just spoiling for others to come in and disagree with you.
Besides, everyone "knows" EVE is the best MMORPG ever made, it's a fact, look it up.
I do like AA however, (am a Founder actually) just waiting for the insanity to die down some before I give it a go in the live servers.
I also agree, gliding is great fun, one time I climbed to the top of the highest mountain I could find on the northern continent and jumped off... didn't realize there was a timer on the flight time and crashed to earth when it ran out. (also didn't realize if I did a "jump back" right before I landed I could have survived)
Glad to see some folks "get" AA and are able to see the hidden jewel unfortunately masked by an annoying quest centric smoke screen.

The title should be something along the lines of :
Could be the best MMO ever made but you will not find out if they do not sort out the queue's that players are stuck in.
A creative person is motivated by the desire to achieve, not the desire to beat others.
I must admit that its been a long long time i actualy stepped into a mmo world that feels so alive and filled with activities.
If the Queues get sorted to people can actualy play the game and they fix the lag spikes / rubberbanding i give this mmo all my free time.
I play on the Dahuta server in FUtilez and we have so much to do in so little time
builded 3 tradeships and now working towards 10 gallions while also gearing up our members in Hasla for weapons with added pvp and world bosses.
Its a riduclously fun mmo to play and certainly worth to play for a long long time.
@OP: if theme-parks are so boring why do millions of people play them ? Are we all misguided ? Do we have subpar standards? Are we unable to grasp the grandeur of sandbox mmos ?
Classic mmorpg forum mantra. My game is the game to rule them all and everything else sucks compared to it.
Oh, can we please loose this " i have played them all so i know" attitude. If you think that it raises your OPINION to an axiom then you're wrong.
LOL! Enough said.
I think you mean Pre-CU, the game was dead long before the NGE put the final nail in the coffin.
Think this is the case.
I see everyone clamoring about 'crafting', but once you plant 100 plants, build the best gear and sword, build an airship and a boat, what else is there left to do?
Games like Guild Wars 2 have about 1,000,000 more things to do, rather than act like crafting is the best thing since sliced bread for an MMO.
What else is fun about this game besides crafting?
PvP
Oh. Ohhhhhhhhh. Oh. Ohhhhhhhhhh. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Oh.
LOL, was doing some quests in a contested zone last night and ran across a low level with the wanted man debuff... he had 50 crime points so if he were killed, he'd get sent immediately to jail. Well this fool was on a trade pack run... talk about asking for it... anyways, I promptly killed him in payment for all those who have stolen my crops, took his trade pack and promptly turned it in for my own profit. His buddy who was also on a trade pack run who was also a low level but had no such debuff, I left alone.
They could improve this game by making it so that anyone with the debuff could be attacked no matter where they are in the world. This would ensure that the little thieves were open season all the time. There should be a little risk to thievery... right now they cower in safe zones.

In the short time I have spent with AA, I have absolutely fallen in love with it. The quest system is very meh, but once I moved beyond that I was hooked. I have NEVER been a crafting type in MMOs, but the system here has me hooked. I have leveled most of my levels through crafting and farming..only doing quest when I need a quick money fix while waiting on my traderuns to pay off.
For the first time since Pre-CU/NGE SWG and UO I actually feel like this is a true world. So many places off the beaten path to explore, and mobs only really being in questing areas, so when you are out in the wild you are more free to "see whats over that hill". The justice system, dodging pirates in the sea, all of that and more keep it interesting.
Is it perfect? Nope, I have my own little list of complaints - but it is the most fun I have had in years. I watch my wife play WoW sometimes, and I just can't imagine going back to such a static style of game - even though I played with her for years and had a blast.
Agree with OP, this game's great, would be better as P2P with no cash shop but oh well, no game is perfect.
I won't say that AA is the "Best" MMO ever. I do like it however. It has a good mix of sandbox and themepark. It has enough to do at the moment that it won't become too boring after a couple of months. However, it still suffers from that early MMO design restriction....mobs just mill around aimlessly. Sorry, but that is just one of my pet-peeves about MMO's in general. My other only complaint is the f2p and microtransactions. I won't go into specifics as it has been discussed at length elsewhere.
Let's party like it is 1863!
It's the honey moon period right now. Archeage is an interesting case where the sandpark nature of the game logically would lead to a nicer honeymoon period than most. However, if its long term success in other countries is any indication, the long-term thought behind the sandpark features eventually collapsed on themselves, at least in those regions.
t'll be interesting to see how long the honeymoon lasts (and how good the game will be for people afterwards) for this version of the game.
Agree, OP. Very engaging game. I do think a player's opinion probably pivots on two things:
1) Patron or not. I'm guessing not being a patron would deflate the opinion a lot because of low labor points and the inability to farm, place a house or use the AH.
2) Good guild or not. Depending on what you want to do in game, a good guild that shares your vision and playstyle is huge. Someone to play with, watch your back, compete against, etc. Especially on cross-continent trade runs, there's great power in numbers.
That is indeed what children think...
