I've played both ESO and TSW, and I like both.... I voted for ESO though simply because I enjoyed its PvP more, and its dungeons/combat is more enjoyable.
Storywise, though...I think TSW might edge it out, I always found the RPG aspect of TSW to be very very good.
My friend who plays ESO told me they wrote on their forums and sent out e-mails saying they bought nuclear warheads and every player of ESO that didn't vote for them will get a nuclear bomb in the face. (Confirmed)
(This is as believeable as the lies about FC sending out e-mails bullshit story right?)
And there was so many comments about LotRO winning with WoW not because people vote for LotRO but because they vote against WoW and when it will face EVE it will be crushed. Isn't LotRO crushing EVE right now? ;>

Yeah, if I were a serious PvPer, TSW wouldn't be my go-to game at all. It's got gobs of potential with it's completely open build system, but unfortunately it doesn't have the population for mass-scale PvP anymore. Back when it did, those brawls were serious fun.
Same guy going on a social media campaign for his game to win a popularity contest here at MMORPG.com. Maybe ZOS will put him on the payroll if he isn't already.
Social media campaign? It's just 2 freaking threads in forums about the game.

I've played all the remaining games way too much. Though they are ALL really good games, I find the lore of TSW and LOTRO more compelling than the others. This makes a big difference. Sure ESO is graphically superior to TSW, in ESO I find myself trying to figure out the lore as I play, while in TSW, well everyone knows about zombies and vampires and their kin. As Far as LOTRO and EVE, it's like comparing apples to sea shells. (LOTRO has a VERY devout fanbase, not only because of the obvious widely known and popular lore behind the game)
The game that gets the most votes isn't necessarily the best game, it's the game people like the best, the game that captures your imagination and brings you into the epic.

Well, to be fair, the ESO lore, such as it is, was cobbled together on the fly when they made Arena in the early 90s and it was the first RPG for them (Bethesda previous claim to fame was Wayne Gretsky hockey and other sports sims.) It was not unlike Ultima "lore" which was cobbled together by teenager Richard Garriot in the 80s... it wasn't exactly great fiction.
TSW was crafted as a story drawing on several conspiracy theories + zombie and vampire films and fiction. Then they put an MMO on top of that. And LOTRO we all know came from the books that inspired the whole rpg genre to begin with as well as the explosion of fantasy fiction in the past 50 years or so.
So yeah, ESO lore has to pale in comparison even though in the later games and ESO they're taking great pains to make it coherent and entertaining.
Eve... what lore?

I honestly thought there wouldn't be any contest here. EvE vs LotRO? Easy. EvE. ESO vs TSW? Practically a joke. TSW. It seems I was wrong. (But seriously, how is LotRO beating EvE by such a margin? It was one of the most unpleasant play experiences I've had with a game.)
And you still haven't figured out this is an mmorpg.com membership drive?

Voted LOTRO over EVE because it's a better, more complete game. Voted TSW over ESO, and even though I've never played TSW, ESO sucked so hard, and is graphically one of the ugliest MMO's I've ever seen that TSW became a default vote.
And you still haven't figured out this is an mmorpg.com membership drive?
The TSW thread was made several rounds ago and as you can imagine most replies were from the previous rounds, a TSW page holds up to 10 replies opposed to an ESO 20 replies per page.
I must say after checking out the Eso thread I am quite appalled and amused at the same time.
So far some of the ESO supporters have accused TSW supporters without any proof at all of the following:
Dev's sending emails telling people to vote.
Dev's voting for TSW which only the dev's would know if they were or not... and doesn't seem to be against the rules but according to the ESO forums is? /confused
TSW players mass creating fake accounts (I didn't know they had tin foil hats in ESO?)
The Eso thread appears to be full with attempts to drag "TSW" down and make it look bad for no apparent reason, it is a very sad thing to see! However it also seems that the Eso community isn't full of people that make these baseless assumptions, some appear level headed and awesome.
I'm not going to hold a grudge against the entire Eso community because of a few bad apples, goodluck beating TSW.

People bashing on ESO haven't played it since launch. ESO is really the only game that has kept it's promise in this new batch of Mmo's we had in late 2013-2014.
Everything I've heard about ESO up until now is that it's a mediocre game. If things have improved that ESO's fans will rally for it, good for them! That makes me think better of ESO and wonder if it's worth another look. Contests like this are about seeing what people like enough to show up to vote.
TSW has a dedicated fanbase who want to get the word out to more people about the game. I feel like TSW has a hard time connecting with its audience. The things it does well are not things everyone enjoys. People who like TSW enjoy good story, good characterization, detailed worldbuilding, good community, and also are open to doing things a bit differently. For example, in most MMOs players make steady progress. In contrast, in TSW it's quite possible to get stuck on some TSW quests because you can't figure out the clues! (Of course you could cheat and look up answers.) What other MMOs make real websites for fake companies in the game and expect players to scour those websites to find clues to solve quests in the game?
I'm not aware of any competitors for the type of MMO TSW represents. Of course, that also means voting more difficult. If you're looking for a standard MMO, then you'll note the scarcity of new content for endgame, raids, and PVP. Those things exist but most of the development goes into making new story and systems to go along with the story (like augments/scenarios, AEGIS capacitors/controllers/modules).
TSW is the kind of MMO where you can play for a bit when new content is released, then take a break if you want. Or go to dance parties hosted by community DJs that run an online radio station that is roleplayed in character. (Check out radiofreegaia if you're curious.) Or show up for events like the Christmas one running now, where you solve puzzles with a flute and learn about a conspiracy involving St Nick's corpse (really!), battle the remnants from the Mayan calendar scare, or hijack Krampus's portal to Niflheim to fight Hel herself.

Awesome post I tried TSW and it wasn't really for me but I think they are so different that you really can't compare it to ESO becuase of how different they are. Your first part is what made me want to comment. I have to say that back in Beta I did not even want ESO. I really came close to not even buying it. But I went ahead and pre ordered it for the early access just in case I decided I didn't want it I could at least play a few extra days and still cancel the game without any loss of money. I now have a combined total of around 42 days of play time between 3 characters and have logged on at least a little everyday. So whether you check it out and see all the changes or not, that is my personal experience. Also if you look at more recent reviews of the game you will notice a lot more favorable reviews. The big thing with ESO though is that you really have to go in with a fresh mind and take it for what it is.
After reading the ESO forum thread, I can only shake my head and facepalm about some of the lies and disinformation in that thread.
It's a pity because some of the ESO players seem like mature intelligent people but the blatant BS being spread in that thread (not to mention encouraging people to create multiple accounts to cheat and spam votes) make me think that the ESO community is not a community I would want any part of.
oh well, we all love our games and that is the main thing, but as we are getting to the pointy end of the "competition" (I use the term loosely as it's all in fun and there are no actual prizes or anything to "win") I find it a bit sad that some people seem to be taking things a little too seriously and letting their competitive streak cloud their judgement in regards to how they conduct themselves in the voting & feedback process.
Both TSW and and ESO official threads are out in the open for everyone to see. Go to each and decide for yourself who is playing fair and who is playing low.
Some decent folk seem to exist on ESO's side, but others are playing so low to the point that it is vomit inducing. The amount of lies being said about TSW, or TSW's fanbase is obnoxious.
"This is ***. They have all of their members making duplicate accounts and mass voting. We honestly need to do more. It's bad enough the game paid money for this ad campaign doesn't help it."
While on TSW we have people encouraging to NOT make duplicate accounts.

really people?? Stooping that low to "force" a win? ESO community seems pathetic.
I play neither game, but leaning towards TSW more after visiting ESO's Forums.
