Originally posted by LeGrosGamerV2 Yes, yes. To the untrained player, and like Atlantica Online, ArcheAge is all fun and games, until the P2W starts kicking in and starts getting in the way of the games playability. Don't say I didn't warn ya'll. If only ArcheAge were a simple P2P title, I'd give it a go like intended a few years back, but the game took the "train wreck waiting to happen" route.
Ugh. Atlantica Online. There were news articles about how it was "the right way to do the cash shop!". Only took like, a month before the cash shop became super P2W... I'm not even sure you could call it P2W. More like "Pay to survive at all in either PvE or PvP in the late game" felt more like it.
In Atlantica's case, we were only a few months behind the original Korean version so we had no way of knowing it'd get that bad.
In Archeage's case, however, it's 2 YEARS. You can see the (possible/potential) future right there. It remains to be seen if this region has a different culture and Trion a different directive that will change Archeage from the fate it had in Russia and Korea, but honestly so far I hear guilds are already monopolizing things (just like they did in Russia and Korea) and Trion is already implementing the first steps to the P2W cash shop. So I'm not holding very high hopes that this version of Archeage will have a different fate from the others.
Of course, it'll be a while before that settles in. Many MMOs take at least a few months to a year before the long-term failings start to display (though Wildstar hit it in a hilariously fast record time). I wonder how long it was before the Russian and Korean archeages reached that point.
Normally I would lol at a comment of "best" anything "ever", however it's hard to dispute that in this case. AA is not perfect, from server queue issues, to some annoying bugs. I will say that AA is the most fun I have had on an MMO since TBC WoW. I like a game that can keep me busy, AA has plenty to do for all types of players.
So while you can never really validate a statement such as "this is the best!", I will say that this is in the top 3 MMOs that I have played, the other two being WoW and shadowbane.
P.S. - to enjoy this game to it's fullest I would suggest users get into a large social and active guild. Playing by yourself can get a bit overwhelming especially when it comes to PvP and trade runs.

We can only talk about present, noone knows about future, and if someone say it knows dont believe him.
3 months in RU, now here, still agree with OP. Im going to think the same way in 6 months? have no idea, but the amazing experience i had and having playing AA dont disapear even if i get bored at some moment in the future.
Originally posted by Mitara Archeage is a game without a gaming soul. A lot of people are interested in it, but more due to desperation or lack of understanding twhat the hell they are playing. It is a success though, Trion made a good amount of money on the game.
Think this is the case.
I see everyone clamoring about 'crafting', but once you plant 100 plants, build the best gear and sword, build an airship and a boat, what else is there left to do?
Games like Guild Wars 2 have about 1,000,000 more things to do, rather than act like crafting is the best thing since sliced bread for an MMO.
What else is fun about this game besides crafting?
You would probably join in "the war effort" or create items/gear for people involved in the war effort.
The issue here is that there is a difference between people who show up in a game and want to be shown what there is to do (nothing wrong with that) and people who show up in a game and know what they want to do/accomplish and just want to be given the tools to do it.
That's where the real schism in the player base lies and of course it goes back to sandbox/themepark.

Why do you keep ignoring the fact that a lot of us HAVE been playing a few months and still think the same?
Doesn't that fact fit in with your carefully constructed pearl of received wisdom?
What, exactly, is P2W in the shop? I've looked and looked and see nothing. The closest I can come up with is the "Workers Compensation" potions (great name..lol)...which might allow someone to do some "thing" before I eventually do it.

Do you know how long it takes to "build the best gear"? It's not WoW crafting, each stage is geometrically harder than the last.
By the time you do it chances are an expansion has occurred.
Doing it solo would be a remarkable feat.

Seriously? Watch a twitch stream or two. Even people who don't like the game don't claim ArcheAge lacks "things to do".

I'm not ignoring it. Alpha is not the same as full release.

I am Korean and I have played for over a year and love it. Read your sig and apply it here
Let's not forget, "Alpha" was very much like release, and gave the players a good indication of what was to come at launch day.

There never was a land shortage. Now if you mean was desireable land near the ocean in the PVP-Free zones in short supply, most certainly, always is. Deep in the higher level PVP enabled zones, pretty sure you could find some space in almost any but the most crowded servers.
But I too decided to hold off (despite being a Founder) as I suspect things will ease up in a few months once some of the rush dies down.

Well being near water is kind of the point. Im not talking beach front...but within a relatively short walking distance. You don't want to have to huff it for 20 minutes across land then across sea to do intercontinental trading. And for the casual player that doesn't want a PvP scuffle...finding land in a high pvp zone is not ideal.
I wanted to just build a house, do some farming, do some crafting and trading with some risk of piracy, but not constantly be looking over my shoulder. I also don't want to feel rushed like I need to be logged in all of the time either.
after readign a few fanboi posts i will just weigh oin and say they need ot rename the game

thats all that needs be said and look at the games mmorpg rating as evidence
it dont matter if this was the bestest game of all time , if you cant play it and the stress all starts at loging in.....
game over
I guess they fixed the founder queues b/c I haven't had to "take a number " since last Thursday. Granted..the first week was frustrating as hell. The last week..not so much.
Now you know with a title like this you are just spoiling for others to come in and disagree with you.
Besides, everyone "knows" EVE is the best MMORPG ever made, it's a fact, look it up.
I do like AA however, (am a Founder actually) just waiting for the insanity to die down some before I give it a go in the live servers.
I also agree, gliding is great fun, one time I climbed to the top of the highest mountain I could find on the northern continent and jumped off... didn't realize there was a timer on the flight time and crashed to earth when it ran out. (also didn't realize if I did a "jump back" right before I landed I could have survived)
Glad to see some folks "get" AA and are able to see the hidden jewel unfortunately masked by an annoying quest centric smoke screen.
try perfect world,it has FLYING beasts and cities in the sky,as well as flying combat.glider are a joke.it is a pretty good game, but not if your ftp.franklly i do NOT like games that try to do both ftp and sub. get rid of the cash shop if you want a sub game,or get rid of the sub if you want a cash shop game.this game is about bilking you for every dime it can get.even form the sub's.
another thing i do not like is the lp are accoubnt based NOT character based. why so if you wanrt to make a craft alt,you need to BUY another sub.

You should go looking for plots now - I was able to find a nice spot in a village in Solis yesterday. Right next to the crafters, has a nice view of the hotsprings, and is about a minute's walk from the ocean; there's not quite enough room yet for a big farm, but most of my neighbors' houses are still in the building stage, so I expect a lack of tax-paying to demolish them soon enough.
Played for an hour. The game feels like a WoW clone with a free-form class system. I've been told it opens up at, like, level 30 or something... but I've heard that song and dance before. Song sounds a lot like TESO's "it gets fun after level 20".
Needless to say, that song was wrong.
Call me jaded, but not gonna bother. If this game isn't dead/on life support in 6 months, I'll give it a real shot.

The community of an MMO is an integral part of the experience. When you play an Alpha, you are playing with a selective group of participants.
You should go looking for plots now - I was able to find a nice spot in a village in Solis yesterday.
