Lots and lots of new future ESO information. Update day 2: Justice system and more!

http://tamrielfoundry.com/2014/10/eso-guild-summit/

Give me a sec, ill post some notables here.

edit:

This is the TL/DR version ;-)

A HUGE thanks to Atropos of Tamriel Foundry for his timely and free-flow of information on today's meeting and to ZOS for putting on the summit.

Atropos of Tamriel Foundry has a 4500 word posting on what happened on day one on his site.

This post will serve as a review of what is deemed new information received today (to me at least).

  • Attack animations are receiving a substantial overhaul.

  • A reiteration that animation canceling is around to stay for now

  • They're looking to improve how blocking works (vague)

  • Crafting Writs (dailies) will give crafting inspiration, gold and/or survey reports

  • Survey Reports are like treasure maps and will point you in the direction of "high-yield" node locations

  • Dwemer motif is coming soon - should be update 5. The motif will be delivered in chapters in epic drops or very rarely as a whole book in the form of a legendary drop.

  • Dwemer armor is constructed from Dwemer scrap salvaged off of Dwemer enemies

  • New 9-trait set "The Twice Born Star" is in update 5 in Upper Craglorn

  • New crafting style Xivkyn (Imperial Daedric) will launch with the Imperial City

  • VR10 recipes incoming

  • A trophy and collectible inventory system is in the works.

  • Jewelry Crafting - CONFIRMED

  • Poison Making - CONFIRMED

  • Mount Racing (notice not horse racing) - RECONFIRMED

  • Provisioning update will be accompanied with 80 clickable provisioning "containers"

  • There will soon be harvestable soul gems and cash/coin stacks in the game

  • New Provisioning recipes that require caught fish from in-game fishing coming with provisioning overhaul

  • Forward camps are getting nerfed and possibly removed

  • With Champion System all your stats will be mutilpied by 10. For example 2,500 health will become 25,000 health. This is so that a 0.1% increase in a stat is more visible.

  • Soft caps are going away (some hard caps like Armor will still cap at 50% mitigation)

  • Champion System "Phase 2" is in update 5 - that is the removal of Veteran XP and only have regular XP in the game including for Veteran Level increases.

  • Update 5 will reduce the passive stat boosts from veteran ranks, but grant attribute and skill points for the player to choose how to spend. This deserves some explanation. With each VR you increased health by 15 and magicka and stamina by 10 but you didn't get an attribute point to spend how you wished. This says that those passive boosts of 10, 10 and 15 PER LEVEL will be removed and you will be compensated with attribute and skill points to spend as you see fit. This is most likely to remove a "problem" now because the champion system will not have this passive increase as everyone will be level 50.

  • Champion system and Veteran ranks will exists side-by-side until they can hammer all this out with the ultimate goal being the complete replacement of the veteran system including veteran ranks.

  • There are nine constellations in the champion system. Health (Warrior, Lord, and Lady), Magicka (Mage, Ritual, and Atronach), Stamina (Tower, Lover, and Thief)

  • You must spend champion points on a rotation system. Each time you spend a champion point, the constellation “rotates” and you must spend your next champion point in a tree belonging to the next type.

  • It is estimated that it will take an hour of play time to earn a champion point

  • Each individual Champion bonus can have up to 700 champion points applied to it!

  • ESO will have a resting bonus called Enlightenment. This will help keep players together by increasing XP earned if you've been away from the game for a while.

  • "The devs have mentioned 'console release' several times over the course of the day, so it’s definitely something that is still in their big plans for the future"

I tried to make this a summary but it wasn't very summarizableTM. You should really read the full Atropos article.

(thanks reddit user dominoid73)

edit: Day 2.

  • New AvA abilities – AoE damage, stealth detection, healing debuff, a Stamina based heal

  • Reduce variation in Ultimate generation between builds

  • Ultimates will scale off your highest stat and critical strike chance

  • There were major changes listed for Two-Handed and Bow. You need to see thefull article for details. I'm not sure if those were the only changes they went over or all that Atropos could get written down.

  • Block needs to feel responsive

  • With regards to blocking - ZOS wants there to be a tradeoff between acting defensively and your offensive potential. Some alternative treatments are being considered, and it’s a problem that they are working on.

  • With regards to AOE caps - The solution ZOS is currently considering involves healing remaining capped at 6 targets, but AoE damage being unlimited in the number of targets it can affect, but subjecting that damage to a damage falloff effect where as an AoE hits more and more targets the damage dealt to additional targets decreases by some scaled percentage.

  • Undaunted “Monster Helms” will drop off the last boss in Veteran Dungeons while shoulders drop from Undaunted repeatable quests.

