Yeah, because the FPS genre is so mature, which requires an initial purchase.  That genre has the worst communities in online gaming.  Even with an admin, it's impossible to regulate behavior.

As for MMO genre, WoW's subscription never stopped the community from becoming terrible.

Tera's community is hostile to new players, and their chat is vile.  I've had to turn off /area chat multiple times in a day.

Most of the people who visit this forum have played AA...what kind of community did you really expect to have with all of them in there.
  • JJ82JJ82 Member UncommonPosts: 1,258

PvPers in western games have always been trash.

Been playing AA in Japan since right before the F2P change and not a single moment of dickishness, not even when I had a small group of the same guild come hand me my backside several times. They are pro killers, they don't need to /piss on your corpse just because they can while /yelling how they banged your mom and shat on your sisters face...its almost like playing with 8 year olds when playing on western servers when it comes to pvp games.

There are plenty of jerks in strictly pve games as well.

I cant' tell you how many times I had to deal with spoiled babies in Lord of the Rings Online. They can't pk you (and you can't pk them) but they can go out of their way to mess with you.

Jumping up and down in your face, making a point to kill your mobs before you do, etc.

Yeah but what they gonna do? trash talk you to death in PVE?

In open PVP game they not only get to talk trash but also have oppertunity to do 'acts' to grief and annoy you.

So i agree that open PVP MMOS are always known to be the worst in terms of communities. EVE, Darkfall, MO... all attract the worst kind of players.

And this is amusing to me because i was all about OPEN PVP games but i do not condone the mindset that only because it is an open PVP MMO one gets the license to be a jackass. At this point in my life i wouldn't play a game like AA even if they pay me.

Since you can block people the "trash talking" isn't an issue.

As I said, they can follow you around for a long time jumping up and down and up and down. They can follow you around and kill your mobs before  you do (this happened to me as I was a guardian and this guy was a champion so as soon as he saw a mob that I was going for he would scissor it up before I had a chance to tag it).

They can just be jerks and take your mobs if there is no "everyone gets a chance" mechanic.

I'm all for open pvp as well but don't condone the types of behavior one finds in some of those pvp games. But this is the game company's fault. They could just as easily start banning people (not for pk'ing or griefing) but for polluting chat.

That's just it though, they aren't the content and such instances are rare where people do stuff like the above in a typical PVE game; I've personally never had something like that happen (I've been playing MMORPG's since 02). Players impact on your experience as a whole in most modern PVE oriented games is very low. PVP or sandboxes however have a completely different focus, players are your primary content, how the general populace acts in such a game, reflects on to the overall experience of said game. Such a game allows for the wolves and sheep scenario many talk about here, too many wolves sours the entire experience.

Harsh reality of OWPvP mmorpg. community is always like that, in a certain owpvp mmorpg(the game is very popular in this forums, even articles are written about it on a monthly basis) if you join a guild and hunt players; even lowbies; you are accepted into your guild at least but if you say that you don't like annoying people like that, everyone will target you and make you leave the game. owpvp community is the worst.

Boobs are LIFE, Boobs are LOVE, Boobs are JUSTICE, Boobs are mankind's HOPES and DREAMS. People who complain about boobs have lost their humanity.

    problem solved.

won't work with archeage. its not like wow with a huge pve content and raids and get this gear to do the next raid. this game has a huge player driven economy and the end game revolves around pvp and industry, with a handful of instanced content and a few world bosses. if you dont like open world pvp you should NOT play this game.

O yeah a little off topic but the chat box ingame is spammed 24/7 by gold spammers, Trust me you have NEVER seen spam like this. Not exaggerating either...

That was just the chat, Forget about behavior in-game. Just be forewarned that this game has put the tools in place to really make people's lives hell. Im not talking about your typical ganking that happens in every MMO , Hey its PVP fight back pussy. Im talking about all the other systems in place to grief people.

