I dont see it being a fit for those genres at all.
People may say it will add to the immersion, but immersion is more about the quality of the game world which very, very few games get right. The so called 'VR' will more than likely detract from the immersion because of the uncanny valley effect.
FPS are a different story, i can see VR enhancing that style of game. But I don't enjoy that genre at all. Flight/Space sims too.
actually RPG´s like the elder scrolls games could see some use out of a VR set. Same with some MMO´s if you build them for VR from the ground up. But they would most likley be limited to what can be mapped to a controller.
You are ofc right on that any game that has a drivers seat will work much better with the current tech level of VR.

This.
I have no interest in FPS games or Console /Controller based games even if they are made like a MMO, I have no interest in OR or other like devices.
Originally posted by Takoo They are so far from basic proof of concept and are not clunky in the least bit. OR has almost zero weight while wearing it.
Not far enough. By clunky I wasn't referring to the weight, more the very basic nature of the games/demos they have released so far. Bad choice of word on my part.
If I had one of these gadgets it would amuse me for 10 minutes then get consigned to a cupboard, the stage they are at now.
I want one to watch movies on, assuming that the movie watching experience is super awesome. I'm not talking about watching 3D movies. I'm talking about a simulation in which I'm sitting in a virtual movie theater watching a movie on a virtual 2D screen. Then I would just set up a bad ass sound system and watch movies in my room. No dickheads in front of me texting in the theater, or talking to their idiot friends. No candy wrappers making noise all the time. No dumb ass previews or ads before the movie.
If the VR device is awesome with gaming that is just a bonus to me. I'll only definitely get it for movies if it's awesome like that.
I think something like Google Glass or 3DS is more likely to be the way of the future then Oculus Rift or Sony's Project Morpheus, in this respect. VR is, always has been, and probably always will be a pipe dream. A lot like Hover Boards. Are they technically doable? Yes; Are worth it? Definitely not. And, there are some really good reason for that.
In general, it is not a convenient form of entertainment. It asks you to completely disconnect from real world situational awareness. It requires a lot more equipment in bulkier portions (no matter how much they try to slim it down), then most any other kind of Entertainment. It will never be cheaper then a high-res gaming alternatives either (it actually compounds the price point almost exponentially of what ever existing setup someone already has). There are also numerous mental and physical health related issues that the tech from this level of immersion causes which have never been resolved.
So, It has lost the battle before it began for all the same reasons the Nickelodeon lost out to the Movie Theater. And every time someone tries to bring this back around to a thing that is going to happen. Game developers, publishers, and companies loose millions on the prospect. By it's very concept it is just not a practical thing.

In English...they said Oculus has many problems. The author had glasses, and he couldn't see sharp with it. Another issue is that after a few hours, Oculus really pulls on your head with the straps. Another issue was that he said Oculus does weighs too much after a while.
The Sony Morpheus didn't have this issue. But it had many other issues, slowdown, unsharpness.

VR currently is riddled with issues.
Oculus is slightly heavier than an unopened can of coke. Not exactly light.
