So.. I see some things changing for what should be the better but are they going to address the simple boring duplicate ability combat system they have? Why is there never any mention about how boring the classes actually are right now. I guess as an engineer the bugs were what was throwing a lot of things off but still way more is needed before it can really be fun or well rounded for an extended time.
So apparently, according to the uberfans of this game, hardcore now means dodging red splotches on the ground and grinding time trial dungeons to get attuned or gear. Used to be hardcore meant taking on tough bosses that depended upon perfect execution by a large group of people (10-40). The last thing I think of, having done the bulk of the raid content in this game, is "hardcore", but rather "gring until your eyes bleed" content gating. But to each their own, I guess.
The problem with Wildstar for me has always been the crazy combat. I feel as though I needed to do 100 Actions per Minute in order to be effective in combat with any class. That was between lining up my attacks, trying to reach the keys to fire them off...while also constantly dodging attacks . The amount of keys you had to press just in a normal combat scenario was ridiculous.
And I compare it to Guild Wars 2 which feels slow in comparison, and I think what am I getting from Wildstar's combat that couldn't have been done better, or hasn't been done better in a game like Guild Wars 2, or Tera? And the answer was nothing but frustration.
I liked the character models, the world design, the humour and the story. I really did. But if the combat doesn't work and they can't fix it, what's the point?
I will always remember the Wildstar developers saying that this was a "Hardcore" game and they weren't going to change it for anyone.
How's that working out? :-
Fact is that what we are seeing is no one wants to play this type of "hardcore" combat and game design with the grinding and content gating etc. No one wants it in 2014, or the people that do are not enough to support a AAA development.
Too little too late. The PVP in this gamr is terrible. Any MMO that tries to be a quest grinder is going to fail these days. MMO's need to stop putting exclamation points on top of NPC's heads. Players don't want to quest grind and do dungeons for the b3st gear.

That's your opinion i like doing quests but only if the quests are actually fun and diversive i always enjoyed questing in wow post cata for example cause the quests where really well done diversive and told little storys, most newer MMOS just do it wrong and make questing boring and too combat focused .
NCSoft is soon to shut down another one, City of Heroes shutting down was the day I swore off playing NCSoft games, but I gave Wildstar a shot anyways, it was fun for a month, but CoH was better. Sorry Carbine, you were in a no win situation.
The only victim in all of this is the entity that invested money into this product to be made.
It was ridiculous from the start to emulate something that has been cloned to repletion.
Why they thought people would pay money on top of the extremely poor execution (it can't even make use of multithreading properly... in 2014... seriously?)makes me wonder if this was some kind of tax evasion scandal.
This game makes SWToR look like a golden turd, at least SWToR had story going for it.... where did all of the money they pumped into this go and why didn't they at least license an established engine?
They either need to call time or do an FFARR on this one.
Given it is NCSoft and the absence of a known IP I am sure it will be the former.
That's a bunch of nonsense. The game was released in excellent, polished state, not the ridiculous mess that FFXIV released with. All the issues with this game can be corrected by slowing down the update cycle, concentrating on polishing new content, and re-thinking and re-vamping their "hardcore" mindset to figure out ways to bring back the casual player. The game will never be a mega-hit like they were hoping. That ship has sailed, unfortunately, and it had as much to do with game design as anything. But this is a really solid game that can be a lot of fun. Carbine needs to just take a step back, understand that they didn't properly gauge how popular a themepark with a focus on hardcore raiding would be these days, and start making necessary adjustments to get folks back. My guess is F2P will be right around the corner. The megaserver tech will also help.
It saddens me to see this game go through such hardship. But, a lot of it is self-inflicted. I would come back if this game ran better, had less of an ADHD UI, and gave a more inclusive tone to the content. While I appreciate their desire to make a raiding friendly game, everything feels rushed and monotonous after a while. The sad thing is, there's a lot good features beneath the rubble. The codex features are great, class design is good (discounting the whole AMPs grind), and the world is fun to explore. I think that turning their attention away from Christmas events is a good idea, but it doesn't bode well for the future.

This game has just as many problems as ffxiv did at launch if not more. Just because they are not in the form of severe lag/bugs/client doesn't mean you dismiss them. I'm assuming you're someone not effected by the optimization problems? Because even now, there is nothing even slightly excellent in their optimization months after launch.
He's 100% right, this games either going down the drain or needs a reboot and the almighty carbine studios did say they would shut it down instead of go f2p. They are morons though so its likely they will end up going f2p.
WoW's hardcore gameplay worked because people were coming off of blizzard and warcraft 3 hype
also relative to other mmo's at the time, it was considered the mmo for babies. mostly because of its streamlined design
carbine believing they could bring back the 40 man hardcore was incredibly arrogant of them. now this game will probably be converted to F2P soon
this is wrong. Wows 40 man raids had many mechanics that Wildstar just doesnt have. Multiple classes per character, Crowd Control mechanics, Dedication of players and massive control.
When you look at how games are done many of these things arent found. The biggest of these issues is the player base. I gcall them the gimme generation. They dont want to work for the loot, they want it handed to them. The 40 man raids could take days to complete This was where the player dedication came into play.
The average gamer today doesnt have the attention span of a kumquat . Look at the Raid style differences, they are satisfied with the raids in WoW ... Then compare those same raids to the raids in Vanilla or The Burning Crusade and you will realize that the players have become satisfied with coal instead of gold. And when offered said gold they cry and troll saying..."its no good 40 mans will never work"
yet they did for 5 years with millions of players running them, 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
Its not because players do not have the attention of a kumquat, its because players no longer tolerate mechanics that are plain and simple bad for the health of players and their relationships. People wised up that they should not sacrifice excessively for an MMO and that it shouldn't be a 2nd job. A lot of people in my WoW guild did do the whole 40 man thing and all of em will never go back to it for good reason. There is still plenty of "gold" if one sought it out, the difference is that there is copper, silver, gold, and platinum in the pile now and not just gold which is a good direction.
And your last line is an utter lie and delusional. Yes millions played but a very small minority saw that content which is percisely why WS failed before launching because the Dev's were also delusional.
"Before Update 3-4 even gets here, WildStar’s Megaserver merger will be taking place. Sometime in the next two weeks, servers will be closed down and characters moved to four new homes. It’s a feature that Donatelli admitted wanting to have for launch, but didn’t get finished in time."
That I find really baffling. I don't want to accuse the developer of lying, but I think it would be a more charitable explanation than the company deciding to launch the game before they even had their basic server architecture in place. Probably the most charitable explanation is that he genuinely did want to do it but got overruled by higher ups who later came around when they saw that it was absolutely necessary to redo the server architecture almost immediately after launch. But the only alternative to "the developer is lying" that I can find is chaos and mismanagement of the sort that ought to get a studio shut down entirely. Which, given their history, NCSoft seems likely to do sooner rather than later.
Like many developers before them... they refused to see the changes in how the market worked, and did not adapt. They honestly didnt believe that they would need megaservers.... because they knew better. It is just a combination of arrogance and incompetance that we are seeing a lot of recently.