  • Sample 2-piece undaunted drop bonuses:

    • Daedroth – Adds a chance to summon a Daedroth when you use Light and Heavy attacks.
    • Spider Daedra – Summons a spider Daedra which snares and deals damage-over-time to enemies in the area
    • Dwemer – Adds a chance to summon a Dwemer Centurion when you use abilities which will channel a beam which restores your Magicka, Stamina, or Health (random chance)
  • Gold drop rates – more variance in gold dropped per enemy. Some enemies might drop no gold, but others might have a larger amount to add more variety.

  • Many traits will get revamped:

    • Reinforced/Ornate/Intricate items – making these traits more rewarding when they are used for their intended purpose
    • Exploration – adding a more combat-useful bonus to grant increased experience/VP gain from killing enemies as well as discovering new locations
    • Charged – they are working on some ideas to make this more effective
    • Weighted – changing the way that Haste works in general to reduce the cooldown of abilities
    • Sharpened – with the addition of the Champion system the Armor and Spell Resistance of monsters will be increased to be more in line with player values so this trait will be more effective.
  • Add an ability-altering weapon for every active weapon ability in the game (eventually)

  • Eric also assured us that there have been general improvements to the workflow and iteration speed that players can expect to see from the gameplay and itemization team. The team size has been increased and they are hard at work already for the next update.

  • Adding cloaks which moved naturally would be incompatible with having a high number of character models on screen at a given time.

  • Quests in dungeons are shareable, and if you enter the dungeon late your quest will be advanced to the current stage.

  • Undaunted Enclaves – An enclave exists in each capital where Normal and Veteran dungeon quests are available. Completing optional objectives increases your reward tier.

  • NEW DUNGEON - Imperial City Prison

  • Solo Arenas are on the agenda

  • There are big changes coming to the LFG tool and the way we place players together. The dungeon scaling will help a lot when it comes to putting groups together, also the new Undaunted daily pledges will help a lot because players will be wanting to do the dungeon for the day. We’ll also fixed a few bugs with the matching system in Update 5.

  • The Justice System Introduces:

    • Laws, and the ability to break those laws
    • Outlaws and Enforcers (both players and NPCs)
    • NPC reactions to crime
  • What are the Crimes (details on TF)?

    • Theft
    • Trespassing
    • Murder
  • What are the Repercussions of Crime (details on TF)?

    • NPCs will react to your crimes
    • Witnessed crimes increase “Bounty and Heat”
    • NPC guards will accost you
    • The player is flagged for PvP
  • The justice system will introduce two new skill lines. A "criminal-themed skill line" and a "justice-themed skill line"

  • Outlaws have access to access to “Outlaw Havens” which are like smuggler’s dens with fences, vendors, and more

  • Enforcers also have a PvE component called “Bandit Dens” which give Enforcers fun ways to find reliable and fun enforcement activities to undertake. They also have access to Chapter houses which are towers outside cities

  • Joining the Enforcers gives you access to an Enforcer tabard which, when worn, will flag the player for PvP.

  • Gameplay is intended to not be just a “cat and mouse” game, but rather more similar to a capture the flag mechanic where stolen (and then possibly confiscated) goods must be returned to either an Outlaw Haven or an Enforcer Chapterhouse.

Some cool updates. That Champion system reminds me a bit of Diablo 3's "Paragon levels".

    Imperial City

The city is basically just a PvE zone with PvP.

    • The sewers – super large public dungeon
    • Districts – contain capture locations with PvE events
    • Difficulty is tuned for 1-2 players at high level
    • Each campaign has their own Imperial City
    • All 3 sides will potentially have access at the same time.
    • Access is gated by controlling your 6 home keeps – making defending and home security more important.
    • The population cap is shared between Cyrodiil and the Imperial City, so as one side floods into the city, their power in Cyrodiil itself will wane allowing other alliances to retake less defended objectives.

    What’s Inside the City?

    • Districts: Temple, Elven Gardens, Market, Arena
    • New armor sets + the new Xivkyn crafting style
    • 6 new 8 hour Buffs from the Divines – these are similar to Mundus Stone buffs, but temporary. They are AoE beneficial, so if you have a buff it will affect all your nearby allies as well.
    • Lots of enemies to kill, get money, exp, loot.
    • White Gold Tower itself will not be initially accessibl

    Finally...

Im guessing they are trying to implement everything on the list before they put the game out for consoles.

    mostly good updates IMO.

    However,

    • ¨You must spend champion points on a rotation system. Each time you spend a champion point, the constellation “rotates” and you must spend your next champion point in a tree belonging to the next type.¨

i dont like this. Why limit player choices? This is the same reason the skill roulette in The Secret World sucks, because its too linear and forces the player to waste points on skills many people dont want so they can get the next one.

There are 9 different constellations in the 3 categories of Health , Magicka and Stamina so there is still plenty of customization available and we do not know specifically what all we can spend the points on yet.

Heh I have to admit this is pretty exciting stuff.

