SWG is the best MMO on the market Why:
Character creation is the best out there. Massively customizable.
Variety of things to do. No other game except UO compares with the versatility of a single character.
Player Housing: 2nd Best available (Best being UO, imo, some would reverse that and place SWG 1st)
Has 3D "twitch" 1st (or 2nd) person Spaceflight combat. Via Mouse, Keyboard and/or Joystick.
Depth: You get out of SWG what you put into it. If you expect a game to hand-hold you and force-feed you with things to do, go play EQII or WOW. SWG gives you the environment to play in and there are lots of things to do if YOU choose to. It doesn't force you down any particular path.
Immersiveness, especially post CU: Pre CU SWG felt like Star Wars on top of a Fantasy RPG with a different type of combat system. Now it feels like Star Wars, period. Bringing a Knife to a Gunfight is generally a bad idea now, it was the opposite pre-CU. You come running at me and I'm going to 1st shoot your leg and stop your sorry but then knock your ass over then kill you. You may actually reach me but by then it'll be way too late, especially if you're alone even if I'm not wearing my assault armor.
Content: SWG has gobs and gobs and gobs of content. High end, low end, you name it it's out there. Some of it is currently bugged due to the CU messing it up but once they finish fixing all the crap that broke it'll be 1st rate again.
Graphics: NO other game, none, has better graphics. EQ2 has some nice features but SWG's graphics are better. WoW has nice graphics but they come across way too cartoony. SWG's graphics are highly detailed, extremely versatile, very well choreographed for movement and the most customizeable of any I have ever seen. I have yet to see two players who look identical unless they just happen to be wearing the same exact set of armor. And even then the color varieties are amazing. SWG's graphics also are extremely well done for look/feel of the game. When you play SWG t here is no doubt in your mind that you're in the Star Wars universe. None whatsoever.

What a lot of tripe written here,
Seriously do you REALLY play SWG.
I have been playing since 26th june 2003 and i know exactly what this game is all about.
SOE ruined SWG with broken promises, jedi, perma-death removed. which means your end character that was designed to have 3 deaths only. is now indestructable.
Its based around new hope and empire. yet all the main characters have been in the same place for 2 years!!!
bugs, bugs, too many to moan about. Every class was nerfed, only viable options where TKM and jedi everyone else would die very fast.
when we first logged in this game was SW. now its a collection of muppets. and i warn any new player not to touch this game at all.
No one really does jump to light speed any more, so enjoy if you really really must.

SWG has a few pitfalls that can lead to burn-out (going Jedi, trying to run a business empire) and new players need to be warned about that. But certainly there is no reason to regret playing SWG as long as you are having fun (and for instance I do have fun for about 2 years now). --> have fun, Erillion

Well I have to question wether you currently even play the game. Most of your post isn't even talking about current issues. Your still sore over permadeath going away, how long ago was that and your talking about it like its news??
And you CERTAINLY are not speaking post CU. Your profession statements are completely off base. I suggest you actually play the game in its current state and THEN comment or stop acting like you know something you don't.
You want to discuss the current issues with the game, get current first, you obviously aren't.

Did they say something about your mother or something that you can go on with this one tracked hatred at anything said positive about it and try (poorly I might add) to twist it for your advantage?
So Fade-us, did SoE make any of those finally? (Are there any player that called them Sony Online Entertainment everytime they can instead of just throwing SoE. Especially on a board where everyone play a game product they made, or at least plan doing so?)
In this sentence, he was trashing an argument who was encouraging folks to go to WoW(not a SoE product...yet). Even if you assume he would be against SWG for any reason, why do you automatically assume it is aimed at SoE and not LA?

Awww, Anofayle you came all the way into this thread just to try to insult me in choppy english. I am really touched. Next time though could ya make it so I can read it? All I got was I actually sometimes type out Sony Online Entertainment instead of saying SOE, obviously you feel bad english isn't a crime, however I do try to not fall victim to online "isms" and a world of acronyms.
And BTW, its SOE, not SoE.

It is you, not me, that try to make fun of the other person signature.
It is you that judge someone to be ''poorly I might add''.
Yet, in your mind, I am the offender! A SoE lead manager you are I assume! *take a Yoda stance*
Maybe if you dont want me to snoop on you, the first thing to do is to not try to make fun of my signature and just ignoring it, however, I actually enjoy it when I see you grant me that much importance!
PS: English is like mana, it is overated! (dont pull LOM) Incoming 7!!!(a lucky number)

Well in fact, ill explain my Character to you.
never know you might know it.
Jessian Kaaneo Eclipse, Bounty Hunter since launch, and yes my account still lets me in game until end of october 2005.
so i do know what im talking about. the game was fine at launch, no one knew how to become jedi. and to stop the exodus of lamer american players that were leaving in droves. SOE decided to unlesh jedi.
Oh. remember the holocron phase? where you had to master 40+ professions on a wild goose chase with the mad holocrons.
LOL
now its all ebay jedi.
and yes i played after CU. which is a joke. im stuck with robotic legs i cant even remove from my character tech support and in game CSRs cant even FIX their bug!

"I've been a bounty hunter since launch and hate the fact that Jedi can kill me"

You rant and rave about the holo-grinders but hologrinding was removed almost a year ago. You rant and rave about the CU but obviously don't know enough to know that all you have to do is go to a NPC city and get the doctor on the 2nd floor to regenerate your limbs. (I know, I've done it. If there's a BUG preventing you from doing it why are you blaming the CSR's??? That's a DEV problem and this is the first I've heard of that bug, several people in my PA have had to have their limbs re-grown.)
I played the game during Beta. It was *not* fine at Launch. The only reason I played at all at launch was because I had a free account from a friend. I didn't pay for it, nor did I extend it beyond the free period he gave me. I didn't start using it again until the free trial came out (and I just used the trial Key to re-activate). That was just before JTL came out last June. The game was MUCH improved (though I admit Jedi were a tad out of hand). Adding Jedi, I agree, was a mistake. But they're here now and no ammount of whining is going to make them go away. The game is MUCH better now than at any previous point in it's existance.
Currently Playing: Dungeons and Dragons Online. Sig image Pending Still in: A couple Betas
it is Star Wars. and if you like space sim style games, you'll love the JT feature. the quests aren't any more or less complex then any other games quests system, they ALWAYS boil down to delivery or destroy, so that can get a tad repetitive. the crafting system is hands down the most complex of any MMORPG (although the crafting professions have their faults), if you decide to be a crafter, you'll have your work cut out for you.
The community is actually very strong, and of all the games i've played, SWG has some of the friendliest and most helpful players around. dont get me wrong, there are jerks that try to ruin it, but those are found in any game. the good outweighs the bad as far as community goes.
i can only speak for myself and my PA, but we all love the game and try to play whenever possible. i think this rule applies to all MMORPG's, find yerself a good guild/pa with some decent people, and you cant go wrong.

