Really-really?  Was excited for a new MMORPG, not a MOBAFPS.  Another let down from Blizzard?

Why would they make another MMO, they have one done and ready. And seeing how all the other games are in their own niche it would have been very strange for them to suddenly "double dip"

And honestly it looks fun as heck.

This have been a good conversation

Your own false expectations are the problem here.. After they cancelled Titan what made you think they will announce another MMO so quickly after that?

As long as WOW is alive and kicking i doubt Blizz will try to make another MMO.

Starcraft was simply Warcraft in space.  Why not give us another MMO?  They could improve the graphics, get back to functional 40+ man raiding with multiple bosses.  Tons of things a new MMO could offer.  Only everyone is content.

I just pray this wasn't "Project Titan."  If that title ever really existed.

  • ThestrainThestrain Member CommonPosts: 390
Because making another MMO would mean competing with its own WOW?  why would they do that?
  • LachyFTWLachyFTW Member UncommonPosts: 181
Why would they waste resources creating a new MMO when they already dominate that market.
  • SquishydewSquishydew Member UncommonPosts: 1,107

We probably won't see another blizzard MMO until WoW stops dominating the market.

Blizzard seems very busy spreading their name with an iron fist right now, with Heroes of the storm taking on DotA and LoL, and now Overwatch to probably get a piece of the TF2 pie.

Can't wait to see if they have any other IP's planned the coming years.

If they did that they would end up like WildStar. A lot of people "claim" to want 40 man raids and long drawn out content because they remember how fun it was the first time. There is a reason games have moved away from it. MMORPGs are a business first. Why cater to the 40 people who want 40 man raids when you could cater to the millions that find them tedious and prefer smaller content.

Also... a large chunk of players who picked up WoW when it was 40 man content were young and had a ton of time on their hands. It was also most people's first mmo, so everything was seen through rose tinted glasses. Most of us have lives now, and the glasses came off years and years ago.

Blizzard will not make another MMO, until they feel like there is room within that genre for another WoW (figuratively, ofc).

And that is assuming they are still around as a company by the time that happens. Blizzard's methodology for creating games (and their lead designer basically admitted as such, in more spun terms), is they take a genre that they like. One that is undervalued. They then copy the best game(s) from that genre, dumb it down to make it "more accessible" to a wide audience; putting their own spin on it and calling it their own.

MMOs are currently over-saturated. Which is why most of the MMOs don't come anywhere near to the same success as WoW.

I dont doubt that Overwatch will be a fun game. But I think it's somewhat difficult to believe that Blizzard isn't going to continue making games from OTHER genres. Their entire franchise is based on them doing this. And it's worked for them. So why would they stop now?

  • Overwatch: Its tf2 without the hats!

But honestly, it looks pretty fun. Nothing thats gonna stop me from playing tf2 though.

  • VrikaVrika Member LegendaryPosts: 7,989

Imho Blizzard is one of the best game studios because they don't mass produce nearly identical sequels.

We have WoW already, Overwatch looks much better than the idea of WoW 2.

Overwatch looks fantastic! I don't see how anyone could complain about it, tbh.

They are pushing the FPS genre to a different level. The amount of classes and specific roles will really push this, especially if they intend on building the amount of characters and roles.

Even if they didn't, it still looks like an extremely fun game.

Because it costs a lot of money to develop an mmo and even more money to stave off all the issues that recent mmo's seem to have after launch.

How many recent mmo's have hit the ground running, garnered a lot of players at launch and then made their money back quickly? With the promise of greater financial success going forward?

single players games that are successful seem to be able to do this easier than mmo's. And remember, it does cost money to keep mmo's up and running (which is more than just server costs) and to churn out updates and new content.

As they said, they couldn't make Titan work and be fun. The obvious thing is to take all the assets and various design decision and make a game where they could at least recoup their losses.

Why should they make a new MMO when their competitors still can't make something better then World Of Warcraft? I also want a new and amazing MMORPG, but thats not gonna happen soon, so i can understand why Blizzard went with another Genre.

