Nope. I'm getting older and I don't want to take any more steps toward The Matrix. I will let the younger generations wrestle with that one. If all games go the VR way in my lifetime, I will just go back to books as long as they are still available.

Definitely not before I have the chance to try one on and see how much I find it worth the deal.

Even then I probably will have better things to spend my disposable income on.

Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!

Occulus Rift for sure, that thing is amazing. There is already nice games available for it and most AAA games coming out soon will be ready for it. They even have movement detector available for it and also making addons to have hands movements , etc for those that play mmorpgs or mmofps.

It can also be use as a theater system for movies or general computer usage. The only thing i am worried about is how physically i will react to it at long term use. It is possible i will have to reduce my computer usage even more to not harm myself. ( eyes, coordination, etc . )

I think i might try on a friend's one and actually wait for some more developments before investing money on it.

But definitly will buy it. I mean, doesn't matter if ur young or old, casual or hardcore, being able to "live" even if for moments in another "reality" is an experience, unlike any other :) It's kinda like going to the first 3D movies and stuff. It's one of those "well, i'm curious". I bet even my grandma will eventually want to "put the mask on" just to see what the hell is happening there out of pure curiosity :P

would like to try one before this poxy gist gets the best of me, just as long as i dont actually have to wave my arms around like a madman to get my toon to swing his weapons.

Occulus Rift looks to be the headgear of choice, hope that can play ESOL with it.

anything to improve the escapism that games give these days would be welcome. as long as it dosnt include having to decide between two coloured pills

i look this wrecked because i've got GIST.
    Whats your excuse?

Wasn't going to, but then I got to try Rift and it was great. I'll still wait to see what the support will be like, but it looks promising.

I will eventually but will likely wait a while for them to mature first.

I am worried I might get stricken with bad headaches. I suffer from a form of motion sickness that affects me in FPS games so I will have to check how this technology affects me before I spend any money on it. I even had a mild form of it in ESO so am getting more susceptible as I grow long in the tooth. I sound like some old womem "damn this new-fangled devices they be getting me all muddled in the head now".image

At least I'm not as bad as my husband he only recently learnt how to text.

This is a good, useful poll. I would have thought that more people would have picked up an Occulus Facerift DK2 by now. It seems that the installed base is very, very low at this time. Good info, thx.

And, no, I am not interested in strapping anything onto my face while I game; I want to drink my beer, check the time, keep track of the food on the stove, and live life while I play.

Eventually when they make a game worth me buying one.
  • RusqueRusque Member RarePosts: 2,785

I'll go where the games are. And "VR" already has one major strike against it . . . I don't particularly care for first person perspective in my games. So the games will have to really stand out and not just be "FPS #432987 except in VR" they'll need to really push the boundaries of interaction.

In short, if the games are there, I'll be there. If not, then no.

Not buying one, I have no interest in gimmicky peripherals. I'm also not a big fan of headsets, I can't even use my Turtle Beach x12 for that long without it annoying me.
  • sunandshadowsunandshadow Member RarePosts: 1,985
I really want one but I suspect it will give me violent motion sickness.  So I'll wait until I can test one in person and check if that happens.  Plus it would have to fit comfortably over my glasses, which seems tricky.
I want to help design and develop a PvE-focused, solo-friendly, sandpark MMO which combines crafting, monster hunting, and story.  So PM me if you are starting one.

Pretty much my thoughts, too. Heck, I am annoyed with the usage of "The Cloud" for storage these days :)

Besides, I wear glasses and though I am sure that will be taken into account, I really have no desire for VR devices.

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.

This current iteration of strapping a display to my face - nope.

My feelings exactly, until they can beam  it into my head I'm not going to consider it.

I kind of voted a little too quickly, but I've had a 720p Occulus for a while now.

These devices will kick total ass when it comes to racing sims and combat aircraft sims. Everything else I've tried is meh...

I'll be waiting for a while. The 720p just doesn't cut the mustard resolution wise (it's quite bad so close to your eyes) that I don't think 1080p will be a big enough improvement resolution wise (For Me)

I will eventually get one. I will however wait until things are stable and the technology is well embedded in games.

No, I can see the novelty, I most certainly would try one out but it's really not necessary for me.

Additionally, the idea of strapping something to my face isn't really my thing.

I enjoy combat flight-sims greatly, and two of my current favourite online games (War Thunder and Elite:Dangerous) already support the Oculus. Star Citizen most likely will also have built-in OR support.

So the choice for me is a no-brainer, I'll buy an Oculus as soon as it is commercially released.

You are just talking about something that sits on your head and as you turn your head the world turns?

That is what happens in a game when you turn left or right, no big deal. True virtual reality devices are a long way of, but when we get one of those and can 'jack in' I will be there. :)
