Elite: Dangerous or Star Citizen ?

DaikuruDaikuru Member RarePosts: 797

I ignored Elite: Dangerous for some reason, but recently i looked a little deeper into it and it looks pretty good and its already in beta.

What game do you prefer Star Citizen or Elite? And for what reason?

Why not both? (insert overused meme here)

From the looks of development I think Elite Dangerous will be released long before Star Citizen ever does (if it does). So first I will be playing Elite Dangerous, and then I will play Star Citizen. Space sims have been such an unloved genre, the more the merrier in my mind.

Voted Elite..simply because it is out and mostly playable now, and will be full release soon i think.

Will be a year or more before SC i would guess. At a minimum.

Sounds like it is not much of a choice for the next year or so. Elite or...??? what? EVE?  Maybe a few other single player space games will roll out.  I have not read much on any other games that will be MMO that sound good so far. That have much hope of releasing any time soon, anyhow.

So Elite for a new game..Eve for an old one. , Sc ...meh, i can not see them being ready for release next year.

    Both

You really should have included "both" as an option!

    Vendetta Online:

It's out now. It is of the same mould as both other games mentioned.  Further, it is a fully dynamic, living world: one I am invested in.

and probably neither as another option. But I will play both as I think they will be two totally different games. The only thing that they have in common is that you fly a spaceship.
  • PepeqPepeq Member UncommonPosts: 1,977
    Neither.

I'm more into Elite because of it's open world, working galaxy and hard sci-fi vibe so my vote went for them. But, I'm also looking forward to what Star Citizen has to offer. There's a large gap between Elite's release and Star Citizen's PU release, seems silly to miss out on one due to waiting for the other.

Elite is in a much better place right now, and if you want to play with a Hotas and potentially a Rift, Elite is a significantly better flight experience.

i wouldn't even bother looking at SC for another 2-3 years, and that's being generous.

I know Elite will be released before SC, but if Elite is that much better (and i think they will improve it and maybe get it an AddOn before SC wil be released) why should i switch to SC?

    Why switch indeed? :-)

SC is taking the familiarity of popular mainstream material (Mass Effect, Crysis et al) and producing a game out of that while Elite is it's own thing due to its adherence to the previous Elite games and the devs love of open world gaming.

Only real similarity is they're both majoritively set in space.

    Both.

Backing both, playing both already (in Beta or Alpha).

Looking very much forward to the completed games.

    Have fun

Taking  a break from the daily Star Citizen bashing ?

Now that explains a lot, originally I had my bet on publisher affiliation.

Ah. Elite.. a Randomly generated game, only 4 stations, a game that hasn´t shown FPS, no avatars, no planet landings, no story, no voiceovers, no motion capturing, no hangars, no racing, no PvP arenas. I see this can CLEARLY be compared to Star Citizen and put into a poll. Totally. Well organized. I applaud you for the effort.

At least 2 people will buy the game now for the triple A full price of only 75$.

I wonder how are people enjoying the text window fetch and kill quests? Is that the pinnacle of modern game design, since you have been complaining about SC being "last gen". Kill x and deliver y is clearly totally next-gen.

Don't be such a delicate daisy. I've been backer of both for a long time now and that hardly means I can't be critical of certain aspects that I may not like.

Your retort is churlish bashing if there was ever such a thing.

We are gamer's and we should give both a fair shot.

Both is the answer, and until SC launches, ED will have quite some time to be polished and evolve into a better experience.Don't we have enough elves and orcs to play in so many different MMOs, so as to be picky in just two new space sims?

I won't play either one if i see again pointed ears, or orcish looking races, which is false since WoD cannot be disregarded especialy now that Titan is on ice, nevertheless....a Vanduul is clearly a most impressive villain....oh wait, there will be more alien races....actually, just picking some from the MMORPG forums would be the best villains for Star Citizen:P

Sc in the long run, maybe the short too.

Elite doesn't even look like an mmo to me, and it's not any more playable than SC right now.

    I support both ideas.

SC = MMO (on paper at least)

    Elite = singleplayer with co-op

It's not much of an MMO, but it is definitely much more playable than SC.

Its like comparing two dishes where you know half the ingredients and none of the dishes are yet to be completed. Both sounds interesting on paper but it means nothing until you tasted them.

You have not tried the recent patch that SC had this weekend that completely changed the feeling playing with joystick... Apparantly to a much better state. Havn't tried myself, but there are a lot of positive comments about it.

Listing features is kind of a dumb way of trying to make a point.  Someone could easily list a laundry list of features that Elite has that SC doesn't have and (especially at this point in development) make SC look like trash in comparison

Nope, I hadn't played it in a couple weeks as there really isn't anything to do at this point.  That's good to hear though, a big part of whether I'll be playing the game is how well they implement HotAs.  I don't see much point in playing a spacesim if it favors a mouse and keyboard.

Elite absolutely nails HoTas flight, the feel of the different ship types, plus it's occulus Rift experience is the best in gaming.  I almost feel like SC should just completely lift it from Elite because is so well done.

Why are you trying to create a false choice here. You can play BOTH.  I am capable of playing more than one video game at a time. I'm sure most of us are. If you insist one must choose, then you're simply being pedantic.
