What do you think is the best MMO at the moment?

Hey guys,
I want your opinion. What MMO do you think is currently the best and why is that the case.
I´m pretty new to MMOs but my guess so far is guild wars 2. It lacks end game but it is imo the closest to a next-gen mmo, because it has some nice innovation.
So what are your favourites?

if you are in for the complicated: eve online.
honorable mentions: secret world for story, ESO for trynig and everquest next as newcommer (at least it's engine / landmark looks promising)

Ye depends on the style of game you are looking for to be honest, go with your gut feel and don't make the mistake of buying a style you dont really like deep down - you will quit in a month.
If its a mmorpg with an emphasis on RPG then ESO & LOTR fits the bill (ESO is best MMORPG overall by a long shot in my opinion) If its lobby style mmo with raids and a gear race then WOW or Wildstar is there (Wow wins that one) if its a Sandbox with aggressive PVP then EVE or Archeage perhaps.

I think you misunderstood my post a bit. I want to know which mmo is your favourite. Not which one is the best.
there is no best .. but preferences.
Mine? Marvel Heroes because it has fun combat, a lot of marvel characters that i like, and it can be played as a single player game.

I'm enjoying Wildstar and FF14 atm myself
If i had to choose one it would be Wildstar. Absolutely fantastic MMO for me and having tons of fun
Making it a bit to complicated I think. Any of these questions can have a thousand caveats. Just use whatever your definition of best is, and let fly on which game you think.

World of Warcraft by a huge margin. and this coming from someone who tried WoW 4 years ago and thought it was absolute garbage.
In the interest of full disclosure I have tried all the major mmos over the years except Eve. So I cannot speak to if WoW>Eve

Currently, ESO. I'm really enjoying getting lost in it and exploring; I really enjoy the overall feel of the game. Following that is WoW. It's just so solid and the new expansion has breathed some new life into it. Aside from some of the class changes, it's a great experience.
Eve online is my number #1 for many reasons, some of which..
Its a sub based game, which gives you the option to pay for your sub with in game coin, and with a little hard work, is easily accomplished.
Its Hardcore, it doesnt hold your hand.
They have a super fast release schedule for updates.. every couple months a new update.
There really is a very diverse community, and Ive made some good contacts in the eve universe
It truly is an open world single shard universe. Games claim they are open world but your usually restricted do to gear or other uncool variables..
lots of community events like tournaments and fan fests.
because its spaceships nuff said.
Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!
Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!
Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!

dreanor is not bad but mmos in general are very average!
only games that interest me are the dark souls games,waiting for the best game next year BLOODBORNE!
I think you are underestimating Blizzard's ability to adapt
Best MMO based on what they offer and how well they offer it: TIE with EVE and WoW
Currently Released MMO with greatest potential: ESO
To understand what the best MMO is you need to look at how well it does what it advertises. In this case I think it's a tie between WoW and EVE. The tie comes from both games having two VERY distinct ideologies in terms of an audience. The two of those are also some of the longest running P2P games with consistent quality/polish... NOTE: both WoW and EVE also had fairly poor launches compared to what passes as a "bad launch" nowadays.
In terms of currently released MMO with the highest potential to be better than at least WoW in 10 years would be ESO if they keep going at their current rate. I say this because 1) they started with a better launch and more content then either WoW or EVE and haven't quite completely alienated certain MMO player-bases to do so. 2) The amount of content updates every 1.5 months is not only outstanding, but the scope of them is also grand...
Time will tell on the point of potential, though as EQNext/Star Citizen/Camelot/Shadowbane 2.0 (lol) start getting more traction.
You'll find that some people here either truly hate everything and think MMOs have bee steadily declining (and probably think the same about the world and life in general) or at least believe it's uncool to openly express enjoyment... so filter the replies accordingly.
There are a lot of good MMOs that appeal more or less to a lot of different people depending on many factors... WOW, GW2, ESO, TSW are all beginner friendly MMOs with a variety of different settings, graphics styles and stories. You'll find that any game still getting actively supported has many "next-gen" features (personal loot, non-exclusive mob tagging, single servers, limited ability bars with more meaningful abilities, etc.) All 4 of the ones I mentioned above have some of that - even WOW with the latest update.
Pick one, find a beginner-friendly guild and have fun.