    They now have:

    World Of Warcraft

    Diablo

    Heartstone

    Starcraft

    Heroes of Storm

    Overwatch

There is for everyone something here :)

Overwatch and Heroes of Storm look pretty good. Blizzard is looking strong.

This is true but as gamer's and not businessmen we tend to look at games from our perspective not theirs, not saying it is right.

From at least my perspective,Wow is anything but dominant,i can't even play it is so bad and boring.Bit i understand my opinion does not matter to them so i realize they do not need another MMo right now ,especially since it might conflict with Wow subs.

As to the video "Overwatch" the video may be in Pixar quality but that does not mean the actual game will be and i am VERY skeptical on that subject because Blizzard NEVER goes high end on graphics, they can get away with sub par effort and still sell so why change now?

Based on all we got "the video"does it look fun or cool, well yes but so did WS which used the exact same type of cutesy marketing video but the game was NOTHING like the marketing videos and i expect more the same here.

I might also add the MOST important thing in pvp is surroundings, without useful surroundings you have VERY boring stand in front of each other and pew pew pvp.Their backdrops seems about as useful as a color TV to a fish, not useful at all and that is why Blizzard does not "get it" when it comes to good game design, all they know is how to market to their fan base and they seem to gobble up everything Blizzard sells them.

What is VERY odd is how nothing at all on this game but coincidentally it arises right after Titan disappears lol AND it sure sounds a LOT like the type of game most were predicting Titan would be.I am not saying with any fact,i am just saying, sure looks odd on paper.

To me this is just another Blizzard project, i cannot take them serious when comes to quality pvp,i will still play the ancient Quake and Unreal for quality pvp.Why stick to such old games for pvp, well simple they bring ALL the elements i want from a pvp game not just the 1 or 2 most every other pvp game brings forth.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Heroes of the Storm currently has 2.25 million players currently logged on and playing during Alpha. When it goes live I wouldn't be surprised seeing it at 4-5 million.

I'm pretty sure any game Blizzard makes will have a few million players so why not go for some FPS arena action?

Well said! Couldn't have said it any better myself.

Carbine Studios has learned it the hard way with Wildstar. Listening to a very tiny hardcore, very vocal group of players and got burned into financial ruin because of it.

That game will never recover and with NCSoft's track record with underperforming games, it will be shutdown within a year from now.

I am with you OP. No Incentive to make deep, open world, full featured games anymore. Just slap together a quick MOBA or FPS and make your millions.

I am not saying the game won't be fun, I think it will, it just won't hold my attention for very long and if it isn't free then I probably won't even end up buying it.

They have one MMORPG on the market that happens to have come out at a good time to hold a large portion of the market. Or you could go the NCSoft route and have the vast majority of the top 10-20 MMORPG's on the market at any given time all just different enough to attract different audiences (or in some cases, the same people will just buy and play several of NCSoft's games). Either way, NCSoft is making almost as much money as Blizzard but with a much more well-rounded and safe portfolio, so if one game's sales start to decline they're still going to be fine. As much as people like to hate on NCSoft, they're smart business people. When World of Warcraft starts declining enough, Blizzard better hope they have another cash cow waiting in the wings because the majority of their money comes from that one game and that's not a safe nor healthy way to go. They're just lucky right now.

Talk about clueless? Warcraft 2 was absolutely nothing compared to Starcraft, which was one of the first RTS games to provide 3 completely unique factions while remaining highly balanced.

I'm somewhat disappointed by the TF2 model for Overwatch too, but it will likely be a fun game still.

There's no chance in hell that they're going back to 40 man raiding anymore. If you played that content you'd know, considering they haven't returned to that form of raiding in seven years. Blizzard isn't interested in backtracking to that.

The 40-man raid died with Wildstar.

Even worse. No disrespect to World of Warcraft, the game did great things for the MMO world. However developers realize the majority of people nowadays just want to pop into a match, have their fun, and leave it at that. So maybe the MMO as we know it really is dead? Or maybe not dead, just not a promising future....