Very well said, I agree with all of it myself. I am starting a tailor this weekend on an alt accoutn and I am rather anxious to start crafting again.

i'll put it this way, i thought the spice crafting tree for getting to Master Smuggler was brutal....i KNOW i'd have no business trying a REAL crafting profession.
i'm just that guy that will never "get" crafting in any game ever, but i can appreciate the system.

why cant you understand, i dont care about the game anymore. games gone, busted, finished. NOT worth the money!!!!
so you stick to paying $15 a month, ill sit over here and LAugh
Ill stick to playing Guild Wars and WoW. you stick to this piece of crap.
SWG HAD (past tense) the best Crafting model hands down.
For me, personally, it was the meat and potatoes of the game.
Missions-to put it nicely, boring. As others have said it boils down to destroy or delivery.
Most of the content anymore, post-CU, is group biased.
Solo play can, and probably will, drive you insane with its difficulty.
Anything +5 lvls of yours means instant death. Doesnt matter what gear or skills your packing, your just not going to win.
Anything -5 lvls of yours is boring as hell. And to top it off, your not going to get much, if any, xp for it either.
Group play can be better, but then your forced to put up with and deal with every low life and moron this type of game attracts. That or you run the risk of siting for a half hour+ trying to find a party, due to the extremely low server loads post-CU.
Pre-CU (Combat Upgrade) I would have recommended this game to everyone I knew. Post-CU, makes a good coaster.
As far as Star Wars content, it at least looks kinda like SW, even if it doesnt play or sound much like Star Wars.

Again, there you go trying to debate my opinion. I no longer feel, do in large part to the massive amounts of changes that were done to crafting, from removing experimentation to reducing the effectiveness of items that people had already created, that its is the best any longer. IMO, pre-CU was a better crafting model. Therefore, if I believe that pre-CU was better, its no longer the best IMO, is it?

RotW is a paid for add on to the game. Last I checked, this was a discussion on the core game, not paid for add-ons. One should not have to purchase add-ons to get content that doesnt bore one to death. Add ons are suppost to add content to the game. Not make the game playable. Care to comment on the missions that are currently in the core game? They are boring, were pre-CU, are post-CU. Just about everyone agree's on that. Well maybe not you, but most of the folks that I've actually discussed this issue with.
Most of the content anymore, post-CU, is group biased. --> I would say thats true, but can be done solo (but then its harder).
The ability to solo, or not, wasnt the topic of this particular quote. Thats the next one. Dont get ahead of yourself E.

