Warning WOW possibly linked to clinical depression.

After playing some 2 months of WOW I noticed my moods swinging from excitment to downright misery.
Unfortunately the misery was starting to predominate and I thought it would be wise to seek medical help.
The doctor suggested prozak to lift me out of the blues and asked if there was any depression in my family. I said no as both parents were extremely positive people and then he enquired as to my present circumstances. The only change in my life was that the misery seemed to manifest more when I played WOW.He couldn't see the conection but when I explained the remoresless amount of similair quests in the game he then told me to immmediately stop playing. I didn't take the medication and stopped playing WOW and have found happiness once again.Hope this helps anyone out there, take care.

Ok, I think you're a bit nuts (no offense), but you get a depression because of a game and then ask your doctor about it?

I can understand if you get depression because you lose your job or get a bad exam grade, but common, you get depression from a game?

Then you really shouldn't play any game at all because they really seem to change your mood.

    I'm glad you're feeling better.image

These types of games can be extremely addictive and as with all addictions they can cause psychological problems.  The key is to play in moderation.

    That's so right.

I was playing GW today a lot and I was so bored that my mouth was all dry and I was like "Common.. finish this mission already!"

I mean, there is not a single game for me anymore that I could purely enjoy many hours straigth, but I guess that's a good thing :D

Its not the video game that made you depressed....if you really where depressed and arnt trying to start a flame war. If you played WoW 24/7, its the fact that you played a video game, sitting in one chair staring at the same screen, eating the same junk crap food for hours on end without having social interaction that leads to depression. If you didnt play WoW 24/7 and still led a normal life while playing, then I doubt it is WoW that made you depressed....::::12::

Edit: I just realized your post is in fact a flame. Good attempt ::::20::

Actually, the flashing lights and such from a videogame, mixed with the concentration that you put into them, have shown (in studies) that you can become addicted to the lights and develop depression when your not playing the games. It's wierd, but it's been proven.

Joke or not, it would be possible to become depressed playing any game that is as self consuming as Wow is. When you pour all you mental energy into a stupid game and stop thinking about your own life, your life spins out of control and all your problems pile up. You have forgotten about yourself and are now only concerned with your fantasy characters in a game. It leaves you overwhelmed with RL problems because you never faced and resolved any of them, therefore making you depressed about your life.

Also reading the massive amounts of negativity and closemindedness that spew from the majority of people who talk and post on the internet could make anyone depressed. ::::31::

Yeah, well, apparently toast causes cancer now...
(note: this isn't a joke, some scientists (or doctors) seem to think toast, in particular the crunchy outside, is a cause of cancer >.<)

i dont know if this was a joke or not..

but these type of games do cause depression among many people, and thats the truth.

i mean, alot of people put everyting aside to get the all might exp. play obscene hours, fail from school, late for work, neglect family. all for irrelevant, worthless power on a game. how can it not make you think, when you are away from the comp and reflecting on all the things you could have done in those 200+ hours this month you have played a game.

obvious this will turn into some very bad moods, honesly i have some problems with it myself though i am bit overboard on the hours i play, i have tried to quit and take up other hobby, but everytime i do something i jsut think of my char on latest game, or get that beta email form some game i was waiting on^^ and end up back at the computer.
