White knights all over the internet I guess. And that is why this game and games like it will continue to get made and prosper.
Well, people have offered explanations as to the why. You calling them "white knights' pretty much means you have no rebuttal. Or maybe you are just a hater?
This is something that has been done before.
Not everyone likes it but it makes sense as f2p games actually have to make money. I assume you actually have a job and want to get paid for doing what you do. What if your company didn't charge for their services but instead relied upon people to throw 5 dollars here and there if they found your services useful?
and if they didn't do it this way then all these companies would be doing is trying to make a "new thing" all the time. Just another new hat.
Quite frankly, I think it's a ridiculous business model but as some people don't want to pay a dime others are willing to take up the slack.

Originally posted by Phry Not sure why people are having a go at Trion, they just run the game, they can't modify the code etc, be a bit like blaming Trion for the problems on the Russian servers etc. If you have a problem with Archeage's cash shop or whatever, then take it up with XLGames. Not sure Trion even has any say in the things that go in the cash shop, let alone how much they cost
I don't get why people want to blame XLGames. We're not in any kind of contract or business relationship with them. Our issues are with Trion. If there's something wrong with what XLGames are doing that's business between them and Trion, not our business.
They coded the game. The code is terrible and full of holes which make it easy to hack. If you don't get that, you should read a bit more.
What he is saying is that it doesn't matter who coded the game, Trion is the company to offer it to Western Customers who have no connection or recourse to XL-Games. Any and all communication is with Trion. How Trion handles things with XLGames behind the scene, is 100% Trion's responsibility and should NEVER impact Trion's customers. The fact that it does just shows that Trion was not up to the task and/or should have recognized a bad arrangement before committing to provide something they were not able to provide regardless of the reasons why.
Is true that 100% Trion's responsility for the western custormes, but if we keep blaming just trion only, then XLgame will just use other company to take there blame for many there bad problem with the game, is like gpotato with allods, people blame gpotato when allods was doing most the stuff in the back end, letting gpotato get all there blame with problem with there game, not saying gpotato was good company was pretty bad now webzen owns it, but now that mail.ru/my.com took over as it been getting worst and worst, they even scared put allods part there mmo next to skyforge on there site.
Don't get me wrong. XL is in no way absolved here. They should absolutely be accountable for their part, but that has to come through Trion. If Trion can't manage XL Games here, then THAT is Trion's fault. If Trion is able to escape by pointing at XL, and XL has no responsibility to fix their shit, then Trion is to blame for signing on the dotted line. Utter incompetence.
Do we prosecute the guy who held up the store, or the guy who drove the get-away-car?

Here's an idea.
If the industry wants to get paid, maybe they should stop advertizing "free" products

I would agree but "there it is".
As I have said, I don't believe in the f2p model.
Then again, the idea is that the games are "free to play". That means that anyone can play them, access them without spending a dime.
Where the payment comes in is (and you know this) a hat there, a skin there, a mount here.
That doesn't invalidate the "free to play" statement. You can play the game and not pay a dime.
Of course some would say "my playing the game should entitle me to everything ...". Then again some would say "My paying a sub should entitle me to play exactly how I want even if every part is to be made soloable ..."
So in the end, everyone's got an opinion.

[mod edit] There's actually nothing wrong with this. As much as I like the game, a skin doesn't change anything, and anyone that buys it must surely know that if you take it off it dissapears, and that it isn't permanent. So if it's cool enough, they just buy it anyways. [mod edit]

The official definition of F2P is a technicality that companies hide behind to justify their deceptive practices. We all know damn well, they are pushing the message as far and hard as they legally can, while knowing full well, they are hiding the costs saying, but you don't need to pay leaving out the fact that it will be a VERY diminished experience bordering on an impossibility.
I really don't understand the problem. It is a skin, it doesn't make an item better. Sure it would be nice if you could remove/add them as often as you like but Trion is a company and they have to make as much money as possible. Companies aren't your friends. capitalism 101
Blame Trion and/or XL for bad servers, service, code or shop items that change the ingame economy but an optional skin is nothing to worry about imho.

You re right, BUT, it s just another shit pile in a already big shit pile. I think that's the point.
If the game is done right, there'd never be a need to distinguish between the 2
This really sounds to me like: "The world should not be so complicated so even stupids like me can understand it. Me hurts."
...or I do not see where you were heading with that train of thought there.
OK, so if I had to rephrase, I would say to those who took up this argument.
Cut the bullshit of "Blame this one!" "No, blame that one!". The game should have been awesome, but it's shit. And both Trion and XLGames made that happen.
Five bucks for a skin that isnt permanent. Meaning you can apply it and you can take it off but if you take it off it disappears.
Don't like it but it's worse in other games.
In SWTOR true black and white dyes are bit under $20 each (2000CC), you can apply them to only one character and you can only overwrite them. And some people buy them and even praise BioWare.

yeah I dont play SWOTOR never bought it and I played maybe 45 minutes when it went F2P. The so called AAA MMOs nickle and diming people for shit like that is hilarious. AA almost has an excuse since its a Koprean game where they do a lot of burst play and are used to temporary shit, but since Trion was supposed to 'westernize' AA I figured they would do away with most of the temporary stuff. While the skin isnt temporary it is something that disappears if you change it or go back tot he original.
Bottomline is the game isnt worth subbing to and it isnt any good as free to play. All you get for your sub is the right to own land (if you can find any) or pay a land hack user in game gold to buy land they stole from legit players by using cheats they bought somewhere.
Those guys are welcome with open arms but legit players who complain about them or some of the shit Trion does get perma banned, which is anothrer nice slap in the face since actual cheats got 24 hrs if they go banned at all.
Its sad because it isnt a horrible game. But then again if it wasnt so horribly broken in some areas the lack of diversity would be the main issue people have with the game. So maybe it isnt all that. But the concept is good. I guess thats why its a good thing Black Desert is coming. Exact same game with better graphics and hopefully a better coding and managment system.

Black Desert looks good, but don't keep your hopes up things may change overnight on them very costly to make that mmo for sure, there going to want there money worth, maybe many things they put in going make people unhappy with for long time.