Your sanity, or lack thereof is still under debate. (Thats good natured ribbing, just in case you couldnt tell) You disagree with me on this point. Fine. Fair even. Boils down to a difference in our opinions, and I'm cool with that.
Anything +5 lvls of yours means instant death. Doesnt matter what gear or skills your packing, your just not going to win. --> It means its hard, but its killable. +10 is instant death. But if you are level 80 (=max) everything is killable (unless its a bug like the 145 level Corvette super battle droids, but they are being worked on as we speak).
Great, being worked on. Same was said about smugglers how long ago? BTW, those bugs, werent limited to SBD's. I've personally seen more than a few creatures/antagonists who were well over lvl 100. As to the +5 lvls thing, I know of which I speak. I was, when I still had an active account, a TKM/Fencer with a smattering of non-combat skills, Lvl 80. Least thats what it said in the white circle next to my health bar that floated over my head. First day the CURB was live, April 27th or 28th, I logged in bright and early. Sunrunner had just come up. Very first thing I do was to go out and start testing it. Went to Dath, as I was in the middle of working on becoming fully FS, so figured I would try out a couple critters on the way out. First thing I ran into was a lvl 62 rancor. After about 8-10 min of trading blow for blow with it, I killed it. 1xp. WOW. Less than enthused, I continued on my way to the village. Got out my swoop, hoped on and started on my way. Lo and behold, I see a lvl 87 Nightsister, dont remember what time exactly. I figure, hey, rancor gave me crap, maybe this would be better. Get off the bike and proceed to close to aggro distance. Three (3) hits later, I was rezing at the cloner saying "WTH!" I didnt even scratch the thing. Sounds like instant death to me. Now granted, perhaps they have fixed this. Then again, with the track record that SoE currently has, perhaps not.
Anything -5 lvls of yours is boring as hell. And to top it off, your not going to get much, if any, xp for it either. --> Which does not bother anyone out hunting meat/hide/bones or loot ... most already have maxxed out toons anyway. If I want to gain XP, I get a mission which is suited to my level from a terminal. Or I know where mobs of certain level live and do it there.
Might not bother anyone out hunting meat/hide/bones, but then again it just might bother those who are still trying to advance in the game. Great, so you go to a mission term to get xp. That is how YOU play. MMORPG's are about playing what ever style suits you best. However, when the game makes some play styles inpractical, your being forced to play the way they want you too. Might as well play a single player/liniar offline game then.
Group play can be better, but then your forced to put up with and deal with every low life and moron this type of game attracts. That or you run the risk of siting for a half hour+ trying to find a party, due to the extremely low server loads post-CU. --> Or you just join a guild. Again, your being forced to play the game in a particular way. Even with all the complaints about the game pre-CU, this wasnt one of them. You like to group up, great. I dont, for the reasons I listed. There are alot of low lifes and morons in the game. The influx of movie fanboi's is only going to make the problem worse. There is no reason why you should have to sit in a town spaming "LFG" to play the game. There just isnt. As for joining a guild, you shouldnt have to to enjoy the game. It should be something that you choose to do, not forced to do.
As far as Star Wars content, it at least looks kinda like SW, even if it doesnt play or sound much like Star Wars. --> You can make it as Star Warsy as you want by joining one of the roleplayer cities on various servers. --> have fun, Erillion
How does joining a city change the fact that they added in spell like partical effects? How about the non-sw feel to the new skill graphics? How about the lack of much of the music from the movies? I sure dont remember Obi or Vader having to wait for his saber attack to "cool down". I dont remember glowing rings around Hans or Lukes head when ever they got stunned. And dont even get me started on -ROOT-! Joining a player city does not add to the Star Wars "feel" to the game. Just means that there are other people around you. Oh joy!
Again, there you go trying to debate my opinion. --> Well, as you NOW have added "IMHO" this is something different. Your original posting ususal states your opinion as facts, which they are not. You are entitled to your opinion of course.
RotW is a paid for add on to the game. Last I checked, this was a discussion on the core game, not paid for add-ons. --> Check again. In the original posting someone said he will get the complete package .. thats core game plus expansions. So we are talking about all the game has to offer here. Care to comment on the missions that are currently in the core game? They are boring, were pre-CU, are post-CU. Just about everyone agree's on that. Well maybe not you, but most of the folks that I've actually discussed this issue with.
--> The main reason is that people have not really tried very hard to find the interesting missions pre-CU. Here is a really long list of quests, quite a few of them linked storyline quests http://swg.allakhazam.com/db/quests.html --> and I very much doubt that most of the folks your talked to have even tried half of the listed quests. That being said, the RotW quests are better than the old missions/quests.
You disagree with me on this point. Fine. Fair even. Boils down to a difference in our opinions, and I'm cool with that. --> Me 2.
BTW, those bugs, werent limited to SBD's. I've personally seen more than a few creatures/antagonists who were well over lvl 100. --> In week one, yes. And it has been /bug ged countless times. They patched it quickly.
Might not bother anyone out hunting meat/hide/bones, but then again it just might bother those who are still trying to advance in the game. Great, so you go to a mission term to get xp. That is how YOU play. --> No, that is the official suggestion by SOE on how to get appropriate mobs for your level. For maximum experience gain. I play differently (I know where mobs of various levels spawn, so I go there). MMORPG's are about playing what ever style suits you best. However, when the game makes some play styles inpractical, your being forced to play the way they want you too. Might as well play a single player/liniar offline game then. --> I dont see any play style that is not viable anymore. Solo play is SLOWER than group play, but it works. Or do you mean slower gain has "broken" it ? It only means that instead of 2 weeks to master a profession you may need 4 weeks. Wow. Big difference. Compared to FFXI, AO, EQ, DAOC or even WoW thats "nuffing".
Again, your being forced to play the game in a particular way. --> No one forces you. You only force yourself if you want to advance faster. And yes, IMHO, there should be areas/mobs you cannot explore/defeat solo. Thats the "Multiplayer" in MMORPG. You like to group up, great. --> I said its EASY to form a group. I play solo 80 % of the time. By choice. I dont, for the reasons I listed. There are alot of low lifes and morons in the game. The influx of movie fanboi's is only going to make the problem worse. --> May i suggest you choose a different server. It sounds like the community on your server is nothing like the people I have encountered (with the possible exception of some exploiting Jedi I have seen, but I guess their numbers are being thinned out more and more now as they are no longer UBER). There is no reason why you should have to sit in a town spaming "LFG" to play the game. There just isnt. --> And there is no reason. And no need. You can do it because there are benefits to grouping over solo. I did not say you HAVE to do it. As for joining a guild, you shouldnt have to to enjoy the game. It should be something that you choose to do, not forced to do. --> Same as above. You dont HAVE to. But you can, because there are advantages. But its YOUR choice.
How does joining a city change the fact that they added in spell like partical effects? ---> Ever tried to just turn down the particle effect slider in the options menu ? You dont like it ? Dont use it ! You wont see any of them (any more than pre-CU) if you dont want to. How about the non-sw feel to the new skill graphics? --> Purely personal choice here. I dont particularily like the new symbols, but they for sure are better than the bland old ones IMHO. How about the lack of much of the music from the movies? --> I find PLENTY of music from the movies in the game. I LOVE the possibility to compose my own songs and do a stage show around it. My personal favorite is the juke box of the event perks. And dont even get me started on -ROOT-! --> What ? You are surprised by people NOT sprinting god-mode-like into a hail of fire ? Its like in real life. If someone with a ranged weapon lobs 10 shots per second your way you are NOT running up to him with a sword without cover ! And you are not sticking your head around a corner to shoot if volley upon volley slowly blows the very same corner into little concrete rubble pieces. Joining a player city does not add to the Star Wars "feel" to the game. Just means that there are other people around you. Oh joy! --> Please read my posting again. I suggested to join a ROLEPLAYER player city, of which there are many. These people stay in character when online, therefore the SW immersion factor is much greater as you are treated like a character in the movie and they expect you to behave like one too. --> Have fun, Erillion
Again, there you go trying to debate my opinion. --> Well, as you NOW have added "IMHO" this is something different. Your original posting ususal states your opinion as facts, which they are not. You are entitled to your opinion of course.
To me, my opinions are facts, just like to you, your opinion is fact. Thats why you suggest to play the game and I dont.

