For the record i have never said this about any MMO or even commented in a post about any other mmo on this subject matter . Don't believe me check my post history. Trust me im not one of those uptight guys in chat thats screams" REPORTED" every time someone makes a off color joke or drops a f bomb but that scum in this game is just on another lvl lol. Im just talking about chat, Forget about there actual In-Game behavior.
I wasn't implying that YOU said this about any other MMO. I said its funny that your title is brought up, without fail, about every MMO thats new and launches since 2006 or so.
Someone in reddit just posted a screenshot of some of the chat he was subjected to in AA, and it is some of the vilest crap I've ever seen. The abuser is one sick puppy (and an Oakland raiders fan apparently) but to be fair I wouldn't say he is symbolic of the player majority.
I won't link it for fear of ban but it's not hard to find
I find this community is the same as what I have seen in WoW, Rift, GW2, and Wildstar. Faction chat is often filled with nonsense or controversy, but does not accurately portray the community of the game, once you find a guild and get to talking with other players in party, teamspeak, etc.
Now Playing: Bless / Summoners War Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile
I don't remember seeing racial slurs - ever - in LOTRO, EQ, or ESO (post-launch; there were a few in beta.) I've seen linked Archeage text at Reddit involving long, drawn out rape fantasies directed at a players' mother. It simply is not true that all other game companies tolerate people doing something like that.
It does take only a few people to foul public chat channels. But the public face of a community is the public chat. If it's overrun with vandals (either abusive players or spammers) it sends a message, and that message isn't a good one. The toxic chat and community is becoming a defining feature of this game in internet discussions, and it's still there even if you close down the channels and don't see it. It also doesn't matter if you saw something unpleasant sometime in some other game; that doesn't make n*** this and n*** that or rape talk OK. If you want the game to have a better rep you want Trion to dedicate the resources that other games use (e.g. people monitoring the chat channels and banning spam and vile chat.)
This isn't "freedom of speech"; people don't start spouting rape threats and racial slurs in ordinary day-to-day speech, because the person who did would be treated as the sort of person that they are, and they wouldn't like that. That's because if you say nasty things you have to deal with the consequences in real life, and the people spouting this stuff want the freedom to be abusive without having to deal with the consequences.
I'd say that a minimum level for chat (needed for FTP - so that people have to spend hours even if they create a throwaway account) plus a strong moderation policy would do the trick. So it isn't that they can't control it - it's that it just isn't a priority for them.
Am I saying this game is trash? Not at all, Its very innovative game with average to slightly above average graphics, Just don't give this company a dime of your money until you fully understand what you are getting into. Play it free until you truly get a feel for what you are getting into.
After initial disappointment I'm starting to love game. But I do not care so much for "toxic" community. Majority of them comes i'm sure from free players that would eternally love to play for free, eternally eat in restaurants for free, eternally going to cinema for free, ... etc. It is same ill mentality. I'm also free now, but just as you suggested, to see if game fits me. I NEVER actually play free games unless there is dual option and in this case I will always sub. If not worth subbing then it is not worth my time and will not play. Simple as that. Nobody will convince me he/she can not afford 13$ for 1 month of enjoyment. And it is right thing to support game you like. Do not like, do not waste time. Again, simple as that.
But there, besides terribly bad gold spam management from admins and lag, lag, lag, .... are other problems that in few days will not allow me to play. I see very bad timing for AA to be released now. Ok, guess depend also on players liking.
Main problem I will not play is because Rift expansion is coming out in days where I will stay for aprox 1 month ... then WOD comes out where I will stay for aprox half year .... only then will have to play again Rift or AA.
Another problem (for me) is that AA is PVP-centric. There are no PVE servers. Could still play as I have learned there are "safe" zones but not sure at this time how much they offer. If they are like Warhammer that was essentially PVE with RVR zones, which I loved, this could be success. I do not see how they could live only from PVP players. They are very vocal, but not majority. Very vocal. But if one look at any game that have PVE and PVP servers ratio PVE:PVP is usually at least 10:1 as there is no demand for HARDCORE PVP.
Anyway will continue to play as free for few days more then will see for next years summer.
Name one positive F2P community, other than dead games that people don't play anymore.
landroval on LOTRO
He said other than dead game that people don't play anymore. Yes I know there are people who still play, but LOTRO's prime has well come and gone. That game is a roleplayer's wetdream, all the bad guys are playing more trollable venues.