Getting me pumped to play instead of fifa 15 or Total War 2 :D

    Oh god please no

All your character’s stats, attributes, and damage values will be multiplied by 10 (for example, a Health of 2,500 would become a Health of 25,000). This will allow small percentage bonuses to realize a visible impact on your character’s stat lines.

Argonians are already shafted as it is

    What?

It's a pve complaint. Argonians lack racials that offer quantified dps increases compared to other races.

In reality though it makes very little difference and is offset by strict use of potions where Argonians get bonuses. In pvp they make decent builds based around self healing. I myself play an Argonian NB to maximize potion use and self healing. Very nice to be honest. In pve though you will only notice a difference in the most extreme cases. Your build is what drives performance. It is still skirt and stick and certain OP skills that drive 99% of your dps. Racials make jack difference when comparing a 1500 dps build against a 1200 dps build.

    You stay sassy!

Yeah I've been a argonian since launch for those very reasons, hell even the swimming speed I like, theres just a lack of water that I'm used to from GW2 RvR  It just seemed like races such as Imperial with their multiple % bonus to stats would benefit a lot from these new changes.

What????   So you have use points to rotate the tree!!! Even if some stuff is broken or gets nerfed.  Can you respect the tree?

I like the way Destiny implemented "Veteran levels" You actually gain Veteran Levels (Past 20) by equipping gear..

The only reason I quit this game is because once I hit the max level.. I did not want to go and grind some more. Heck, I just grinded to 50. While some of the stuff was cool, story was pretty decent, in the end its still an MMO. And MMO players want to get to the meat and potatoes: the end game.

PvPers want to Arena/BG/Open World PVP. That's all they want to do. They want prestige (usually under "Ranked" battles) with a Rating, which has associated rewards for being high rated... take a look at League of Legends, or any MMO with competitive PVP, they have a "Ranked" version of their Arenas and BGs. Leaderboard is fine for open world pvp.

PvEers want to do Dungeons, Raids, Crafting (of any kind), Roleplay or are in it for a good story.

They are offering more to the end game with the Justice system (Sounds freaking wicked, very Elder Scrolls.) plus they are bringing a lot of the missing features. ESO has the potential to become my "one and only" in this world of many.. but I just don't want to keep GRINDING and leveling up after I've hit the cap. I've paid my dues, I've gotten to max level.  Don't make me keep leveling right after hitting max level. I get an extra point per level? I don't give a shit man, I just want to endgame.

I agree, alternate advancement is about freedom to progress no matter what you are doing and how you want.I have seen many mention diablo's paragon system and hopefully its more EQ2 than diablo.Diablo's system is very bare bones compared to most AA systems. Considering the dev's mentioned "Think EQ2" gonna take a wait til i see it in action approach, considering the champion system is what brought me back and will make or break the game for me.

    Lots of good info tho!

It sounds interesting . I keep wondering what this game is like now . I liked some of what I saw in my initial month there but I hated the public dungeons because they were so full of people farming mobs they were unchallenging . The same was true of the solo quests because of the way the public server worked there were always too many people doing the same solo quest as you so it was sometimes hard to even get in a shot on a mob before it was killed again this made it unchallenging and it was this factor in the game that led me to quit but even so I remember thinking at the time I would quite happily give it another try 6 months down the line to see if it had improved at all . I felt the game had potential but it that just wasn't full filled at the time of release .

When is update 5 going to be released?
  • blastermasterblastermaster Member UncommonPosts: 259

This all sounds really nice!  I will most definitely resub. to have a look at this update when it's deployed on the servers!

My main issue with the game was the grouping aspect of it though.

Aside from AvA and Instanced dungeons, it was just not working well unless you played with friends who were on the exact same steps of quests as you were (which is pretty much impossible when you are a group of 5-6 friends playing on variable schedules..)

Was that worked on since launch? What improvements were made on that side?  They would need to have improve a lot on that aspect if I want to convince others to resub with me...

Does this mean they are fixing tanks?  What about armor issues with tanks?  20 guild leaders and not one of them mentioned this issue?  Seems a bit odd that it wasn't discussed.  i guess everyone of them loves wearing cloth armor as tanks....

I can't think of any talent system or skill system that gives players the option to spend points how they see fit.  There are always fillers one must go through.

It's not like each point you spend is pointless.  Each rotation of the constellation will ensure each point spent is meaningful and useful for your character.

Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!

Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!

Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!

Clearly the least interesting thing here in my book. 150 or 150 000 hitpoints makes really no difference at all to me.

Otherwise there are indeed a lot of interesting things here, they are clearly putting this in to be ready for the console launch and chances are that the game will do very well on consoles. :)

I suspect it's just for appearance.

Damage and healing and the like will also scale.

Personally I think it's silly as we then start getting very bloated numbers but "whatever".

This is the update I was waiting for. It seems the Dev's have made leaps and bounds improvements since launch, so I'm going to invest now. It's pretty good timing as Amazon is selling it at 75% off.