So he did. Still doesnt change the fact that you shouldnt have to buy add ons to enjoy quality content.
Wow, I can run from one static NPC to another, possibly on a different planet. Still doesnt change the fact that the missions for the large part are boring. As to not trying very hard, thats an awfully bold statement, and one you cannot back up at all, so I'll simply put it down to your opinion. See, I've played through most of those missions. I WAS Force sensitive after all. They still boil down to delivery or destroy missions. Get mission, run/ride to mission location, kill 4-5 enemy/deliver package/person, return, rinse and repeat. Doesnt matter if its the Imperial/Rebel/Jabba themepark or what ever. The missions are uninspired. Basicly they are the same type of missions you can get from the regular mission term's, ya just got run way out of the way to get the missions. I just dont know how much clearer that can be made to ya. Perhaps I just have higher standards in this reguard.
BTW, those bugs, werent limited to SBD's. I've personally seen more than a few creatures/antagonists who were well over lvl 100. --> In week one, yes. And it has been /bug ged countless times. They patched it quickly.
Week one huh? Thats interesting seeing as how I was still seeing it by the time that I left SWG in Mid May and the CURB came out in late April. Still, if they had done a proper QA on TC when the CURB was there, would have been caught right away and the live server players would never have had to deal with it, would they?
Might not bother anyone out hunting meat/hide/bones, but then again it just might bother those who are still trying to advance in the game. Great, so you go to a mission term to get xp. That is how YOU play. --> No, that is the official suggestion by SOE on how to get appropriate mobs for your level. For maximum experience gain. I play differently (I know where mobs of various levels spawn, so I go there).
Ahhh, so now we are down to quoteing the PR department at SoE are we? Guess we should start throwing bacta shots at our ships too, because thats what SoE has told you to do to fix your ship. Yes, that actually came from a CSR. Crafters should also hire bodyguards to go check their harvesters too, huh?
MMORPG's are about playing what ever style suits you best. However, when the game makes some play styles inpractical, your being forced to play the way they want you too. Might as well play a single player/liniar offline game then. --> I dont see any play style that is not viable anymore. Solo play is SLOWER than group play, but it works. Or do you mean slower gain has "broken" it ? It only means that instead of 2 weeks to master a profession you may need 4 weeks. Wow. Big difference. Compared to FFXI, AO, EQ, DAOC or even WoW thats "nuffing".
What about those lvl80 folks who cannot gain exp from 75-80% of the random spawned monsters without grouping up? Previous to the CURB, this wasnt the case. This is directly related to the lvl dmg multiplyer and xp conversion that was put into the CURB. So, if you cannot gain xp, solo, from the majority of the games agressive creatures, sounds fairly unviable to me. Then again, I guess we will have to boil that down to a difference of our opinions, again. I see that as an artificial limit placed on how you can play the game.
Again, your being forced to play the game in a particular way. --> No one forces you. You only force yourself if you want to advance faster. And yes, IMHO, there should be areas/mobs you cannot explore/defeat solo. Thats the "Multiplayer" in MMORPG.
I guess you can call it a choice, but I dont see it that way. I agree that you shouldnt be able to solo everything in the game, but you should be able to solo 75-80% of the game content, which you cannot do atm. Multiplayer does not mean forced grouping. Just means that there will be more than one person in the game world at a time.
You like to group up, great. --> I said its EASY to form a group. I play solo 80 % of the time. By choice.
Sorry, going to call bullshit here. It isnt Easy to form a group. Did you even bother going to the mining outpost after the CURB? I saw about 10 people standing around spaming "LFG" for extended periods of time, 30+ min.
So now we are down to server hopping in an effort to find a group now, huh? I had a full account. Means that I had a toon on 8 different servers, and the result was still the same. No one around. Maybe it was just my bad luck to have toons on the 8 servers that were dead, but that just seems a bit improbable to me. And to assume that people left strickly because they werent "ubber" is narrow minded of you. You havent spoken to the majority of players who left, so you dont have a clue as to their own personal reason for such. For me, it was because I wont pay to beta test a game, period. Too many other companies that will either let me do it for free, or pay me! Before you attempt to go into how I wouldnt know what a beta game is, stop. I have worked a multitude of different games from Sid Myers Alpha Centari to Microsofts Allegiance. My current project is DDO.
There is no reason why you should have to sit in a town spaming "LFG" to play the game. There just isnt. --> And there is no reason. And no need. You can do it because there are benefits to grouping over solo. I did not say you HAVE to do it.
Again, I disagree. People dont spam "LFG" because its fun for them. They do it because that is they only way they can get a group. The fact that they do have to do it speaks volumes.
How does joining a city change the fact that they added in spell like partical effects? ---> Ever tried to just turn down the particle effect slider in the options menu ? You dont like it ? Dont use it ! You wont see any of them (any more than pre-CU) if you dont want to.
Well, for one, that wasnt an option while I was still playing the game. Thats besides the point though. When did any of the characters in the movies ever have floating rings around their head/body while stunned or under the effect of a skill? Heck, Yoda didnt even have any when he was using the force to augment his abilitys when he fought Dooku or Palpatine. After all, we are talking about Star Wars flavor here. Cheesy partical effects like that are seen in Fantasy RPG's, or kiddy games, Not Star Wars.
How about the non-sw feel to the new skill graphics? --> Purely personal choice here. I dont particularily like the new symbols, but they for sure are better than the bland old ones IMHO.
perhaps, but at least the old icons were much easyer to see and tell at a glace what it was. Again, perhaps that was due to the fact that I was used to the old ones. Point being, most of the vets prefered the old Icons, and I fail to remember where the icons were an issue the CURB was suppost to address to begin with.
How about the lack of much of the music from the movies? --> I find PLENTY of music from the movies in the game. I LOVE the possibility to compose my own songs and do a stage show around it. My personal favorite is the juke box of the event perks.
One or two of the composed works from the movies does not equal plenty. I suggest you take a look on Sony's own forums. Alot of people have complained about the lack of SW music.
Yea, much better to have a spell like effect which glues the PC to the floor so he cant move. Thats much more Star Wars feeling. Even the Jedi never had this ablity.
You stated that if a player wants SW feeling, they should join a roleplayer city. It doesnt add to the feeling to me. I never was a huge group player. As for roleplaying, you can do that anywhere, dont have to join someones city to do that. I'm talking about the general flavor of the game. If the game dont feel like Star Wars, really doesnt matter where or if you decide to throw down a house in someones city, it still isnt going to feel like Star Wars. The "feeling" of a game is generated by the game itself, not the players choices. A players choices can enhance that feeling, but not create it.
Originally posted by jessian why cant you understand, i dont care about the game anymore. games gone, busted, finished. NOT worth the money!!!!:D so you stick to paying $15 a month, ill sit over here and LAugh Ill stick to playing Guild Wars and WoW. you stick to this piece of crap.
Maybe we're having trouble understanding that you don't care about the game because you keep coming to the Star Wars Galaxies forums to post negative things about it. If you don't care about the game and can't be bothered to post factual information then please, stay away and post in the WOW and Guild Wars forums where your posts will, hopefully, be filled with up-to-date facts since that's what you like to play.
Now, if you would like to debate the positives and negatives of WOW vs. SWG you're still being silly because not only are the games entirely different Genre's (SCI-FI vs Fantasy) they're also completely different engines and story lines.
Is SWG Fun? Yes, over 250,000 players seem to think so, so it must be fun to a large number of people. Is WOW Fun? Yes, over a million players seem to think so. Is Guild Wars Fun? I'm sure it is.
Now: Do YOU like SWG? Obviously not. Do those of us questioning your lack of factual, up-to-date, information like SWG? Obviously we do.
Bottom line: If you can't post factual, current, information then please just say you don't like the game and move along.
Oh, by the way, since I play EQ2 and Planetside on occasion I consider my monthly fee to be $7.00 a month or so since I pay $21.95 and have access to all three (not to mention infantry, which is a blast). Have a nice day.

