Someone actually called this not too long ago on these forums. There was a post somewhere about what Titan actually was and this seems to be it.

"""Players would be able to select from classes with names like Reaper, Jumper, Titan, Ranger, and Juggernaut, each of which had its own special combat abilities and items, according to a source. Jumpers, for example, would be agile scouts with a teleport ability and the ability to quickly leap in and out of combat. Titans were tanks, while Rangers were snipers with cloaking and other abilities (think Nova from StarCraft II and the ill-fated StarCraft Ghost)."""
So the recent interview from Blizzard talking about how they scrapped Titan was just a load of BS because some of these leaks were actually true.

Are you saying they lied to investors and their fans because people leaked information that wasn't even accurate compared to the trailer?
And you don't think THAT would've leaked? Rofl.
I wouldn't say the "proof" is 100% accurate, since at the Overwatch panel they mentioned the Overwatch faction in game was created to fight off robots, but it seems to me this is where the majority of Titan's assets went to. I bet they shifted assets a while back knowing that the Titan original idea wasn't going to work (the ideas presented in your link), but potentially scaled back to a shooter.
From the linked article
One person connected to Blizzard told me that "a good handful" of the Titan team is actually still intact, despite yesterday's news that the game has been cancelled.
"They changed the code-name after that reboot," said that person. "So the project that was 'Titan' did die last year."
So yeah, not project Titan exactly, but a shifting of the assets and reboot.
It would be funny if true. It just doesn't make sense though. Titan was hyped up, then scrapped. Why would Blizzard want to kill that hype? The only thing i can think of, is because it might've failed, so they renamed it to something else. It sill wouldn't make sense though. It's also not uncommon for developers to borrow or use resources from dead projects and put them into another project.
Did you even bother reading your own link? They clearly said the Titan project is definitely finished. A handful of the team that was working on Titan stayed together, but whatever they churn out isn't going to be anywhere near the scale Titan was being made into. So even if Overwatch uses a lot of the designs, plot, core ideas that was going to be in Titan, does not mean Blizzard simply changed the name from Titan to Overwatch and just came out and said they were scrapping development for Titan just for shits and giggles.
You're trying to make nothing into something.

Are you saying they really didn't scrap it and they are still working on under a different name?
bingo, thats exactly what hes saying and indeed what blizzard will do.

All of the people who described the game to me made a lot of Team Fortress comparisons both in terms of aesthetics and gameplay. Three people who saw the game have compared the aesthetics to Team Fortress 2, with one source describing it as a cross between StarCraft II's in-game cinematics and Pixar's The Incredibles. Your perspective would switch between first- and third-person based on whether you were heading into combat or hanging out in a city, according to two sources—not unlike Bungie's Destiny.
The fact that Jeff Kaplan is the lead developer for both games also ties them together
otherwise, i agree, I don't think they renamed Titan to Overwatch
but borrowed heavily from the existing game assets

People here still surprised that Blizzard lies?
come on people...
Philosophy of MMO Game Design
Or they had Titan "the mmo" couldn't make it work, scrapped that project, took the assets, programming, design decisions, etc and used them in a different game and one where it would work well.
Maybe the combat in Overwatch was the only part of Titan that worked so they decided to develop that into a [edit] different game.
Because otherwise, what you are saying is "they canceled Titan and then the released it!" But with a different name!
That doesn't make sense.

"come on" yourself.
They never gave any real information about Titan, didn't "promise anything'. They couldn't make it work so they made what did work into a game. That seems far more plausible than them lying about an mmo only to then release a completely different game. Heck, all they would have had to do was say "we've changed our mind this is better".
As a matter of fact it makes complete sense that they would balk at releasing a new mmo given the current mmo climate. Players have hyped themselves so high that anything they released wouldn't fill the bill.

Pretty much this, but I figured people were spart enough to figure it out on their own without me having to write a 10000 word post with my thoughts.
Seems some people dont understand the name "Titan" was just a code name for the project..
Please post a thread on why I am supposed to care about any of this.
I only care about actual games, not why they are made or how they happened to get named. This might be classified as an an amusing fact if true, nothing more.
FFA Nonconsentual Full Loot PvP ...You know you want it!!
But it's not implausible that Overwatch is a completely unrelated project and they have yet to use any of Titan's assets for another game.

So if this is just a naked attempt to monetize the leftover scraps of Titan how was Blizzards statement that they had scrapped Titan in any way misleading as your OP suggest?
Sounds to be like it just went from a WoW-scale full blown MMO to a Destiny-style lobby shooter.
Either way, /yawn.
From Kotaku :
UPDATE (5:15pm): Blizzard's Chris Metzen confirmed this afternoon during an Overwatch panel that this game did indeed evolve from the remnants of Titan, as we reported, although he did specify that Overwatch is "a very different game."
There you go!
Yes, yes, ... sure it was. Anything to make you happy. :-)
Personally? I could not care less. As long there is Wow I'm happy. But will try this one.
Ok, they scrapped "Titan" but took some art assets, coding and personnel from that project and made a new game, a rather significantly different one at that.
So what? I don't see whats the big deal in any of this.
Game looks fun as heck though!
