One MMO to rule them all

Lord.BachusLord.Bachus Member RarePosts: 9,686

After winning the MMO face off finals from LOTRO, it seems this is the game to rule them all. But as a new king, they have a duty to keep improving the game...  So here is my Question, what new features would you love to see after the 1.6, what features does this game require, to become the benevolent king of MMOs

here is my shart list in random order...

- better annimations, espescially the staff casting annimations, and more fluent combat annimations in general

- more skilltrees, weapons specialisations, guilds, divine powers( including daedric) and magic powers like necromancy

- more comtent, a new zone or part of it including dungeons preferably every 4 weeks

- dynamic events, in the new and old zones, if you have done the old zones they become very peacefull, spice them upp with dynamic content, some like in GW2, but also invasions comming from anchors, like we know from rifts

- level scaling, an option to set your character to equall level as the content ( if you outlevel it)

- turn the champion system into an advanced AA system like in EQ2

- add mounted combat, like in LOTRO, with its own skillsets, it will be great in PvP...  But also allows them to create mounted combat PvE comtent

- add a horseracing track, with a competition...

- after adding the justice system, build it further to a full blown faction system, with several NPC factions that players can join...

A small list, must be possible

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

I'm sure everyone has unique personal lists, often borrowed from other MMOs they like or have liked.

The one thing I'm waiting for, which IS coming, is the Imperial City's massive PVE/PVP dungeon right smack in the middle of Cyrodiil.

Everything else is detail and tweaks, the Imp City will be a game changer that either boosts the crap out of ESO interest or fails miserably... I'm betting on the boost since no one has seen anything like this since DAoC's Darkness Falls where it was a hugely popular feature.

Anything else they can do as they please and I'll judge it after the fact: I'm not a game designer (although my son is image) I'm just a consumer... surprise me and let me consume.

    More skill trees

Deep Housing and itemisation along with crafting of furniture etc.

Keep working on PVP zones to improve gamestyles and performance.

Long term gear crafting goals along lines of GW2 legendaries, but cannot be bought through gold.

    rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar

Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D

So, just to get this straight...

We're dubbing an MMO champion from a poll conducted by a website viewed by a small percentage of the MMO-playing population, in which the MMO champ made a concerted effort to skew the polls through propaganda on their own website, as if that's an indication of true popularity of the game, despite the fact that it's been universally panned by a large amount of people?

    lol...okay.

I'm fairly sure Aion has one of these too, unless I'm misreading your post. A group from each faction goes in and battles through the monsters to get to the center, and once there they can win by killing the boss or by the opposing team I believe. I never actually got to a high enough level to play through it.

Fix broken skills, Fix grouping, Fix bugs, bugs, bugs, more testing before launching updates. No more game breaking updates.  Separate pvp from pve nurfing and balance issues.  Offer free weekends to bring back players.  Public auction house.  Player created content.

EDIT: Ah yeah, housing like in UO.

Eh... I rather enjoy ESO's beautiful landscape and wouldn't look forward to having it turned into one huge shanty town with houses haphazardly covering every inch of Tamriel.

I already like the game as it is.

Close but a bit different. In Darkness Falls, use of the massive open dungeon was restricted to whichever of the 3 sides controlled certain PVP objectives outside of the dungeon. The fun was when it flipped sides and the new "owner" would swoop in and go after all the forces of the previous "owner" to clear it for PVE use.

And with stealth, many would just stay hidden until the new guys thought they were safe and started PVEing... then they'd go do some selective stealth ganking :)

There were also some PVE rewards that you could only get there by accumulating tokens.

I love this game to bits, as a huge former hater of it leading up to launch, BUT it can always be improved upon.

There are lots of basic MMO things missing and lots of little tweaks that need to be made but if ZOS keep on as they have been and don't get cold feet and throw in the F2P towel (which I highly doubt they will) then this thing is going to be amazing in 6 months to a years time.  There'll never be a new WoW but it'll be nice to see this game take second place,

When ESO is "the one MMO to rule them all" it speaks volumes as to the pathetic state of the genre. Just my opinion of course. Glad you guys like it, but I will never see this game as what an MMO should be, much less the best of the genre.

No it doesn't. It just means a few more people voted for it and it won a poll.

Here is some news for you: Your favorite mmo game in the future will likely NOT have the majority of players of the genre in it. It may not win any poll ever. That can have NOTHING to do with how good the game is and how it may fulfill your desires. More people voted for it ... that is all. You are not a lesser human for voting for something else. It does not make others voting differently lesser human beings nor the games themselves. Variety is a good thing.

Niche games are popping up all over the place over the next couple years. They will be the favorite game for many but they may never win a best game poll. So be it.

    You stay sassy!

    Thank you Captain Obvious.

Yet the state of the genre is still pathetic, and the fact this game can win any poll on an MMO site speaks volumes to me. Just my opinion...as I already stated. I don't need everyone to like my MMO, I don't need to like anyone else's favorite MMO, I don't look down on any person for liking a certain MMO.....so I am not sure where you got that from my post to the point that you are preaching to me here. Save it for church rev.

I'm pretty sure calling something pathetic is considered as looking down on, and very much implies that everyone that doesn't share your taste has horrible taste.

As for me, I'm very happy with the current MMO state, and even with the upcoming games which likely aren't going to be my thing, but that are something you sandbox people are looking forward to.

The graceful thing to do when a game wins a contest is to congratulate the winner.  It's reasonably clear that a lot of people either liked ESO at release or thought that it improved a lot over the course of the year; that's why it did so well.

Sneering and complaining comes across as simple sour grapes.

The short / medium term future is mapped out - see their December roadmap - and I can't see the poll making any difference ! If mmorpg.com are lucky Zenimax may add a "winner of best mmo as voted for by members of mmorpg.com" note on the console packaging. Entirely possible given the nore they added to the launcher.

    The way ahead however:

    • finish CS
    • add the Justice system (more than one phase of this)
    • launch the console version (they will probably have allowed a patch for any fixes)

And after that - which will be in the latter half of the year - presumably focus on IC. Either as a patch or, who knows, as DLC.

I gave up on the game when you could get lvl 1 to vr12 in 1 week while working a full time job.

By no means am I saying you could max all skills but you could easily get to the max level (at the time I played) in 1 week or less..

I just cannot get into any game that requires so little time investment into my character.

The game was enjoyable for 1-2 months but beyond that it is the same old lack of meaningful PvE content.

    After the already planned changes...

Public quests are pretty much top of my list.  They do not have to be as dynamic as Rift or GW2, I just want a change of pace with spontaneous working together.  There are already small examples of this with anchors and small rifts, but I would like MORE examples.

Aww crap, a gang of bandits took over this road and if you do not pay a toll, they will attack you!

Oh noes, a necromancer bit off more than he can chew and a flesh golem is smashing through the city!

Holy crap, daedra worshippers have opened a portal and minions are pouring out!  To close it you need to fight your way to the portal, enter it, and kill a boss!

That's odd, it looks like this wandering merchant was killed by local wildlife, leaving this wagon full of goods unattended!  Oh snap after looting some goodies we have incoming BEAAAAAAARS!

    Yaaaaaaay.

I'm bumping this thread because it's the best troll, from title to content, I've personally seen all week, on any site, in any forum. I congratulate you on your passive aggressive mastery and seeming lack of sense which causes 49% of those around you to so fervently disagree.