As we seem to agree over the last few posts we have a different opinion in various things, so I will leave the areas where it comes down to that mostly out of the discussion.

What about those lvl80 folks who cannot gain exp from 75-80% of the random spawned monsters without grouping up?
--> Because random spawned monsters are not the recommended way to gain XP for Level 80 fighters. Shooting bunnies wont give much more experience to veteran sharpshooters. Why not visit the Marauder cave on Endor ? Or hunt nightsister rangers on Dathomir. PLENTY of experience to be gained there.
Previous to the CURB, this wasnt the case.
--> That, mon cher, was THE REASON for CU. The boring soloing of 99 % of the game with 90 % comp armor and god-mode buffs.
So now we are down to server hopping in an effort to find a group now, huh?
--> Many people from other servers have recently joined my own server Naritus. THEY tell me that my server is more active. --> Errmm, the force lighting of the Emperor or Dooku in the movie is NOT a particle effect ? IMHO its a pretty impressive display of a particle effect.
After all, we are talking about Star Wars flavor here. Cheesy partical effects like that are seen in Fantasy RPG's, or kiddy games, Not Star Wars.
--> Once again ... if you dont like it, dont use it. Thats what the particle effect slider is for.
Alot of people have complained about the lack of SW music.
--> In any MMORPGs a lot of people complain about a lot of things, often contradicting each other. There is certainly a LOT of SW music - from movies and newly composed - in the game. Much more music than in many other games ... and context sensitive, which is great for atmosphere. If its ENOUGH or THE RIGHT music is more a less a matter of personal taste.
Yea, much better to have a spell like effect which glues the PC to the floor so he cant move.
--> Once again once again :-) ... if you dont like it, dont use it. Thats what the particle effect slider is for. And it wont lag out your computer either if turned down low.
Thats much more Star Wars feeling. Even the Jedi never had this ablity.