People will tell you to join a large guild and team up with other people when you do things, ie fish tend to crops trade runs ect ect but the reality is 9 out of 10 times the griefers & toxic ZERGS greatly outweigh any Organized guild acitivity you could possibly organize. Trust me this community is ruled by those whose endgame content is YOU, Yes there content is nothing more than impeding your progress in game, I shit you not.

Am I saying this game is trash? Not at all, Its very innovative game with average to slightly above average graphics,  Just don't give this company a dime of your money until you fully understand what you are getting into. Play it free until you truly get a feel for what you are getting into.

Guess you have never had the pleasure of playing Eve-Online.  That game brings out the worst of people, but it can still be an enjoyable game or it used to be.  Stopped playing in 2008.

I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.

UO was eventually forced to offer a gank free version when many decided to leave for Everquest. I see history repeating itself ...again.

Sadly, it's a pervasive one because on paper it seems to make sense.  I freely admit to being suckered by it for a very, very long time.

These type of toxic, antisocial players drift through every MMO,   Archeage just happens to be the flavor of the day at the moment.    I would agree that the PvP aspect contributes most of this crowd.  The F2P contributes only in that it lets more of the PvP toxicity into the mix.

But thats got to be expected here.   Nature of the beast, yada yada yada.   As the game matures most of the kiddies, (and by that I mean those with the immature attitude despite their age)  will move on, with any luck.

By the way just wondering how the ignore feature works in ArcheAge?   I hope they give you plenty of slots for ignore.

FFA Nonconsentual Full Loot PvP ...You know you want it!!

simple ground rules for archeage to help those too lazy to look up game mechanics for themselves.

    1)  Don't trade packs across ocean if you don't want to get ganked, stay in safe zones.

    2)  Quest during the 2-3 hours of peacetime each pvp zone has during war cycles,  Farm during conflicts/war.

    3)  Don't trust anyone.  If someone on the street walked up to you and said "Hey, carry this bag on the plane for me I promise there isn't a bomb in it!"  Would you be like "OH YEA!! OF course I trust you!!"

/shakes head, why do you people want to turn every single game into the same boring, snooze fest of care bear and safety.  The game works fine the way it is because they have ways for those care bears to advance in the game without ever having to pvp and yet you STILL come here and whine about pvp.  Sad Really.  You know what I do when I get jumped by multiple people?  Ask my guild for help.  If they are busy, I ask in shout, if no response,  I craft until the group moves on to someplace else.  What I don't do is come here and whine about it in hopes that every game created is specific to only what I like..

Now if you want to complain about Trion being a money grabbing whore of a company, fine lets discuss that because there is some merit to that discussion.  I have played to 50 in Korea (before 55 patch), and 50 to RU before NA.  Neither one of those markets felt as purposely edited to make the money shop as important as it is in Trions version, THAT should be a reason you stay away from the game I could agree with... not the pvp system you refuse to learn to stay safe in.

I agree 100% with all the pvp comments here. I broke my MMO cherry if you will with Shadowbane. None of these pansies would last 10 days in that game. It was pvp at all times level 12+ and it was full loot. You were always looking over your shoulder. Damn I miss that buggy pile of crap sometimes.

I noticed a big difference in community in different servers I played on.  Tahyang, my main server, is the unnoficial RP server and (at least on the West), chat is great and people are in general great to play with.  Our big problem is the notorious Oranthul rolled on the East and is zerging the hell out of the server.  Freedlich Island basically belongs to them currently.

So if you don't like toxic chat and are looking for a challange, roll on Tahyang on the West side.  We need your help!

It's far worse in F2P than in P2P communities. Simply because there are no direct financial concequences for their actions.

Oh your account got banned for bad behaviour?  Just create a new one and continue on.

At least in a P2P MMO they need to buy a box and pay a monthly Subscription, with valid payment option. So it's almost impossible to hide behind aliases.

Its laughable you think people get banned for bad behavior. That only happens in the most extreme situations and we don't live life according to the extremes.