This is not the worst by any stretch of the imagination. Guild Wars 2 has been worse and it is B2P. Most MMO's or even Online Games are going F2P or have done so, that really holds no weight anymore. More so when you look at F2P communities like LOTRO and EQ2 having some of the best communities online and they are F2P. That is just an unimaginative tired cliche.
Just sounds like you found yourself surrounded by some immature gamers that is all. I have had the opposite reaction and I am a founder. My whole guild joined with me, over 300+ strong. Just have to find the right people. We recruited a guy the other day who put into chat what he was looking for in a group of people to play with so I PMed him and recruited him to our guild. He said "finally! A home." Sounds like you just need one too
GW2 is not bad at all. All the immature people moved over to AA.
Most F2P games will get these people because, it is free.
I noticed a big difference in community in different servers I played on. Tahyang, my main server, is the unnoficial RP server and (at least on the West), chat is great and people are in general great to play with. Our big problem is the notorious Oranthul rolled on the East and is zerging the hell out of the server. Freedlich Island basically belongs to them currently.
So if you don't like toxic chat and are looking for a challange, roll on Tahyang on the West side. We need your help!
I'm on Tahyang, on the West side, and I spent over an hour or so before logging, watching with mouth agape, as a half dozen or so people spammed trial chat with some pretty vile racial slurs, occasionally looking for a way to report them that didn't involve jumping through one hoop after another.
Have I been witness to this kind of chat abuse before? Sure, but what amazed me was the fact that they were allowed to continue unabated and the whole thing snowballed as even more douchebags joined the fray.
So, to respond, if this is one of the better servers for chat I fear to see what the others have to offer.
Also inb4 people telling me I can block said people or turn off said channel.
In every game I've played where people said the community was toxic, evil, etc., my experience has never been that the community is toxic, evil, etc. In every game I've ever played that had any sort of community there are toxic or evil people, but they aren't the community. An exception might be the LoL community while you're playing because it doesn't seem to matter if the person knows you, is on the same team as you or what. They just hate you no matter who you are or what you do.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
Its really sad seeing so much people classifie a entire community based on the worse "group".
And all communitys, no exception, have a "bad" group.
Allready see alot of morons on chat and walking around the world with stupid acts, but my attention goes to the the nice people, not to this group. And all the games i played have them, more, less, they are there special on 1st months.
Ofc, in owpvp is only worse because they can do more stuff to annoying us but i allready had bad experiences too in pve focus games, found alot of that ppl in "pugs".
Some replies here is pure preconception against pvp and f2p players, while some pretend that the world of p2p pve its a heaven where everyone respect everyone..... yeah, right.

ONLY because it is the unofficial RP server filled with guilds who stuck around through the f2p conversion. Other servers had their communities shattered during the transition. Lotro is an aged game with fewer players and fewer new players entering the mix that play long enough to impact the server.
It is an exception rather than the rule. It STILL was impacted by the f2p conversion. One cannot deny that.
I firmly believe a huge caveat must be considered between 100% f2p and f2p+sub. In my experience these are 2 completely different experiences. The vast majority of long term players committed to guilds go sub to avoid the hassles of f2p or utilize f2p to be able to return to the community they are already a part of. The differences in f2p models also often varies wildly between 100% f2p and hybrids along with how that affects community and game play in general.
In general, I'm going to agree with the OP. Official AA forums are moderated, but not over language. I've seen a couple posts by the moderators about racial slurs not being tolerated on the forums, so that part has slowed down. But nothing is stopping it in game.
I created channels for guild, party, whispers and raid and never even see the rest anymore.
I dunno about the community being toxic but the gold spam is rediculous. After just 10 minutes I turned off pretty much every wide area chat channel. All I get now is /say, /whisper, /party, /raid, /shout. The rest went, which is probably why I'm not seeing all the other stuff people talk about.
I guess Ive been lucky, despite all the pvp ive done (which is almost every day, losing alot, but im with guild so we win some too)....
NEVER had anyone say anything like that to me, in Archeage. period.
In general, I would agree with both points - one should be polite, but one also has the freedom of speech. One shouldnt be too extreme with both.
We are the Founding Fathers in this virtual world in which we create. As such it seems we must do what our Founding Fathers had to do.. in order to let our fellow gamers have a fair shake.