Perhaps I didnt make myself as clear as I could have here. You like the game. That is your opinion. You believe that because your opinion of the game is high, then the game is good and others should play it as well. These are facts to you. To me, the game isnt what I paid for, not even remotely close, and therefor others should be wary before buying it. To me, thats my fact. You probably still wont get it, but I tried.
Perhaps I just have higher standards in this reguard. --> Would you please tell me which game has missions and quests that can live up to your higher standards ? Where the quests do not boil down at its lowest level to either kill, deliver, recon, craft, survey, entertain, harvest (the basic mission types of SWG). All quests boil down to that, but they dont always feel like that. Ever played Marrowind? None of its "missions" felt dry or boring to me.
Anymore? Perhaps you have missed it when I posted, several times, that I no longer play SWG, and havent since mid May. Because I dont play though in no way means that I dont, and didnt, care about SW. I really wish they would fix the game. However, at this point and time, I have no confidence in SoE anymore. After lots of broken promises and fixes that werent fixes, I've given up on them as a lemon. Particularly with their customer service as crappy as it was (is?).
Still, if they had done a proper QA on TC when the CURB was there, would have been caught right away and the live server players would never have had to deal with it, would they? --> No one argues that the CU was released too early, not even the devs (see recent interviews). That does not keep the team from bug fixing ever since the patch came out.
I would expect them to continue to fix bugs. You put out a bug riddled product, you damn well better clean it up! The point was, however, that it should have never made it to live before most of these glaring bugs were fixed. This is poor management of the game. There were many aspects of the live version of the CURB that were never even tested, the main being jedi. This shows by the fact that they are still trying to balance class's. This all should have been done before they made the paying public accept it. They are basicly forcing you to beta test their product, while paying them to boot. Like I said before, I dont pay to beta test. Either I'm doing it free, or I'm geting paid to do it.
Ahhh, so now we are down to quoteing the PR department at SoE are we? --> You wanted more than opinions. I gave you facts. As SOE and LA are the only source for "official" facts about SWG I quoted them.
That like the "official" fact that only 50 people disliked the CURB while it was on TC?
Guess we should start throwing bacta shots at our ships too, because thats what SoE has told you to do to fix your ship. Yes, that actually came from a CSR. --> Perhaps that is also why the SOE spokesman mentioned it as a bad example and apologized for it on the forum, where you most likely read about it in the first place, neh ?
There you go assuming things again. I actually heard this, and other stories like it, long before. That doesnt even take into account my own experiences with their CSR's lack of knowledge about SWG, or even SW in general.
Here we go again with limiting play types. There shouldnt be a "recommended" way of lvling. You should be able to lvl how ever you want to, with no penalties. How does it really effect you, or any other player in the game, if I want to make Master Rifleman (or any other combat class) in under 48 hours? I'm not talking about camping, which is a whole different topic that we can debate ad nausium in a different thread if you like. I'm talking just about lvling. Random spawns are a HUGE part of the game. Hell, basicly 50% of the non-themepark missions are based around going out and killing some random spawn lair. I remember how I used to have a blast just wandering around Dant hunting lizards. There were even a couple times when, by just wandering around, I actuallly beat players to their random spawn missions from the terminals. Thats just how I like to play. One of the main reasons my very first toon was a Scout.
Again, your suggesting that we go out and buy add-on software just to find soemthing to do. As for nightsisters on Dath, been there, done that, got my ass handed to me by a nightsister that was only 7lvls higher than mine, even at lvl 80. Three hits and I was waking up in the cloner saying "WTH!". Any of this ringing a bell?
Previous to the CURB, this wasnt the case. --> That, mon cher, was THE REASON for CU. The boring soloing of 99 % of the game with 90 % comp armor and god-mode buffs.
Did you even read the dev papers on the CURB, cause it sure as hell doesnt sound like it. The point of the CURB was to balance the game, not change it completely. Hell, even after the CURB the game isnt balanced. You got Ranged with -root- which completely owns melee, because the melee toon cant move! Thats not balance, thats a 10' tall nerf bat a swinging. It really wouldnt have been so bad, if melee had some kind of resistances to it or it didnt work every damn time. All a ranged toon has to do now is hit -root- right away and its all over. Real balance there.
So now we are down to server hopping in an effort to find a group now, huh? --> Many people from other servers have recently joined my own server Naritus. THEY tell me that my server is more active. So servers ARE very different (I know it from playing on Naritus, Chimaera and Farstar). And if you dont like it on one server, playing on another server may be the thing for you ... like it was for some of the others here on this forum (see other threads here in this section).
So thats the fix huh? Server hopping to find a group. Great fix there. (where is the roll eyes emote when ya need it?)
And to assume that people left strickly because they werent "ubber" is narrow minded of you. You havent spoken to the majority of players who left, so you dont have a clue as to their own personal reason for such. --> Please reread my post. I was stating that certain exploiting Jedi grew tired of their toons now that they no longer are UBER. Thats a VERY small portion of the player base. I was NOT speaking about the "majority of players".
Your right, you didnt. Didnt even edit it to say that. What can I say, sometimes I get ahead of myself as well. Why even bring it up then? Being that it was such a small portion of the player base? Very few people only played the game buffed/comp'ed. Most of the time I was just out enjoying myself, MY way. Were there a couple times when I got buffed/put on comp? Sure. Some parts it was needed, Warrens for example. Most of the time though I was running around in Bone, or Ubeese once I could finally make it. As a matter of fact, I kinda liked doing that seeing as how it also gave me experience in armor crafting. Using my own crafted armor that is.
Well, for one, that wasnt an option while I was still playing the game. --> The particle effect slider is in the game at least since JTL expansion. thats about a year now I think.
Um, the cheesy particle effects werent added untill the CURB. Never, not once, pre-CURB, did I see a white glowing halo circling mine, or any other player character, in the game. Post-CURB, it was there. They didnt finally disable/slider em untill I had already left. Again, this was mid May, three weeks after the CURB came out. I believe the slider that your thinking about was for JTL content. IE space.
Thats besides the point though. When did any of the characters in the movies ever have floating rings around their head/body while stunned or under the effect of a skill? --> Its a COMPUTER GAME, not a movie, lest you have forgotten. In computer games such grafical displays are used to convey information. In a movie this is called "acting".
Funny, these conditions were displayed by other means pre-CURB. Hell, I dont remember anything in the Dev papers that mentioned that we needed some other graphical display for these conditions. And if it was such a great idea, then why, as you say, was it given the option to be removed?
Heck, Yoda didnt even have any when he was using the force to augment his abilitys when he fought Dooku or Palpatine. --> Errmm, the force lighting of the Emperor or Dooku in the movie is NOT a particle effect ? IMHO its a pretty impressive display of a particle effect.
We werent talking about attacks. We were talking about condition partical effects. Nice way to try to deflect the point. Perhaps on someone else it might have worked. Hell, I didnt even go into the whole /mount, /dismount partical effects.
After all, we are talking about Star Wars flavor here. Cheesy partical effects like that are seen in Fantasy RPG's, or kiddy games, Not Star Wars. --> Once again ... if you dont like it, dont use it. Thats what the particle effect slider is for.
Once again, there wasnt an option to turn it off when the CURB came out. It was just there. These effects were not in the game untill the CURB.
Yea, much better to have a spell like effect which glues the PC to the floor so he cant move. --> Once again once again :-) ... if you dont like it, dont use it. Thats what the particle effect slider is for. And it wont lag out your computer either if turned down low.
Please keep up. I was talking about the whole -root- spell. Its not an option of use or not use. It gets used on you by other players! I guess I could ask them not to use it, but that sure as hell doesnt mean they wont. If anything it means they are going to use it more. Again, when was this ability ever displayed in any of the movies. We are talking about Star Wars flavor here, not EQ.
Thats much more Star Wars feeling. Even the Jedi never had this ablity. --> Palpatine .... force .. lightning .... okay ?
Palpatine used -root-? When? I really want to see you try to pull this one out of your butt. I own EP 1,2,4,5,6. You point it out and I'll be happy to check it again, but I'm fairly sure it never was there.
You stated that if a player wants SW feeling, they should join a roleplayer city. It doesnt add to the feeling to me. I never was a huge group player. As for roleplaying, you can do that anywhere, dont have to join someones city to do that. I'm talking about the general flavor of the game. See, there is your opinion showing as fact. You say it is. So thats a "fact" to you. Something you KNOW, at least in your own mind.
As far as other players breaking the immersion factor, this want a problem for me. I mainly stayed away from the cities unless I had/wanted to travel to a different planet and even then I rarely looked at the chat channel. Most of the time I was on the guild tab. So your example doesnt really apply to my experiences. Mine are based around the game, not the people. My issues that I have brought up have been about the game, not the people.
--> As I often stated here ... SWG gives as much to you, as you give SWG. --> Have fun, Erillion
And as I have already stated. Its not the players job to make the game "feel" like something. Thats the games job. What you do can enhance this, but it will not make it. If I wanted something that I had to make feel like Star Wars, I would never have left the PnP and come to SWG. Its not my job to make the "feeling" for the game. Thats the Dev's job.
All quests boil down to that, but they dont always feel like that. Ever played Marrowind? None of its "missions" felt dry or boring to me. --> I ask again : Would you please tell me which MMORP game has missions and quests that can live up to your higher standards ? I am unfamiliar with a game called "Marrowind". Its also not listed here on this site (which includes almost all MMORPGs) - and we are talking about multiplayer games here, not solo games. Because many solo games have better quests than multiplayer games IMHO.
This is poor management of the game. --> I think few people here will disagree with that statement.
That like the "official" fact that only 50 people disliked the CURB while it was on TC?
--> It was never "official" fact and never posted on any forum board by any dev. It was an ill fated attempt at humour by Tiggs at a convention - stupid idea, that really backfired. And I am pretty sure she would rather bite off her tongue than say it again.
--> Perhaps that is also why the SOE spokesman mentioned it as a bad example and apologized for it on the forum, where you most likely read about it in the first place, neh ?
There you go assuming things again.
--> I am not assuming. I was asking you a question. That was the purpose of the question mark.
Here we go again with limiting play types.
--> We agree to disagree.
Again, your suggesting that we go out and buy add-on software just to find soemthing to do.
--> errm, please quote in my last post where I suggest to buy add on software like the expansions ? Endor and Dathomir are in the basic game both.
--> But yes, in my personal opinion the new quests in Wookieee expansion are better than most quests in the core game, thats true. And as the new Total experience box costs as much as I paid for my core game 2 years ago, I dont see a reason why someone should buy the 2 year old box WITHOUT the expansions.
Any of this ringing a bell?
--> Yes, happened in the first days after CU when I was unfamiliar with the CU game. Not ever since. I adjusted. Will perhaps happen in the future when I get sloppy.
Did you even read the dev papers on the CURB, cause it sure as hell doesnt sound like it.
The point of the CURB was to balance the game, not change it completely.
--> A quote by the devs "Eventually we had to make some hard decisions"
--> I dont like some of them, you dont like most of them. So be it.
Hell, even after the CURB the game isnt balanced. You got Ranged with -root- which completely owns melee, because the melee toon cant move! Thats not balance, thats a 10' tall nerf bat a swinging.
--> It was the stated intention of the dev team to strengthen ranged combat. Players call this "nerfing melee". /shrug As I know several melee players that regularily wipe the floor with ranged opponents in PvP and PvE I think that problem is not as severe as you might think.
--> Keep in mind these stated goals of the dev team (important for melee players)
Terrain has a meaningful impact on combat
Movement and position have a meaningful impact on combat
Powerful or unique actions cannot be repeatedly "spammed"
Actions can only be used a limited amount of times during a specific short period
It really wouldnt have been so bad, if melee had some kind of resistances to it or it didnt work every damn time. All a ranged toon has to do now is hit -root- right away and its all over. Real balance there.
--> You forget about the diminishing effect of root attack when done by the same person. It simply wont work as well when spammed ... and thats when the ranged player dies at the hand of the melee player.
--> One exception ... 5 BH ganging up on one Jedi and doing chain rooting. Thats a problem at the moment and devs stated its being worked on.
Very few people only played the game buffed/comp'ed.
--> Hmm, only about 50 % of the players I have seen in 2004 and 2005. On any server ( I know 12, 3 of them better than others). Very few indeed.
Um, the cheesy particle effects werent added untill the CURB.
--> As stated previously, I am not sure when it was added. You might be right that this was not in at JTL (was it the nebula density slider then ?)
Funny, these conditions were displayed by other means pre-CURB. Hell, I dont remember anything in the Dev papers that mentioned that we needed some other graphical display for these conditions.
"Weapons and special moves will now have exciting particle effects so that players can make combat decisions on the fly. You'll be able to tell when another player is about to fire certain weapon or execute a specific move. "
--> Special moves usually result in state effects.
And if it was such a great idea, then why, as you say, was it given the option to be removed?
--> Because, as you so eloquently demand, players need to be given a choice. And the devs are aware that low end rigs have trouble displaying all these effects and toning it down helps to run the game on low end systems.
We werent talking about attacks. We were talking about condition partical effects. Nice way to try to deflect the point.
--> Well, special attacks cause these conditions. To me these two things are linked. Debatable and comes down to a matter of opinion again.
Perhaps on someone else it might have worked. Hell, I didnt even go into the whole /mount, /dismount partical effects.
--> You should not. Effect has been removed.
Once again, there wasnt an option to turn it off when the CURB came out. It was just there.
--> I was able to use that slider already on Test Center.
--> First, the diminishing return of spamming a special will make root useless quickly (see above). Second, in the movies i see plenty of people keeping their head down and not shooting back when greeted by a hail of fire. Leia and Luke right before swinging over Death Star bridge gap, Leia and Han at the Endor bunker etc.
Palpatine used -root-? When? I really want to see you try to pull this one out of your butt. I own EP 1,2,4,5,6. You point it out and I'll be happy to check it again, but I'm fairly sure it never was there.
--> Hmm, Luke seems to be fairly dizzied and confused and knocked down on the deck plating of the second death star after the force lightning. Root = Immobile and next action delayed. Perfectly applies to Luke in that scene. Good to know that he had his level 80 group buddy ready to wipe the mob out from behind :-) Palpi should have positioned himself better so his cone shaped area root would have delayed all group members :-D. Must have been used to pre-CU god-mode, that one :-P
See, there is your opinion showing as fact. You say it is. So thats a "fact" to you. Something you KNOW, at least in your own mind.
--> You might want to reread that. I said "In my experience ..". Not a fact.
So your example doesnt really apply to my experiences.
--> Thats why it was only an example. One the works for many BTW.
Mine are based around the game, not the people. My issues that I have brought up have been about the game, not the people.
--> Well, every MMORPG is about people, not only the game. Only solo games are shaped exclusively by the hard coded game content and the single player using it.
Its not my job to make the "feeling" for the game. Thats the Dev's job.
--> Here we very much disagree. And maybe that is why i still play and enjoy SWG and you dont.
Erillion, if you enjoy SWG so much, then why are you wasting time in the forums flaming people who got shafted by SOE management? I'm tired of it. We come to these forums in hope, ill placed hope, but still hope. What all of us really want, despite our anger, is a good star wars mmo. We are the refugees, those that fell between the cracks. We loved SWG and it is hard to let go as the game still exists in some horribly mangled, mutated form. If it just dropped off the market, I wouldn't have felt as bad. Then it would just be sad, but this is excrutiatingly tragic. Don't bother with trying to discourage the refugees, cause you can't get rid of us. Now go back to your electronic galaxy far, far away and leave us to our opinions. Yes, opinions.
Ya know what, I dont have the energy anymore to do a long C&P quote debate with you.
Lets just agree that we disagree on just about everything, and leave it at that.
You like it, I dont.
Both of our points are valid, as it boils down to our opinion. We can debate our opinions till the cows come home, but I fear we have reached an impasse.

SWG is the best MMO on the market
Why:

No one really does jump to light speed any more, so enjoy if you really really must.
but over time, you will regret it.

You really need to learn to read and quit acting like you have an agenda. Did Sony Online Entertainment steal your goldfish, kill your dog?

So what you're saying is:
"I can't get rid of my robot legs because I didn't read the login screen that specifically warned me to make sure I cloned when hunting on non-noob planets"
"I've been a bounty hunter since launch and hate the fact that Jedi can kill me"
"Jedi suck"
"Jedi suck and ruined the game"
"Now everyone buys jedi" (not true)
The game is MUCH better now than at any previous point in it's existance.

it is Star Wars. and if you like space sim style games, you'll love the JT feature. the quests aren't any more or less complex then any other games quests system, they ALWAYS boil down to delivery or destroy, so that can get a tad repetitive. the crafting system is hands down the most complex of any MMORPG (although the crafting professions have their faults), if you decide to be a crafter, you'll have your work cut out for you.
The community is actually very strong, and of all the games i've played, SWG has some of the friendliest and most helpful players around. dont get me wrong, there are jerks that try to ruin it, but those are found in any game. the good outweighs the bad as far as community goes.
i can only speak for myself and my PA, but we all love the game and try to play whenever possible. i think this rule applies to all MMORPG's, find yerself a good guild/pa with some decent people, and you cant go wrong.

i will never craft again
i'll put it this way, i thought the spice crafting tree for getting to Master Smuggler was brutal....i KNOW i'd have no business trying a REAL crafting profession.
i'm just that guy that will never "get" crafting in any game ever, but i can appreciate the system.

why cant you understand, i dont care about the game anymore. games gone, busted, finished.
You disagree with me on this point. Fine. Fair even. Boils down to a difference in our opinions, and I'm cool with that.
Oh joy!

So he did. Still doesnt change the fact that you shouldnt have to buy add ons to enjoy quality content. Week one huh? Thats interesting seeing as how I was still seeing it by the time that I left SWG in Mid May and the CURB came out in late April. Still, if they had done a proper QA on TC when the CURB was there, would have been caught right away and the live server players would never have had to deal with it, would they? Ahhh, so now we are down to quoteing the PR department at SoE are we? Guess we should start throwing bacta shots at our ships too, because thats what SoE has told you to do to fix your ship. Yes, that actually came from a CSR. Crafters should also hire bodyguards to go check their harvesters too, huh? What about those lvl80 folks who cannot gain exp from 75-80% of the random spawned monsters without grouping up? Previous to the CURB, this wasnt the case. This is directly related to the lvl dmg multiplyer and xp conversion that was put into the CURB. So, if you cannot gain xp, solo, from the majority of the games agressive creatures, sounds fairly unviable to me. Then again, I guess we will have to boil that down to a difference of our opinions, again. I see that as an artificial limit placed on how you can play the game.--> Well, as you NOW have added "IMHO" this is something different. Your original posting ususal states your opinion as facts, which they are not. You are entitled to your opinion of course.
To me, my opinions are facts, just like to you, your opinion is fact. Thats why you suggest to play the game and I dont.
Sorry, going to call bullshit here. It isnt Easy to form a group. Did you even bother going to the mining outpost after the CURB? I saw about 10 people standing around spaming "LFG" for extended periods of time, 30+ min.
Cheesy partical effects like that are seen in Fantasy RPG's, or kiddy games, Not Star Wars. perhaps, but at least the old icons were much easyer to see and tell at a glace what it was. Again, perhaps that was due to the fact that I was used to the old ones. Point being, most of the vets prefered the old Icons, and I fail to remember where the icons were an issue the CURB was suppost to address to begin with. One or two of the composed works from the movies does not equal plenty. I suggest you take a look on Sony's own forums. Alot of people have complained about the lack of SW music. Yea, much better to have a spell like effect which glues the PC to the floor so he cant move. Thats much more Star Wars feeling. Even the Jedi never had this ablity.
Now:
Do YOU like SWG? Obviously not.
Do those of us questioning your lack of factual, up-to-date, information like SWG? Obviously we do.
Bottom line:
If you can't post factual, current, information then please just say you don't like the game and move along.
Oh, by the way, since I play EQ2 and Planetside on occasion I consider my monthly fee to be $7.00 a month or so since I pay $21.95 and have access to all three (not to mention infantry, which is a blast). Have a nice day.

That like the "official" fact that only 50 people disliked the CURB while it was on TC?
There you go assuming things again. I actually heard this, and other stories like it, long before. That doesnt even take into account my own experiences with their CSR's lack of knowledge about SWG, or even SW in general.
Did you even read the dev papers on the CURB, cause it sure as hell doesnt sound like it. The point of the CURB was to balance the game, not change it completely. Hell, even after the CURB the game isnt balanced. You got Ranged with -root- which completely owns melee, because the melee toon cant move! Thats not balance, thats a 10' tall nerf bat a swinging. It really wouldnt have been so bad, if melee had some kind of resistances to it or it didnt work every damn time. All a ranged toon has to do now is hit -root- right away and its all over. Real balance there.
So thats the fix huh? Server hopping to find a group. Great fix there. (where is the roll eyes emote when ya need it?)
IE space.
Funny, these conditions were displayed by other means pre-CURB. Hell, I dont remember anything in the Dev papers that mentioned that we needed some other graphical display for these conditions. And if it was such a great idea, then why, as you say, was it given the option to be removed?
We werent talking about attacks. We were talking about condition partical effects. Nice way to try to deflect the point. Perhaps on someone else it might have worked. Hell, I didnt even go into the whole /mount, /dismount partical effects.
Once again, there wasnt an option to turn it off when the CURB came out. It was just there. These effects were not in the game untill the CURB.
Palpatine used -root-? When? I really want to see you try to pull this one out of your butt. I own EP 1,2,4,5,6. You point it out and I'll be happy to check it again, but I'm fairly sure it never was there.

--> We agree to disagree.
--> I am quite familiar with it http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/combat_upgrade/
Terrain has a meaningful impact on combat Movement and position have a meaningful impact on combatErillion, if you enjoy SWG so much, then why are you wasting time in the forums flaming people who got shafted by SOE management?
